Why do peple just assume DA is a trilogy?

A long long long time before DAO's release it was supposed to be a trilogy. Later on, in a post-DAO interview, the doctors said there can be an infitite number of games in DA universe.

As the lore gets built up for DA I could easily see them creating a totally different type of Dragon Age game in the franchise. As in some kind of army/turn based game

It's not a trilogy, it's been said many times. It's just the part where Mike goes all Nerd Rage and beats the living **** out of the guy is cut of from the interview... I was there

I've been following DA since the original announcement at E3 2004 and I don't remember them ever saying it was part of a trilogy. All I can recall regarding sequels was that they said they'd like to do more if DA did well enough.

My favorite kind of interview: short and to the point. Not much of note other than the Dog thing which is interesting. I figured it would be a combat summon thing; not a character. This is good to hear. Why do I have a feeling mages will still be better than everyone else despite Laidlaw's comment about party teamwork? Not that it affects my class decisions any.

Though if they do, I might rather EA hired Firaxis to make it.

I don't remember specific posts, interviews etc from that long ago, but I do remember that DA was supposed to be a trilogy, not actively advertised as such but not debunking the trilogy perception either.

Tbh, since it's their own IP, it makes sense to make as many games as they want, as long as there is interest for new games but I do remember the initial perception being a trilogy.

I take it they do good strategy games?

Meh, because ME is made by Bioware and is a trilogy it's just assumed DA is one too. I hate that.

And then people throw a fit because DA2 doesn't continue with the warden and say they've been promised a trilogy when that was never the case. And somehow no one is surprised you get a new hero each game in Fallout or Elder scrolls games.

Civilization series. Though the chances of that happening are effectively nil, since they're owned by a rival publisher, Take Two.

This is pretty much how I feel, said in a way that doesn't ramble (like I do.)

Ah, no wonder I didn't recognize the name. My experience with Civ (4) was being rolled over by tanks when I was still learning to settle villages.

As long as the Dragon age lines the pockets of Bioware/ EA with cold hard cash then there will be more Dragon age games. Really with so many cultures/ regions in Thedas to explore and delve into the storytelling possibilities are endless.  I would love to see a game based on the Qunari culture( well what we know of it).

Agreed.   They would certainly need a company with enough expertise to do a good job of it.

Paradox, more like. DA seems to be more in spirit of Crusader Kings, with its focus on personal relationships and small scale politics.

I find it annoying how interviewers ask people the same questions as another interviewer and expect a different answer. Yea, they'll answer your question with massive spoilers to the game because your THATTT good.

Man, Journalists can be pretty arrogant, not to sound trollish. But I just got a strong urge to Falcon Pawunch Al-Jihani in Mass effect.

You mean you don't do that?  I got one save game where I punched her in ME1 and again in ME2, and if it comes up again, I'll punch her again in ME3. Image IPB

Emily Wong, doesn't seem so bad though as the other reporter we know in the ME universe.

hey someone in the game press played the game enough to know that mages were ridiculously OP. (Which is why I've never gotten past two main quests as one.)

While this IS a new interview, there was hardly anything said here that we haven't heard before.

So, no, not sticky worthy IMO.

I agree.  It really isn't.  In fact, using just  the "what  we know so far" thread, I can conduct a  similar  interview with many members of the Bioware dev team.

Here.  Let me do that now.  (pre-interview note.  I'm too lazy to do the Developer conversational embelleshments, so their answers are going to be flat and to the point.  but I promise no dodging or any  "you'll have to wait and see!" answers)

Yrkoon:  hi everyone, I'm here with the Bioware development team and today we're going to talk about Dragon Age 2.  David Gaider, lets start with you.  A lot of players were intrigued with Morrigan.   Is her Dark Ritual Canon and  is Hawke her God Child?

David Gaider:  No. and No.

Yrkoon:  thank you.  next question.   Tell me about the Beginning of  Hawke's Adventure..

David Gaider: Hawke escapes the destruction of Lothering with "his family" and he eventually makes his way to Kirkwall  in the Free Marches.   And before you ask, let me tell you about Kirkwall.   Kirkwall is located on the southern edge of the Vimmark Mountains, north of Ferelden.  It is larger than Denerim and it's ruled by a Viscount

Yrkoon:  ooh.  that was short but good!

David Gaider:   I'm not finished.   Kirkwall was once the center of slave trade in the Tevinter Imperium. There is an old quarry where slaves used to work. The area in and around that basin is called Low Town, and is populated by the poor. The area above the basin is called High Town and is home to the more wealthy.

Yrkoon:    Thank you.   That's....

David Gaider: Kirkwall has one of the largest Mage circles in Eastern Thedas, larger than the one in Ferelden. It is also "the center of Templar power in Eastern Thedas," and is host to a Templar army.

Yrkoon:    Awesome.  Tell us more about Hawke now.

David Gaider:  Male Hawke's default first name is "Garrett".  Female Hawke's default first name is Marian.
Mary Kirby:  Hawke can be male or female
Chris Priestly:  Hawke is Human.

Yrkoon:  Is Hawke related to    Andraste, Flemeth, or Maric?

David Gaider:  No, No, and No.

Yrkoon: Lets talk about Companion's now.

David Gaider:  There will be companions. Some will be Romanceable.

Yrkoon:  Do  companions have names?

Sheryl Chee  There's Isabella.   Though, "Isabela" is not her birth name. Her true name (and surname) are unknown.
David Gaider: She is Rivaini
Sheryl Chee:    Also, she's worked with an Antivan pirate group call the Felicisima Armada, but does not officially belong to it.

David Gaider:  There's also Fenris.  Fenris is a former slave to a Tevinter magister. He was altered by that magister, who burned Lyrium into his flesh. One effect of this was that his memory was erased.  Fenris is not a Mage.  Fenris will occasionally use words from the language of Tevinter.  Fenris has an aversion to physical contact.

Yrkoon:  Thank you everyone.   we'll invite you all back for part 2 later.

Thought that was a pretty good picture of Mr. Laidlaw. Where are the professional photographers when I need my pic done?

As for the info, meh. But the game is just a little over a month from release and I'm content at this point to just wait and see.

I'm cool with DA not being a trilogy. They have more freedom to do what they want versus the obstacles the ME series go through.

If anything I'd like to see a new protagonist in DA3 with a story to call "her" own.

I hope there will be a hell of a lot more than 3 DA games...

Agreed. Somehow I can see the fans gathering their pitchforks if that won't be the case.. Makes you wonder if they have contingency plans in place just in case the series falls flat before the fourth game is decided upon.. An emergency moat and metal gate are probably already outlined in the company budget just in case..

Good interview though.

glad im not the only one who thinks like that!
