And let's not for THIS IS THE NEW **** and all its fallout.
I would definitely be okay with even something like that, right now. Because I still feel like I don't know anything about the characters or the Free Marches or anything other than if I press a button, something awesome is apparently going to happen.
come on, bw, where's the marketting? We're barely more than a month out, here!

Anyway I agree, this is making me question my pre-order, is the team not confident enough to show the crap out of their awesome product, or are they hoping the hype from the last game sells the product for them?

Well, it's not the development team that gets to decide what's shown. That's the marketing department, the same people responsible for all those awful catchphrases and continually misrepresenting their games. The developers might be very proud of their work, but it doesn't mean they have much influence over what we get to see.

I've had most of DAO spoiled for me; things like the 3 outcomes for the Dalish quest and the secret companion. Granted, this can be attributed to the extremely long dev cycle and the delay, but still. I'm not very good at restraining myself, spoiler-wise, so I'm a bit grateful for the current pace of the info drip.
My anticipation for DA2 is all the way up there, but I want to see how much of a difference to the way I recieve the new story a (relative) lack of spoilers will have.

Yep. The last thing I saw that got me excired for DA2 at all was the Dev Diary for the Story. That got me right out of my seat. After that ... nothing. My energy is flagging hard

On a serious note: They marketing for DA2 is lacking in my opinion as well. Even if they start now it's not going to be as good as a marketing campaign that is less concentrated and over longer period of time.

It's kind of funny actually. I mean I know it can't be true, but it's almost like EA wants the DA franchise to fail. They have had the worst marketing I've ever seen... consistently. As they say, "Once is an Accident, twice is a Coincidence, and three times is a Pattern." I think we're well passed three times. LOL
I didn't particularly condone the marketing from DAO. And it did well. The numbers will tell.
For the record, I don't really like how the marketing team has handled things.

True, I know marketing and dev teams are separate, but I'm still frustrated w/ the marketing. Really this is like from 1984, they're the Department of Marketing, making them anti-marketing. lol. They can show things and announce companions without ruining the story, easily.dbankier wrote...

I dunno, while I agree with the OP about the marketing, I'm kinda glad that they're keeping mostly mum about the plot and characters.

This is so weird to me! I mean, I'm not doubting you, but I read/watched almost everything official except the leaked codex pages in the week before release, and I didn't even know the Wardens got wiped out at Ostagar when I got the game in hand.

But one has to wonder whether Origins did well because of the marketing or in spite of it?
Certainly, I may have DA2 preordered, but it sure as hell isn't because the marketing has sold me on it. Its because Origins was a great game.

As a skinflint I can't help but feel that all the advertising for origins must have been hideously expensive, but I was rather partial to the medieval babes thing they did down in the smoke.

A glimse of that plan would be nice though, i support BW and almost every decision they make, but this is.. beyond weird, i would think it is marketing 1-0-1 to get your product out to as many consumers as possibleKhayness wrote...

Absolutely, this.
To be honest, what made me go out and preorder DA:O was the character trailers. I know a lot of other people feel the same. I think BW is losing some sales if they NEVER put some of those out ...
Hopefully I'm just doomsaying and they're working on it as we speak

I didn't like SOME of the marketing for ME2.
I don't like the marketing for DA2.
..but those two first games were my two biggest played games through last year..and indeed even up to now and I'm still massively pumped for DA2.
Maybe after the stink kicked up by the horrible, horrible, terribly horrible heavy rock trailers of DA:O the marketing crew got together and went..'****, now what do we do? I'm all out of ideas.'
