Maybe I am naive here, but because of what i have seen, and know what Bioware is capable of (read: great story DA:O), i want to experience the game full on. Anything else would be spoiling...
So the marketing department can keep the demo:whistle:
What I would like to see is this: I hope Bioware will give us gradually information, like a dev diary, or a couple teaser movies... To get me even more excited....
I just have faith, and dont think it's gonna be a bad game, because of the "lack of marketing"...
Anyone else feel this way?

Basically this ^ ^ sorry, I'm a big gamer but I didn't really know anything/care about DAO when it came out, I only got it because it was a Christmas present (just look at my 'joined' date, its the day after Christmas '09) but it turned out I loved DAO, and I'm only getting DA2 because of that.bullion-rouge wrote...
Sorry, Bioware.
I like your writers, your developers, your artists, your techies and probably that HR lady who made the Minsc coffee blend. I think you guys usually make great games together.
I think your marketing/PR team however does a lot to ruin that. If I judged Bioware by their marketing alone, I'd think you were all kind of clueless and patronizing. I am convinced most of your marketing folk don't even game, and have formed their plans based on television or movies.
I bought DA1 because my friends enjoyed it. Not because of marketing.
I am going to buy DA2 because I liked DA1. Not because of marketing.
If marketing is succeeding in doing anything atm, it is in antagonizing your fans.
/Sorry for being blunt.
Admittedly I'm getting sick of the sodding phrase "push a buttom and something awesome will happen" month after month, and while the general mood on the DA2 forums is mostly ranging from nerd rage to meh after yesterday, I hope they don't add too many spoilers to whatever advertising they might do.
I'm guessing the BioWare/EA marketing team have something up their sleeves for DA2 when March 8/11th comes closer to ramp up the hype machine a bit. But still its better then what they've done for ME3, one amazing trailer at VGA and then nothing, it hasn't even got its own forums like DA2 has.
EDIT: @JerHopp, yep same here

Man, does every single thread anybody start have to turn into WELL DA:O WAS BETTER THAN DA2 AND DA2 IS A TRAVESTY. I'm excited for DA2, go away. I just want to complain about how I still haven't heard Lady Hawke's voice, Fenris's accent, and there's a whole entire companion who is still anonymous
Also, I really don't consider the Broodmother video spoilers. There was enough to a vague idea of what was going on there, but I remember the forums actually debating what the Broodmother was, with no one being sure.
It's not a spoiler, to me, unless it SPOILS something, ruins it. The broodmother trailer ruined nothing.
My thoughts exactly. If the Broodmother video was a spoiler, then every character video they released for Origins were massive spoilers.
I mean all you see in the Broodmother vid is the fact that you face a ten tittied terror...that hardly spoils anything. Just prepares you to possibly prevent projectile vomiting :|
But yea, marketing for this game isn't grand, but I'm still excited for it. Yessiree

My complaint regarding the broodmother trailer was that it revealed a creature that could have been a massive shock. The trailer took away the initial surprise and revulsion from seeing it for the first time in-game.

I can understand that, but I still don't think the broodmother video is really much of a spoiler.
As I still didn't have anything to play games on when Origins came out, I only knew it looked awesome from the TV commercials. I wish I had seen the broodmother vid...I cried when I saw that thing.
/Exaggeration.

Then again anytime BioWare aims to expand their fanbase many ridicule them for accomodating the "lowest common denominator" or "console crowd" and take it as a direct insult to their intelligence or loyalty.

I think in general Bio-Ea doesn't want any real info on their game getting out. If you want proof of this go read the 170+ page thread started yesterday. Where desperate and amazingly dedicated fans tried to poke and pry any information they could about the state of DA2 and bioware and were only met with derision and snide comments from the dev's before having the thread closed.
Sums it up perfectly. Most just want to know what were going to be spending our hard earned money on and all weve gotten is 2 very vague cinematics a 30 second clip of combat and some character descriptions. Those who are still undecided are more then likely going to be put off until launch day when by then it may be too late and bioware may lose some sales over it.

The fact that the game is called 'Dragon Age' is a huge spoiler, because it could have been a really cool shock when you saw a Dragon, but the title completely spoils the fact that there are dragons.
Except dragons are generic fantasy creatures which everybody knows about anyway. You can almost take it for granted that Dragons will make an appearance in a western fantasy rpg. The Broodmother was an entirely new and a concept unique to DA, it had far more potential to create a shock.

Is this sarcasm?
Because a spoiler would mean giving away plot details...and dragons are almost in no way related to the plot.

My impression is that to EA, DA2 is not an AAA title but a niche game with a short development cycle that is not worth an aggressive marketing campaign. It's supposed to not cost too much and have okay sales. I hope I am wrong and that EA hasn't given up on the DA franchise, but that's how it feels right now.
This.
To be fair though, DA:O was even advertised on UK TV over a month before launch, and got me perosnally well pumped up. But it is plainly obvious to see for anyone with any sense, that the severe lack of information does not bode well.
Hell, even before xmas, the 'screenshots' that were being thrown around looks terrible. And for all those people saying they were old, well how olod exactly? Is it normal for a huge company to show you 12 month old+ screenshots of a game out ina matter of a few months? The answer is no it's not.
Be worried, because I think in all honesty (but it is just my opinion), is that EA got their hands on Bioware, it was EA who wanted DA on the consoles (hence the delays and subsequnt numerous issues), and personally, i think EA want it to be a console game, as that is their main target platform and audience. Lets be honest, the devs are tied, the marketing are tied, Bioware is no longer the company we used to love, Bioware is now EA, and they do what EA tell them to do.
This is the first Bioware game I have not pre-ordered, because simply, if I wanted to play a game like FF, or all cartoony (as it looks to me) and with no real RPG length (forget the consoles, on the pc on a hard difficulty, reading everything, its a 100+ hour game), I would buy a game like that. Personally I don't, and unless a LOT of pple say DA2 is incredible, I'll stick with Origins, which hopefully, won't be Biowares last great RPG.
As for those moaning about lies and no dev comments etc etc, hell, you should be used to it by now....and for any bioware employee who may read this, this is not a direct dig at yourselves, as I still think your one of the greatest, but I understand how business works, and understand your not your own boss anymore, you have big daddy to appease.

Since when are the folks in this thread obliged to help Bioware increase their fanbase or bring in new players? You make it sound like it's their responsibility first and foremost and that they can't just be eager DA2 fans.
If anything, 'sating their (our) desires to see more of the game' is not a bad thing. New game info will very likely encourage further 'word of mouth' from the established fanbase about the game and this helps promote the game to new players etc.

Blights only happen when Darkspawn infuse and corrupt the soul of an Old God into the form of a Dragon(Archdemon) and they're in no way related to the plot? That's an interesting take on it.

Hence why I said "almost". Though can you really count that? It's a bit different than just being a normal dragon..and as I do recall, it's not actually classified as one. But I could be wrong.

This, plus Bioware is releasing 3 games this year, and EA has chosen not to spend a lot of money on advertising.
Also, you guys don't like the marketing anyways, so why should they waste time and money on it?
