when will some of the more hardcore fans get over the fact that most likely you won't play as the warden ever again?

Pfft, DG is trollin' again.

David's commentary is half of what keeps me reading these forums. That and I still have fangirl tears to offer in the event of Fenris not being a LI, etcetcetc. And we must keep him supplied.

I don't want my Warden back. She's retired and moved to Antiva.

Heh.

My apologies to In Exile.  I didn't have cereal at all this morning, which is probably the problem. Ironically, I don't care either way about the Warden as the player character in DA2.  ^-^

And troll porn.

Ew.

aside from off-hand references to things my warden(s) did, the only real "appearance" i want my warden(s) to make is i want to see the archdemon explosion thingey from wherever Hawke is when it happens, no matter the distance.

I also apologize. I really do appreciate how you feel. There are very few games out there that I do like. Aside from maybe Alpha Protocol which isn't an RPG at all, Mass Effect 1 & 2 are really the only games that I feel that got what I want out of a game just right. So I can appreciate what it means to feel like a company has shifted gears on you.

At the very most, shouldn't this threads name be changed to something less insulting?

I am glad we get a new character. For me the warden has played her/his part.

People are always going to complain about something. But if the developers never take a chance on something new, the fans would be all over the forum complaining on the lack of originality. Some of the new things will probably be a large improvement, some may fail completely. No pain no gain I say.

that is likey, since another Origins type game would take a long time to produce and very expensive.

Ugh.

That says it all. Well, at least now it's clear which direction Bioware's headed.

The warden is gone, i dont think we'll ever play as the warden again in DA sequel. Simply because i think if Bioware made another sequel they will want to attract new player to the series like what they did with DA2. Best we can hope for is cameo if your warden's alive that is.

Agreed on the "no pain no gain" part, but on the other hand, I can understand that fans of the original DA (which includes me) might "fear" what "change" could mean for the game series. A lot of fans became fans for a (number of) reason(s). If certain features/traits are changed or removed completely, many fans will complain, and I think they have good reason to, since the game they loved was, in their eyes, ruined.

For example, i'm a musician (amateur, but still). I make a certain kind of music, for a certain type of crowd, but also because I enjoy the type of music I make and listen to myself for 95% of the time.
I'm not about to suddenly make, say, pop music because it will sell better to the "mainstream".
I will, however, search for new and satisfying variations on the original sound we had. i will try to improve on the existing sound and sharpen my skills on my given instrument.
But either continue to do the same thing over and over again ( plain milking), or stray too far from what a loyal fanbase has come to expect and said fanbase will become disappointed and possibly decide that we simply aren't worth the time anymore and start looking elsewhere for the sound we used to have.
If I wanted to make a different genre, or simply make lots of money from the "mainstream" audience, I'd simply join/found another band in that particulair genre.

What i'm saying, in short, is that change shouldn't go too far, as to screw everything (or at least a lot) the game series was before, and suddenly turn an RPG in, say, an action-adventure or hack 'n slash, but neither should game #3 be exactly the same as 1.
I simply hope that Bioware tries the former with DA2, rather then just wanting to appeal to a more "mainstream" audience in the hopes of making more money.

(I hope i'm getting across what i'm trying to say, seeing as English isn't my native language)

Yeah you were quite understandable:) The key is to make it similiar enough to the original to appeal to the existing fans. But yet different enough to be exicting and give a feel of a new game. Same goes for music really. But I do see a lot of DA origins in DA2, so I still have high hopes for the game.

I'm fine with the Warden taking a break and having a new PC in DA2. But that ends as soon as Morrigan returns.

What about my dead Warden? Or my Warden that doesn't care about Morrigan? Or my Warden that stabbed Morrigan? Or my Warden that let Morrigan go and said he wouldn't chase her? How about my Warden in Antiva with Zevran or the one in Denerim with Leliana?

I don't think it matters what the Warden did as long as the story doesn't center on the Warden. Simply b/c a Warden is dead/not dead/etc. doesn't mean he has no effect upon Morrigan's fate (if they do continue that story). In my opinion the Warden will be back as PC (if he's alive and if Morrigan's story is continued); however, I think Morrigan's "ultimate" fate may have been decided when you chose to do the DR or not to do the DR.

Also remember that just b/c the Warden's main purpose is complete does not mean he/she can't participate in another character's story.

 About defending bioware,

Sure i feel a sense of loyalty to bioware,  Ive played every game since Kotor.I know it really is of no consequence to any of the developers what I feel as long as I buy the game.

however, what i do hate is having to sift through 30 -40 pages of nothing but .....

IF YOU DONT CHANGE THE WHOLE STORY AND REDO EVERYTHING JUST THE WAY I LIKE IT YOURE NOT GETTING MY 60+TAX

I just want to see spoilers,

Im a college student who rarely gets to play video games anyway its a little joy of mine to get online and get involved in the hype and have fun with the game when i have time. Instead I have to sift through 30 posts of garbage until I find something worth reading. For some reason people are compelled to protest a game when they know next to nothing about it ( like six months ago). to think that you can expect every game you ever play to be just the way you like it, well......its a little unrealistic, and frankly, if you hate it so bad why post. if your not sold just rent the game when it comes out.

thats what I cant stand.

About defending bioware, I agree that it is no longer so much about defending the company as it is about defending my own preferences.

As a console gamer who preferred da2 to da:o (though I like both) I have talked down to so much with fully unfair comments and have in no certain terms been told that I more and less destroy gaming, so I am not longer pre-ordering the most expensive version of da:i, I can because I want to show loyalty to bioware, but in pure spite of those comments.

It is not healthy, but the best way I can think of, throwing their insults back in their face without calling them names too, is to support bioware's direction.

I don't mind not playing the Warden again, but I resent not having the option to play another character like the Warden.

Seriously, we get a Cousland/Amell clone in the form of Hawke (the noble who falls on hard times but gets all their wealth and privilege back combined with the human mage who is not as interesting, oppressed, or powerful as the elven counterpart), but we don't get to play elves or dwarves or diverse origins again? Lame!

Aww man... that... that really felt like a kick to the quad. It makes me sad to hear that.

And as for ever playing a Warden again, it will happen, don't you worry. This is a sequel driven industry after all.
At one point or another, a Blight will eventually happen again. And to be honest, I really wouldn't want to play a Warden in anything but a Blight.
Though it would be nice, next time, to actually get to know the Wardens. To talk to the veterans, to get to know their habbits/traditions/tactics or even their favorite way to kill a darkspawn.
This could happen a few months before the Blight to give you time to advance in rank, to see how the order of the Gray Wardens is structured. Maybe even giving the player a small group of Wardens to command, or an outpost to guard and oversee. This time giving you the option to use the Right of Conscription, which makes it easier to get new recruits, but kind of puts you on bad terms with everyone.

Hardcore fan. Perfectly with Awakening being the end of the Warden's story and the last time we get to play as them. I felt the epilogue capped everything off nicely.

I expect we'll hear about the Warden-Commander (provided they survived to attain that promotion) in DA3 and it'll bring a smile to my face. That's all I need.

Honestly, I just want Bioware to say Cassandra was drunk, and that the Warden and Hawke never disappeared and remained Commander and Viscount respectively.
