go play the Sims man, or Minecraft, you can do anything in that game, yeah you can convince Bioware to put this in the game and make it meaningful then more power to ya. But honesty i can't see this in the game, why would they take time to put something like that in the game when they already don't do the important things like modding weapons and armor, i can see you going to a store and having something to eat the same as he goes to a bar and have a drink. But actually making the meal yourself good luck with that.

It really does bother me that in this day and age, people who like to cook are being treated with such ignorance and lack of concern by the developers.

The worst part is that Gardner is allowed to use the stove because, of course, that appeals to the fanboys, but people who want to pursue a non-fanservicey cooking career with their Sheps are left ignored.

...it sickens me.

I'm glad you agree, isnudo - we have been oppressed for long enough by the shackles of unfanservicy... enough is enough, I say.

No longer will we head to the mess hall unfed.

No longer will we march to the ends of the galaxy with an empty stomach.

We are fans. We are strong. And boy, are we hungry.

I feel that a cooking minigame would feel out of place in ME. It works in Harvest Moon games, but I don't think it would work here. But anyway ummm... this was somewhat random.

I'll take that as a compliment.

I feel that a cooking minigame would feel out of place in ME.

...but you were alright with a retro-shooter throwback with blasting pyjacks?

...and you were alright with betting on which varren would kill the other in a battle to the death?

All I ask is the ability to make a delightful meal for my squadmates - It could even provide health bonuses. Perhaps I could make the Mass Effect equivalent of an energy bar?

I aprove. Many games miss a final chapter to the game, where everything is explained and put to rest, Dragon Age: Orgins had this kind of thing at the end, where you could talk to every companion and get to know what they want to do with their lives next.

I think it would be a perfect ending to participate in a victory party where Shepard serves his special dish, also I would love to see it as a skill you can invest points in, depending on how good/bad your cooking skill is the celebration party would be a sucess or a disaster.

Uhh...yeah, actually. Einstein was talking about humanity not an Epic Sci Fi Action RPG.

Yes.

In fact, I know just the way it could be integrated into the story so people can't complain about all of these illusive "plot holes".
Shepard wishes to cook for all his comrades, so he decides to head back to Earth to gather the finest ingredients for his "Shepard pie". However, he arrives to see the Reapers demolishing the planet. He flies into rage and decides to cook the banquet of a life time for the Reapers.
The entire game revolves around flying about different worlds obtaining food items to prepare for your epic showdown. (So no one can complain about all them "loyalty missions" - the game DOES contribute to the plot!)
This results in the Reapers' imminent demise because more than half of them die due to some sort of health related issue, while the rest are too obese to destroy all sentient life in the galaxy, and Shepard dies tragically from exhaustion; the bittersweet ending everyone wants.

It also allows for a spin-off into "M.E.Fit", the Kinect equivalent of Wii Fit made by Bioware, featuring the Reapers as your avatar. Choose between Harbringer, Sovereign and Human-Fetus Reaper as your character of choice as you attempt to slim them down in just twelve weeks. This will also allow the incorporation of the "multiplayer" aspect everyone seems to want - compete against your friends to see who can successfully lose the most weight!

Game of the Year? I think so.

People, people, if I didn't know any better, you weren't taking this thread seriously. First and foremost, let me ask you a question: Is a man(or fem) not entitled to the taste of his bake?

'No!' says the Citadel Council, 'It belongs to the keepers.'
'No!' says the Illusive man of Cerberus, 'It belongs to Humanity.'
'No!' say the Reapers in dark space, 'It's assuming direct control.'

I rejected those answers; instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose...Mass Effect, a game where the player would not fear the lack of baked goods, where the chef would not be bound by petty health inspectors, where the great would not be constrained by the small!

And with the taste of your cuisines, Mass Effect can become your game as well.

There have been some great ideas in this thread... the use of RPG elements as a form of progression as you go on - RPGs themselves are known best for encouraging growth and development. It wouldn't quite fit in the leveling system currently used, and is probably best left as is. Something outside of that, however, wouldn't be a bad idea. On the other hand, perhaps we're complicating things to much, and need to simplify to the baking itself.

Questions for the forumites:

How would you like to see the baking process work in ME3?
What ingridients should be included? What could really spice things up?
Most Importantly, what would you like the rewards to be? And no, the priiiize doesn't count.

Thank you for your time. :P

The fight for the love thread is asking for inclusivity for a feature of ME that already exists.

The satire fails because it's asking for an entirely new feature. It might have worked if you were trying to make fun of another suggested new feature. But here not so much.

Wow, Dead Space 2 can really make you forget about a lot of things.
Ahem. Before disappearing into the Sprawl I was just about to mention Arx Fatalis which had cooking implemented on a pretty basic level, but it was still fun. And it could be improved and become even more fun.
Also there is a huge mod for Morrowind which introduces cooking. I didn't got to it, but it is complex and I can remember some positive reviews of the cooking part, I believe.
The only problem is in both mentioned games the protagonist is less obviously a center of the universe than in ME2 (and it will become even more so in ME3), so it would feel too much... artificial to be able to just stop and do whatever one desires. Like, you know, being able to do that N7 missions while people are abducted on a scale of colony at a time. And if cooking would be available at the end of the game only... I don't know, I'd expect something more rewarding.

If only Shepard could eat pies and get fat.

Heh. Reminds me of Fable...

Yup yup yup!

I managed to have the most burly butch scarred chick ever, forever afraid of eating anything other than tofu, carrots and apples. As annoying as it sometimes was, it persisted as an engaging diversion.

I only have PC and there is no Fable 2 version for my platform... :( I always wondered how would a girl look like as protagonist... :(
And in first Fable I never had a problem with apple supply - I could easily buy lots of them from virtually any merchant. Had it changed in second game? I mean, it was easy to diet him. Also, warriors should get burly and scarred eventually.

Oh no... my nightmare has come true - Fight for the stove is becoming fight for the love: You think the thread is gonna dissapear, but every couple days ago, BAM! someone posts again and the conversation begins anew.

Having said that, good points. It ultimately depends on the pacing of ME3 itself. If it's going to have a focus too strongly on the main quest, it may not necessarily work that well. It's difficult to say without having seen the game in its current state.

I just wish Bioware would acknowledge us makers and eaters of food by including edible opportunities in the next game.

So upset was I when on the Citadel Shepard speaks to a chef who mentions ramen and I tried so hard to sit down to eat a bowl, only to discover that it was an impossibility.

I sadly walk away, to a room where there resides a Tupari machine. I interact with the machine countless limes, yet it only teases me without producing a tasty beverage.

Further exploration of the Citadel led me to a room, a room I can only look into but not enter, a room where two Turians sit and appear to be eating? What ARE those Turians up to? Is that a cafateria? Is there a salad bar? Why can't I get in there!?

Such a tease, Bioware!

Oh sure, first it's just Shepard cooking some Asari calamari but then you cooking enthusiasts would start demanding that everyone be able to cook, anywhere, even holding cooking contests between themselves instead of, you know, saving the galaxy from the coming Reaper apocalypse.

Logically, it would then all end in cannibalism and ruined figures, so weakening the galaxy that when the Reapers show up, they'll harvest us all faster than your Shepard can prepare instant noodles.

Mass Effect is not and should not be a cooking sim, period.

What can I say, it's the DominusVita Brand - with the exception of the Mass Warp song. Let us never speak of it again.

Legbiter, I never wanted ME to be a cooking sim. But take a look over the history of the franchise, we've certainly had quite a selection of meta-games over the last 3+ years of Mass Effect. Would designing a meal really be that far fetched?

That was an amazing and entirely originial speech. You sir have won me to your cause. We will not stand by while the masses oppress us by not giving us this content! We will not be discriminated against and taunted by the developers placing food stores on the Citadel you can't use! They owe us this content, or else they are all chefophobes continuning centuries of oppresion upon the baking class!

Gentlemen look at the food store right outside the C-Sec station! The turian there acts in a snobbish manner cleary sterotyping against those who do cook and take pride in cooking! Such stereotypes are unacceptable in the 21st century Bioware! You see, since 20 became 21 which is an odd number that means everything must change!  I demand a full 25% of ME3's content be cooking related.

Roaring, sizzling Varen skewers may look tasty, especially when coupled with an appropiate spice rack applied just right, but such thoughts are just an example of the Sin of Gluttony.

Treating the crew to a good meal once in a while is ok, but open the floodgates of haute cuisine, and faster than you can gobble down pâté en terrine, you'll see flab extruding at odd angles through the spandex.  Posted Image
