First off that double cross is just poor, like watching an episode of 24 where eveyone turns against him.

Second, I mitigate everyone else in the room except for Ser Cauthrien and she slaughters us.  Two swings to take down the main tank. I even cast Misdirection hex on here and she still slaughters all 4 of us.

I've done it like a dozen times, it's all 4 of us on her and she still wins. She's tougher than Gankang (or whatever the hell his name is).

WTF!!!!!

It's possible, but it's not necessary.

I gave up on doing it on the hardest difficulty, farthest I managed to get was taking her and few goonies down but I got swarmed, 5+ tries and I just surrendered.

just pull back and only the guys closest to the door will follow with her...congrats you cheesed the encounter. granted she does 120dmg per hit even on normal vs shield tank w/ massive armor so yeah she's hard

I remember the first time I attemped it my party died in about 5 seconds on normal difficulty. My tank went down in a few swings and the rest of my party was owned by everything else in the room. My next attempt did not fare much better so I said to hell with it and died just to continue.

I plan on winning the next time but was so close to the end of the game this last time that I wanted to finish it off and not spend 30 minutes working out a strategy to win, something quite hard, it looked like, with only one mage and not a lot of poultices.

Somenoe should have made her a Grey Warden - she would solo the Archdemon.

Run your tank in, taunt, force field him, win.

Worked for me.

Easiest way to do the fight..Move all your chars out of the room..in a hurry..anything that follows..kill it, and then onces Cauthrien is dead and the other guys are as well..just AOE from there..the archers won't move.

Did it on hard with only 3 characters in my party! (Alistair and Morrigan, someone had temporarily left my party because of an event on the way there)

As soon as the fight starts, run back and into a side room to avoid the archers; they'll continue guarding the door, so you only have to fight her and a couple of others. Then I kited whoever her target was around the room to avoid her hits as much as possible while the other characters hit her with everything they had. I needed plenty of poltices and it was a very tough fight, but I got her in the end after a couple of tries.

i love the dungeon escape, so i always give myself up. i also wasn't aware that you could fight her before the landsmeet, i talked her into letting me take loghain down. but i suppose if you want her sword those two options won't work :P

LOL, you get the sword later at the landsmeet so why bother killing her and missing out on a good area with loot and xp to be had (saving you from the castle)

Lead her away is the simplest option, it seems like she and a few guards will be the only ones to follow you.

then, force field her, kill off her goons, and slowly chip away at her health.

bring lots of pots, and try to keep all your characters at 100% health at any moment.

cone of cold and paralysis is your friend, so is death hex.

also, remember that its very possible to force field the tank.

I had Alistair, me (rogue, ranged), Wynne and Morrigan.

Alistair Tanked, both mages were healing/cone of cold/etc, i shot at her from afar, throwing the occassional firebomb.

Alistair died right before i killed her though, shame really.

By his late teen levels, nothing could touch my Arcane Warrior when he had Fade Shroud, Shimmering Shield, Death Magic, Telekinetic Weapons, Arcane Armor, Spell Wisp and Rock Armor activated. Barely anything could hit him, the things that did hit didn't do much damage (even though he wore a robe!), and if there were a few non-elite enemies around to kill, Death Magic and the occasional potion kept him at full health. He literally soloed the Archdemon using the above.

Ser Cauthrien had no chance. My mage crowd controlled her, blasted her and her henchmen, then activated God Mode.

Why give an arcane warrior a robe?

One shotted my 67 armor(140 def too) mage with a 398 hit... only way to reliably win seems to be to use force field.

As Kalfear said you can get the sword a bit later. I beat her the first time just to see if I could do it. Then I reloaded my game so I could captured. If you pull her out of the room with the archers they don't seem to follow... So only her two guards come with. After that just put your tank on her and tank & spank. She didn't seem difficult after getting her out of the death room.

use misdirection hex (i think)

the one that stops criticals, im assuming you're playing on hard difficulty.

Criticals from Cauthrien can cleanly cleave your character completely.

CCCCCCC: its a phrase i always remember, infact i wrote it on a sheet of paper and stuck it to my ceiling so whenever i sleep or wake i shall always be reminded of this statement.

I would suggest to people to surrender so that you can break out or wait for the rescue so you can loot the fortress and gain xps. You'll have another chance at her later, and it's much easier.

It's possible but it took me a few tries to cut her head off.

Because a robe with the Honnleath Helm looks kickass, that's why. Also, it wasn't like my character needed more armour, he was barely getting hit, and Shimmering Shield made him practically invulnerable when it was active. I liked to use him as a mage until his mana ran out, so the robe kept him at a relatively low fatigue. I couldn't be bothered to swap entire armour sets every battle.

Rogue can do it. Stealth out, backstab, stun, strike, stealth out. If your stuns land fine while your waiting on stealth recharge, you can get through without a hit. High cunning for crits, and -stealth detect. If your stun doesn't hit, and you get popped, stealth and use pots to heal or wait to regen. Poisons and trap to hold work fine with this too. Solo rogues rule!!!
