Tal'Vashoth?

I only remembered that because it really does pronounce well.

I love all the races, so I don't mind as long as I can choose my gender. I would LOVE to play a qunari though.

I think the way BioWare did the avatars for the dwarves and elves is really what hurt the races. Seems like they were still using the lego mechanics from NWN, meaning we got stuck with guerrilla arms and boy-hips.

I guess I'm a Zelda fanboy, as I started out Origins as a male elf.

I like the dwarves the best, and hope to at least once play one with the new graphics.

Also qunari, preferably a Tal'Vashoth.

When given the option, I usually always choose to play as an elf.

I really can't see the qunari ever being a playable race (at least in this type of RPG)
People simply wouldn't be able to roleplay them properly.
They'd have to either limit the types of responses you could give to make the character believable (which would result in a bunch of people b*tching that they couldn't play a liberal qunari) or they'd let you have all the liberal choices which would make me wonder 'how' the qunari developed these beliefs and 'how' he managed to stay a qunari.

Tal'Vashoth is more likely.

Every DA3 thread placed in the DA2 box has been locked before it ever got anywhere. So let's just enjoy this time as much as we can.

For me it was always: Elf (good), Human (bad), Dwarf (the unused)

Only race I give a damn about are the Qunari (or whatever the **** their race is called, we don't have a name for them yet), because they are largely, the only race so far that is truly Bioware's that we have seen.

Everything else I've seen before, and even subverting tropes, like they did with the Elves have done little to make me care about them. Same goes for Dwarves.

I also would probably not play a game where I was forced to be a Dwarf or Elf.

Well they could still do the VO/VA for the characters and just let you pick the race etc, it's not like the race really has to be a defining characteristic or anything. I'm not saying it would work well, just that it could work. Eh I dunno.

I'd be fine with playing an elf, but I can't see myself playing an entire game as a dwarf. Even in origins, I couldn't make it past Lothering because I just didn't like playing as something that short. Humans are always the best to go with if it's going to be restricted to one race, so I don't mind this game with just human Hawke.

You know, this could be construed as offensive to actual dwarves. You know, people actually diagnosed with dwarfism? I know what you mean though, just giving you a hard time. :P

Dammit!  I really don't want it to come off as offensive.  Let me try to rephrase it then...personally, I just can't role play as a character as something that is nothing like myself.  It's both harder to relate to and strange seeing it on a screen.  I mean, I like dwarven party members, I don't care if there are dwarven LI's.  I just don't want to play as a dwarf.  >_>  Less offensive, hopefully?

Playing as a Qunari would be SO awesome. It would open the fanbase up to an entirely different side of what Thedas is like. Of course, if the main character was indeed a qunari they would have to be Tal Vashoth (I think that's what it's called when a qunari leaves their culture?) because I seriously doubt any players (or at least just myself) could play the game as, for lack of a better term, an emotionless communist. lol

If we couldn't be qunari, then I would also settle for an elf, but it would have to be something different from city or dailish elves which we've already seen. Perhaps playing as a descendant from the elves of Arlathan, which somehow gives you special elf powers? I don't know. Ultimately, I just don't want to be a dwarf. Don't get me wrong, I thought the dwarf origin stories were probably the best out of all of them, but I just don't like being a dwarf for some reason.

Haha, I gotcha. I just have always thought it was funny that people (MANY people on these forums, and fans of fantasy in general) are so quick to openly talk about their disgust for dwarves, when really physically, there's not much of a difference between fantasy dwarves and actual dwarves. If I was a Little Person it would make me sad.

I've never quite understood why people feel that if they play as something other than a human of their gender (though more female gamers I think are willing to adapt since they're used to being forced to play as a guy 95% of the time.) it would ruin the experience for them. Isn't the point of playing a video game to escape from the real world for awhile? To put yourself in the shoes of someone completely different from yourself? If you just wanted to play a beefed up, sexy version of yourself, that's what The Sims is for. I don't dislike Sonic games just because I'm forced to play as a blue hedgehog with superspeed, I don't go "Oh, I can't relate to this!" Of course not, I go, "Oh awesome! I get to be a blue hedgehog with superspeed!"

I guess it depends on what condition you are talking about. The dwarves in Dragon Age do not look like people with achondroplasia or primordial dwarfism. But I do get what you're saying, just that the comparison of physical characteristics are more height based and not really based on proportion (and in this case it's a whole separate race of people, which makes me wonder about humans with dwarfism in Thedas...)

I've tried other origins, but every time I can't help but go back to my Elven mage.

If the modding kit (if any) is more user-friendly this time around, you better believe I'll be enabling elf/dwarven character creation. I mean, humans? Yawn. I already am one. In a world with all these other races, why oh why would I want to play as something I can do away from my computer?

But I digress. Should still be a fun game.

The title is wrong. Should be the Dwarf (good), the human (bad), and the elf (ugly).

I've always been pro-dwarf in fantasy games. The species as a whole is usually underrepresented, regardless of the media, and cannot seem to scape the common prejudices that follow them.
