Better idea. Buy a PLAYSTATION 3. It Only Does Everything.

Except play Mass Effect 1.

What it does do though is give you a cheap interactive comic that has massive plot holes, and a game which came out nearly a year ago on other platforms.

Oh also, before you rage, I own a gaming laptop, an Xbox and a PS3. They're all good in different ways, and it's frustrating when people like you bring console wars to the forums.

Fanboy rage.  Nice.

Though it seems unlikely I would love to see these games for Mac.  It'd make it so I wouldn't have to think about building a new rig.

My assumption is that when you combine the ability to duel boot a Mac and it's smaller install base, it probably doesn't make it financially sound for a lot of companies to offer a Mac specific version. It makes sense for a company like Blizzard to offer a Windows and Mac version of their games because they only build for PCs where as Bioware is already developing for 3 platforms and probably doesn't want to add a 4th.

Actually in the case of Blizzard they determined from Warcraft 1 that they would track both platforms as a single dev cost. Every one of their games has come with both versions in the box. As for Windows on Macs, meh, it works well enough and it keeps me from cluttering up my work partition with games. I work with large format printing so my work files are massive. When I import client art provided as a PDF into photoshop to output it to the printer the file size goes from 30MB to 1.5 GB. Needless to say space is a premium for me.

If it came out for Mac I'd probably buy it anyway just to support the platform and so I could play it on my HTPC in the living room.

I'm all for ME3 on Mac guys... I got one and I`ll probably play ME3 on the OS X depending on some details (like being able to export my PC save games) but... to port an old game to another OS just to please a very small minority?

It may be a small minority, but you can't deny that Apple is a very big company right now.

You'd have to consider the cost opportunities of development time and finances allotted towards the 'port' or 'localization' of the mass effect engine on a mac os x system.

Meaning, under Bioware's current established development model/team set up, does the division of labor and resources prove to be profitable on the return investment of gaining the mac os x demography.

This brings into question numerous things:

-How has Bioware organized its development team

-How will the redistribution of resources affect the project goals in existing IntellectualProperty content (mass effect 3, mass effect 2 dlc, etc)

-What ARE the content project goals in Bioware's IPs.

-Is the underlying software infrastructure that the Mass Effect's engine runs on compatible with Mac OS systems and if it is, how is development time impacted?

also back to market viability

-What is the return on investment for gaining new customers if bioware was to expand into providing mac os support for mass effect?

Basically, in order for bioware to make the necessary organizational changes in its internal operations, it must organize a commission that will research the market trends of expanding into mac os x markets and those data must return a profitability that not only pays for the restructuring of development time but return a profit that will make up for the 'loss in additional content development'.

Sure, but mostly due to their iProducts.

No. He is right. A lot of my friends recently bought iMacs and Macbooks. Its cheaper now... cheaper than a Vaio for sure. It is not the best choice for gaming (if you want a gaming computer you build one) buts reliable with a good operating system. Makes sense to release future versions from now on but to port an old 360-to-pc game to OS X?

My reasons for having one are different tho. I like the idea of a good Unix-like system that isn't using those Xorg desktop interfaces used on Linux and *BSD alike - I don't like them - and with a good range of comercial software available.

iProducts are gateway drugs to bring you to the Mac. Look at system sales growth since the iPhone. They are now the largest consumer electonics company in the world. Pretty impressive when you consider that Michael Dell claimed in 1998 that he would sell of the assets and give the proceeds to the shareholders. So glad he was ignored. I can build a better PC than any of his POS products.

@Ulzeraj,

I should be getting a new system in the next couple weeks that will be a 2010 Edition Mac Mini with 8GB Ram. I'll be setting it up with Ubuntu, Win7 Pro 64bit and OSX 10.6 in a Multiboot configuration so I can get back aup to speed on Win 7 and Ubuntu. Got someone who will be wanting me to assist in maintaining all three OSes for a Local Community Gov't.

If ME were to come to Mac it would most likely be a horrible WINE port. Macs aren't meant for gaming, only Windows, a sad truth, but the only truth of the computer world.

Why would they port to an inferior entity like the Mac?

reported for blatant flame baiting.

(fyi, the Macbook has the best Battery Life to Performance ratio on the market, do your research)

This thread was never ment to start a debate between MAC and PC (I do like the Forbidden Planet/MAC statement). I can easily live with my Win7 partition for gaming. It's working well so far.

So much FUD for such a short statement. Wine makes for poor ports and yes, Jobs doesn't care for games and never made it a push to dev tools for games developers but your statement is so blatantly full of halftruths its pathetic. Simple fact is that games developers were ignored by the mac for many years and MS put out a crapload of tools that they invested heavily in. Now, even though the Mac uses a great many APIs that are cross platform OpenGL etc there is too much in hard resources and training that is focussed on the Active X realm to change. This is a very different statement than yours, the effect is the same but this comes closer to the truth than your flamebait post.

Changing Mass Effect from a PC/Xbox form into PS3 would be MUCH easier than creating a Mac version of the game.

If you look at most Mac games, they do not have any sort of substantially intensive engines, like the Unreal Engine. One of the issues is that the Mac Operating system is very locked down. Whereas Windows is almost entirely open to modding, Apple has an iron grip on its operating system, and gaming has to work around that.

Edit: I should clarify that the Mac operating system isn't closed off to modding. However, it does not operate as "freely", so to speak. Nothing in Mac was really developed for game-playing.

Unfortunately it's not just a matter of pushing a few buttons to release the game on Mac. Believe me, people aren't holding out on you. They just don't have time to release a game on an operating system that is fairly hostile to video games like Mass Effect in terms of operating allowances.

If anyone actually reads this post, being an amateur developer, I assure you there is not a single true fact in this post. (Sans the crossed out part)
