In origins, playing a mage on consoles was frustrating, with targeting issues and excessive pausing required. Rogues and warriors were better suited to console gameplay. Will playing a mage be more fun in DA2?

Give how Bioware hasn't stated that they have expanded the crappy 6 ability slot system, no, I am expecting it to be just as [terrible] as it was in DA:O.

Lucky for me I hate playing mages.

People had a lot of great ideas to expand the set on consoles, but Bioware largely ignored all posts on the matter, or at least,  did not post in the threads, and as of yet haven't notified the community that they were expanding the number of slots.

Expect a lot of pausing.

Maybe you should consider investing some cash into upgrading your PC? It's not nearly as difficult or expensive as it seems. If you squirrel a bit of cash away, and upgrade it at a pace that suits you, you'll be fine.

The targeting was annoying as a mage. Especially if you heal a character, because it stays targetted on them. And sometimes I'd select a spell and she would do nothing. I assume they've improved it.

This is why the PC is the superior gaming system.

Huh...I never had a problem with playing mages on the console. tbh I had more problems with playing one on the PC, but that might be because I was used to the console combat first.

I am having no problems with my mage on the Xbox. Maybe my style is rather "un-magely" (I only have on AoE spell, Fireball, and go to punch the crap out of Cthulu, no healing spells, etc.), but hey, when you have Crushing Prision, you don't need much more, do you? Well, Cone of Cold can't hurt...

Yes, paying 300 dollars to upgrade my PC is the end all solution for bad controls on console.

I honestly am beginning to hate PC players, thanks to the internet. Some of the most selfish bunch of people on earth.

What do you lose by consoles having better controls?  What do you gain by telling people to spend money on a new PC?  Outside of self rightteousness?

lets try to be civil. Yes I have considered upgrading my pc, but i want to know if i can feasably play a mage on console before i spend the money. BW seems to be emphasizing the console this time around, and i have hope that they've improved mages. I'm just wondering what changes they've made.

PC's play just fine.. even go and say they play perfectly. Changing control schemes around to favor console players USUALLY results in a loss or change of controls for the PC users as well. otherwise they are making two different games. THAT is why PC users are mad at consoles and THAT is where the "dumbing down" term comes from. Games used to have complex and in depth controls that worked well for PC now with everything becoming cross platform, games and controls are becoming simplified and "hack and slashly"

Hate on me if you want for believing this is true but it is basically a fact that publishers and developers wont admit and console users dont understand. Only long time PC gamers truly get this and we get frustrated when there is nothing we can do or say to stop this progression.

No, if they fixed the controls of the console it would not effect the PC controls.  PC users need too get over this.

I ask what do PC players lose by fixing controls on consoles and I get this persecution complex, holier than thou rant that only proves my point.

Again, what do PC players lose by controls being better on CONSOLES?  Developers 'dumbing down' controls is an issue that falls squarely on them, not on consoles, and I would contend that if it weren't for consoles, PC players would be playing a lot less than they get to, and some genres would not exist on PC's all together this current gen.  Fixing the controls for console players does not affect PC players in this current case, but PC players get a persecution complex over nothing, as this thread clearly shows.

PC controls are not perfect for me, the mouse is fine but the keyboard is awful.  Controllers are the best comprimise until motion tech in the vein of the Wii/PS Move takes off for more serious gaming.

sorry dude, its not always the case. Alot the the changes of DA2 from DAo was to make the console play better and pc and console games more similar. Console made out greatly here.. PC not so much, but PC still gets DX11 lighting though which is a plus.

Devs are not neccessarily liars, they just candy coat the truth to fit thier needs. When a pc feature gets cut and developers say "it was a design decision" sure that true enough but it was also because its a PC centered feature and only PC will benefit, we didnt feel the need to do the extra work for PC users when it doesnt work on consoles as well. They will not say all of that. Why would they, you just have to understand that it is the way it works. read between the lines...

anyways, dont ban me Bioware, I wount provoke a platform war futher.

No one's forcing you to upgrade all at once. Like I said. Just save a little cash here and there, at a pace that suits you.

The fact is, that unless DAII uses some kind of motion-sensing controller, playing a mage will always be better on PC. By upgrading at a point when you can afford it, you'll be doing yourself a favour in the long run.

I played DAO on PC, but have tested DA II primarily on console. Many of my playthroughs have been as a mage, and I have no problem with the controls. Keep in mind that I'm not a dedicated console player, nor am I particularly tactical, and I found the control scheme easy to use and fast to select spells, pause in combat, heal party members, or switch out my quick-access spells.

the only thing I had to worry about was doing too much damage too quickly and pulling aggro away from the warriors and tanks. Mages can be quite squishy earlier in the game.

Tiax, your avatar is hilarious.

I've played DA:O on both PC and PS3 but never noticed any difficulty when playing a mage on consoles.

I don't play PC games and I'm sure I'd have a better experience on it, but I'm alright with playing a Mage on the console.
