Ha yes the Qun fears addicts serving the Saarebas, awaken and see the truth of what your chantry and false god have done to you Ejid.
Why are beasts given oppulence and favour when you live hard fetching and carrying for them and yet are still despised by the very creatures you protect. Throw off the chains that bind you, be the heroes you were meant to be and slaughter the beasts cavorting in their luxury, sin and filth.
Then come north to your rightful place in the antaam and you shall have an honoured place in the beresaad and be celebrated as the wisest and strongest of warriors, we will give you purpose, honour and a home to vanquish the doubts and emptiness that beset you.

No. Never! My Templar army will destroy the Qunari and their Qun which is secretly an abomination.

Sten - dead.
Saarebas - dead.
Ejid - dead.
Antaam - dead.
Beresaad - dead.
Honour - dead.
Home - dead.
Warriors - dead.

I really hate mages. They are dangerous, many can turn into abominations. Yes, some are good people but just one mage that accepts a demon into their heart can kill hundreds of people. This is why we must kill them all for the good of Thedas. - Ash Warrior Leader

The italiced part is the best justification I found as to why nations and groups in Thedas without a stablished control of magi (Tevinter, the Dalish) have them -the magi- as rulers.

There are less insidious reasons for this, though. Imagine that in our society, the scientsts were also the only ones who could apply science (i.e. design, build and use any technological innovation). Suddenly, you'd have a natural elite class that could interact with the world in a powerful and unique way.

Even without blood magic, mages could basically do more in the DA setting, and that makes them reasonable choices as leaders.

He's already dead. He died before he was born and as a result he didn't know he was dead.

EJID is short for Elton John Is Dead, thou hast just slain thyself in thy lyrium fuelled madness.

And once more we see only the Qun grants wisdom.

Tis a matter of trust. Trust me and I will trust you. Set me free and I will trouble you ne'er again. Give me freedom and I will bestow blessings upon your crops. Let me live and I will heal your sick. Trouble me not and the dark beasts that haunt your lands will know fear.

But deny me these things and hell itself will consume you all.

I hate mages but only because I am jealous of them. They get to rain down fireballs and I am stuck sniping with a bow.

Well I didn't see that, but even then he said Elton John is dead - dead, which is not the same as Elton John - dead.

So take your Qun wisdom and impress some fish around the island you are hiding on.

If I was a normal citizen in Theadas, I'd certainly be weary of mages. If I was a mage, I'm sure that I'd want to rain fireballs on every templar in existence, alongside Anders. Mages can be dangerous, but they're also people at the same time.

Without mages, Ferelden would stand no chance against the Darkspawn.

How's that?  You could conceivably kill Wynne, not have Morrigan at the final battle, not be a mage yourself, side with the Templars... and still defeat the Blight.

The Grey warden joining requires mages, so if there were no mages then alas no wardens. And if it wasn't for Connor being a mage, Eamon probably would have died. No Eamon = no landsmeet support = no political unity in Ferelden. Also Wynne warned the circle about Loghain's treachery so she isn't as pointless as you make out. And don't forget Flemeth's protection of the Grey Warden treaties.

You know if they didn't go out their way to make mages feel unwelcome, they likely wouldn't have the blood magic/abomination problem they have now. Look at the dalish after all.

Mages do need to be regulated though. Can't have them maiming people now can we heh. The question to be asked though is how?

Not to mention the fact that gamemechanics =/= story. Sure you can singled-handedly kill the Archdemon without help from ANYONE. But that's a gamemechanic, not to mention the end battle is kinda lame and not really transporting the importance of anything you did prior to it well. But that's where Bioware failed, and not because mages are useless.

O' Goliath! Thou hast mocked thyself! If thou listened to thee then thou would have seen that thee killed thyself in the first post!

Edit:

WAIT A SECOND! You're that guy with the mustache who was in those threads regarding The Maker! You nearly had me fooled with your new identity but the Templars always win in the end! We got Anders, we got Morrigan, we got Flemeth, we got The Sten and now we've got you.

True, in my game the AD was slain by a mage (the PC) and the Circle mages were key in the final battle. Mages kick so much more ass than ordinary warriors or rogues. Even if you sided with the Templars, I would suspect that there were at least some mages present at the battle for Denerim (such as ones who were absent on errands during the fall of the circle).

If a group of people existed in todays supposedly educated society that had these abilites, those modern mages would be controlled/locked up/persecuted without thought.

There is no question it is 100% reasonable for ordinary folks to want mages locked up or killed.

Indeed. The reason the "templars are bad" view is so prevalent is because most of us live in cushy western societies where anything that smells like oppression is Very Bad, and the only determining factor in how one should treat mages is how fair that treatment is. Of course, we don't have to live with the idea that Poor Oppressed Joe living next door to us might be secretly controlling our mind to make us like him-- or one day turn into a monster and kill our entire family-- but that doesn't need to stop us from being idealistic in our fantasy worlds, now, does it? Any person in my neighborhood could snap one day and go on a killing spree. That doesn't mean no one should be allowed to live near me. Also, in modern society we have the means to track and monitor potentially dangerous people without imprisoning them.

You can't stop people being born as mages, as you can't stop magic itself from existing. So that's not a factor you can influence. But using mages to undo curses mages are responsible for is still a good move. Especially since for every mage in your army,10 normal soldiers don't have to die.
