I am doing a third (full) playthrough with a solo human Arcane Warrior. I am trying to take down the High Dragon at level 18. I took down Flemeth not too long ago at level 16 or 17. With Shimmering Shield it was largely a cakewalk. Her grab attack did laughable damage but the High Dragon seems to be another case entirely.
The High Dragon grab is taking about 75-80% of my 243 health with Shimmering Shield active. Something doesn't seem right. Here is my equipment and relevant buffed stats:
Weapon - Duncan's Sword
Armor - Cailan's Armor Set
Shield - Bulwark of the True King
Shiney Stuff:
- Andruil's Blessing
- The Spellward
- LifeGiver
- The Wicked Oath
Armor - 58
Magic - 56
Constitution - 26
Physical Resistance Check - 100
Elemental Resistances - 75%
Cheat adding the Rock Armor spell to test results in somewhat of a better outcome but I am still wondering if this is normal (for the High Dragon's grab to be so much more powerful than Flemeth's?)
High Dragon - Shimmering Shield Ineffective?

hmm i actually started my soloing right after the high dragon
i soloed flemeth at 15 and like you said it was really easy.
doesnt seem like it should be doing that much dmg though, you even have more armor than i do. idk what to say... up physical resistance and hope you keep resisting it?

Shimmering Shield only protects you against elemental damage, and I believe a grab is classified as standard weapon damage. Your high Armor class should good protection, but then again a bite and shake from the Mountain Top dragon is no joke and your HP are mediocre.
BTW, what I do with a rogue is continuously circle around her rear and back stabbing her. Even without the back stabs it also works great defensively.

SS also provides a hefty bonus to Physical Resistance (http://dragonage.wik...immering_Shield)
I compared my build to others and found that a couple key differences were the absence of Rock Armor and Miasma. When I cheated up these skills to test how the fight would go the grab became more livable but it was still a potion chug-fest to melee the dragon. Then after watching a video of an AW ranging the dragon instead of going toe to toe I took that route. Much easier since the fire damage is mitigated substantially by SS.
