I purchased and downloaded Mass Effect 2 from PSN.  I own 360 and PC versions already.  With all the hype I expected to be blown away by this new engine and it's graphics.  However, 1st.  My 55' ELED Samsung reports only 720p once game is running. (Playstation interface shows up as 1080)  Is Mass Effect 2 only 720p on PS3? Also I see jagged lines all over inside of the Normandy 2.  Is anti-aliasing inferior on the PS3 compared to 360?  Is the fact that I bought the PSN download version of the game instead of the Blu-Ray disc mean I have a lower resolution version than the Blu-Ray disc version.   I wouldn't have thought there would have been a difference.Posted Image

The PS3 version is 720p only. AA is inferior in most ports on the PS3 as well but if you recalibrate your TV it can help. The fact that you own the PSN version makes no difference.

Thanks. I was starting to regret the version I purchased. I'll see what I can tweak on my TV. Maybe there's a setting in upscaling 720 to 1080 that might help.

It seems that if a game uses Unreal Engine 3 on the PS3, AA is rarely implemented. I don't know if this is true, it's just what I've noticed. Maybe I'm so used to it, because whatever jagged lines there might be, they don't really bother me. Honestly, I don't even see them.

Perhaps you're sitting too close to the TV?

I think I am spoiled by the PC version, 1920 x 1200.

Yes, the ME2 PS3 version does have a lot of jagged edges, I have the PC version and when I saw my husband playing on PS3 I noticed it straight away. It is easier to move from PS3 to PC, but hubby really likes that style of game on the PS3 and Dragon Age on the PC. :) The graphic difference for ME2 on PS3 *is* decent enough that you get used to it, but yeah, the jagged is obvious to me.

The 360 version isn't much better.

Also, just as a side note, the vast majority of PS3 and 360 games are rendered at 720p (or less). The main difference is that the 360 has hardware support for 1080p upscaling (leading people to mistakenly believe the game itself is 1080p) while for the PS3 it comes down to a software implementation by the developer, which a lot understandably don't bother with.

Thanks, Sentox6, Shantisands, Agozer, and SpezXVII,

So was it all PR hype then. The reviews in mags and online were all glowing about the new improved engine. I was hesitant to purchase, after playing the demo on PS3. But, I read an article explaining that the demo used the old engine, and the final full game used the new engine. I feel abit suckered.

However, I do enjoy having to blow thru Mass Effect 1 choices to configure situations I haddened before, with out doing Mass Effect 1 all over again to get a profile to import.

Actually I think the article you are referring to didn't say that the demo used the old engine while the final game used the new engine (or then the article got the facts wrong from the very beginning). Both the demo and the final game use the same engine, but the engine in the demo was using old, less optimized code.

The ME2 box on the back clearly states 720p as the max rez.

I run on a 32" LCD 720p and I see jaggy lines on the main characters (Sheppard) arms when she is casual wear on the bridge (with Joker)
