I don't think these people will buy the game if they think this alpha look and performance is what they get in two weeks.
Just something to think about bioware...

what I don't get is that the dx 11 settings are not disabled(greyed out) in the demo. Everyone who doesn't live in the bioware forum will assume dx 11 is enabled and try to use it, as long as his/her hardware meets the requirements. And what does he/she get then? Crappy Performance and crappy graphics with a lot of bugs.

I think you are understimating the intelligence of most PC users who have issues with game performance, most of them would do what everyone else does and head straight for the Bioware Forums to investigate whether or not there has been a fix or instructions on graphics issues.
I dont think that these issues that people seem to be having with the demo will deter most hardcore Bioware fans as almost every game released on the market to a PC has some sort of issue, comes with the territory and the fact that these days no two PC's are designed the same so conflicts will happen.
Is normally why on day one there is some sort of patch released..

In particular, you play the initial bit where you kill waves of Darkspawn, then you zip forward to Kirkwall and get a bunch of skill points, then it skips you through some conversation. I know that the conversation with Isabella is different in the game because I watched the recent Q&A with Mike Laidlaw, which showed more options and more general dialogue.
I had one issue which was conversation cutscenes occasionally had a slight "Loading..." pause. Also the Templar's armour (the guy who you meet with Aveline) looks kind of cartoony. Everyone else looks ok, just his armour. Dunno what's going on there.
The combat was nice, maybe a little bit of tweaking here and there is needed. For example, the charge thing the warrior does looks like he's teleporting, which seems like a higher-level mage ability. Also I think ranged characters are a little too powerful in melee. Also, is there friendly fire? I was using a few AOE spells and abilities and didn't see much evidence of my allies taking damage.
Edit: People having issues with DirectX should first download and install this: http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en. This will check for any missing versions of DirectX and install them. Also run dxdiag and see if it gives any errors.

The Demo supposedly includes an updated Direct3D install, but doesn't automatically load that (I have have a somewhat gimped version of Cable Broadband, at 256 upward, and only 384 downward, so I don't typically download very large files such as represented by the Demo).Andat wrote...

The Demo doesn't actually offer Dx11, despite an apparent option to use it. I have no idea at all about Dx10, either, but the key part of Direct3D for most of us will remain Dx9.0c

Ah, I didn't know that, and it didn't seem to happen for me (I wasn't downloading from Steam though). When I attempted to start the demo, I was told by the config utility that I didn't have the right version of DirectX installed. I have Windows 7 (so Dx11), but I recently upgraded (from Vista, but the x86->x64 platform switch forced a reformat, unfortunately). I figured the older versions were what it needed so I downloaded the tool I linked to, which downloaded a bunch of older updates and installed them. After that, the demo worked.
Hey, my interweb provided by copper wire, which is like trying to pull an elephant through a drinking straw. Also I think Sky have been throttling my connection because I've gone over my limit (I could go and check on their website but I'm too lazy). The demo didn't actually take too long to download though - I got my girlfriend to kick off the download when she got home (about 6PM GMT) so it was done by 10. I installed while watching Blue Bloods then was playing at 11.
I don't have a Dx11 card anyway, so I didn't even try to enable it in the settings. I would expect that to be disabled for me because of my hardware. I will probably scrape together £200 at some point to by a pair of Radeon 5770s to replace my 3870s, but right now I'm saving the cash.

It's 4pm - 8pm GMT so it will no doubt be round about 5am - 9am Thursday because of the time difference...at least I hope thats it because I have been checking the PSN all day and no sign of it so it better be Thursday lol.

My opinion regarding Crossfire and SLI has always been that as much trouble as it can cause, and the way that single GPU performance scales going upward, only the very top level is suitable as a choice for dual VGA cards. The difference between two HD 5770s and one HD 6870 is less money for the newer card, and more performance. The same was usually true for two HD 5770s and one HD 5850, with fewer discounts, rebates, and sales promotions for the 5850 compared to the 6870.Andat wrote...

That might be true - I've not spent a great deal of time researching the different options since my current setup is adequate for the current games. My 3870s are a few years old so it seemed like a good investment at the time, and they've stood me in good stead so far.
Anyway, topic for another thread. Thanks for the advice on the cards, I'll bear that in mind!

[EDIT] Just finished the PC demo, it only unlocks the item for PC. Oh well, on to the 360 demo, hopefully it won't freeze again.

I'm having problems and I can't get the demo to start (and I read the readme and my computer certainly meets the requirements.)
I'm getting these errors:
The program can't start because d3dx9_43.dll is missing from your computer.
So I uninstalled and tried to re-install and got this msg:
Error opening file for writing (DragonAge2Demo.exe)
Is anyone else having this problem?
Its not the error of the game, its an error of direct x
To solve this just go to this link and download the d3dx9_43.dll file and paste it as instructed.
http://www.dll-files....shtml?d3dx9_43
Dont download the demo again mate just do what I said.
Thank you for trying to help. I already downloaded that file, and a few others, until I got to one that's something like 3DCOMPLIER_43.dll and that couldn't be found anywhere on the internet. So I tried to install the game on another computer. I got the exact same error messages, so I think it's the download itself.

Could some1 please explain the haydens razor business to me please? Due to spoiling a few things for myself with ME2 i decided to stay away from DA2 until release. Did very well until I found the demo yesterday. Couldnt resist. Shame. I'm now playing catch up, and if something is on offer, dont want to miss it.

Just make sure you are logged into your ea account when you play demo, either on xbox, ps3 or pc and play the demo all the way thru to the very end and you will unlock haydens razor for use in game on release
