Dragon Age 2 Demo Announced

Completed the demo. It was pretty good (if a bit short), though at times I felt like I was playing an MMO due to pacing. But once I "rediscovered" the pause combat feature....it felt better.
Here's the thing I haven't seen discussed:
As the final cut scene rolls, and the "promo" for the game gets to it's end...there is a splash screen that flies by WAY too fast that says something about "Preorders get to enjoy a digital head start". WHAT?? There was an asterisk afterwards, but the splash screen went by to fast for me to check out the fine print.
Can anyone elaborate?

haven't tried archer at all..i thrived off of dual blades in DAO after initially going that route. maybe theyve upgraded archers this time?

It is a DEMO... Demos never come out with the full texture resolution, otherwise they would be lot bigger.yanquis1983 wrote...
am i the only one not seeing a graphics upgrade, or are my memory/computer/settings crap?

My guess is that with all the bells and whistles (including DX11) the Demo could have exceeded a filesize of 3 Gigabytes, or even more.
You have to find the balance between giving people a first look and graphics that are not looking like they are from the last decade, and in my opinion Bioware pulled it off quite well.

i also couldn't tell the difference between ME1 & 2 with a gun pointed at my head so i'm prob just not that sharp aesthetically.

Well, the visuals in ME2 only had more polygons, not really any kind of sharper textures (just take a look at the casual outfit Gianna Parasini is wearing, or Doc Chakwas, or Liara).yanquis1983 wrote...
i'm not really complaining..just wondering about the ppl who say all they see is better graphics or what have you. they look the same to me.

@Fuelreaver
I did notice however that the blockiness surrounding characters has not gone away though, it is very noticeable when you talk to Aveline and her Husband when you first meet them.

no, it will only be available on one platform, whichever you actually buy the game for.. then the remaining two items become unavailable for those additional platforms
Which is rather silly (Do they really have any reason to discourage you from playing on more than one platform? Multiple platforms means that for some odd reason multiple copies of the game were sold to the same person.), but ultimately irrelevant. The real problem is that the PC demo didn't update my status for some reason despite the fact that my first couple of demo runs were completed on that platform. My reference to the Staff of Parthalan is merely to show the inept handling of the whole thing. The staff was logged to all three platforms, so the Razor could be as well. Why should it matter which platform I finish the demo on?
Also, do you (or anyone else) have a source for this claim that only one platform gets logged for purposes of the freebie Razor? I went hunting for some comments along those lines by the developers, but was unable to find anything.

I saw a thread in one of the other DA2 forums about this. Someone from Bioware clarified that the "headstart" in this case is a reference to the freebie items that you get for pre-ordering. i.e. you get a leg up over the people who didn't pre-order because you get the extra stuff.

Well when I have finished installing the game and clikc play I get a error messagde where a file named: "d3dx9_43.dll" could not be found? I have tried to install it around 3 times now but still the same. Someone knows what the problem might be?
Thanks for now

There is fix for you ....
Anyways, why did Bioware ruin the combat? I liked DA:O combat waaay more. This just feels like some ****ty God of War hack n slash ****... waay to much console action for me. Give back the PC gameplay!

its definitely better than the console DA:O, No horrible mucky textures. Nice and crisp. Love the art style too.
I second this, the difference between DA:O and DA2 on the console is absolutely amazing, characters are beautifully done and I cannot wait for the whole game, even more so now that this Demo has whetted my appetite

Whats about that CRASH after characters buildup, as I thought it is solved by ticking the VSYNC box OFF in Video options. But still there are some bugs, like the view. Managed by some key combination get the camera angle so it looks down on characters but couldnt get it back to normal forward view. And collecting stuff from corpses is wayyyyy to slow and characters sometimes dont finish it.

Well couldnt find any difference in graphics quality, but was getting used to the game. Especially fun was to play with rogue, at last the class has some meaning in it, not like in DAO where u had to always face rogues on enemies back or no gain. Now Im waiting for the game to be released also. But still not quite used with the looks of game(feels so sad and serious) and all that splatter.

from reading alot of these comments on this forum these last few days, I take it the game looked pretty special on the PC, which makes complete sense...
Those of us that played it on xbox can attest to how lame the game looked visually, anyone who has a mate that played DA:O on xbox when they played on PC need to go have a looksy at how crap the game looked
Then they can start to understand why us xbox users are gushing over this demo's visuals, cause the game looks absolutely amazing this time round on the xbox, plus the 30 mins of gameplay vid ive seen in the last day or so shows that it maintains that goodlooking structure throughout.. im so very psyched!!

wow... big jump. From 555,000 to 999,000 in about 4 hours... hmmm. I wonder if their counter messed up somewhere? I could has sworn I saw it at 777,000 about 8 hours ago... then 3 hours later it was at 555,000. I thought it might have just been my eyes since I was half asleep when I first checked it. Now I'm wondering.... hmmmmmm
Spammers got to it yesterday, so Bioware removed around 300,000.... they'll probably do it again.

Love the Demo but Boo on those who made the Xbox demo for Gold members only.
If microsoft allowed free demo downloads to silver members, other than the cod brigade, what would be the point in gold membership at all? Also, nothing to do with bioware. As i have said before, when I joined you got 30days gold free for setting up a new gamertag. I would have thought it is still the same although im not certain.
Actually, most demos are free for Xbox Live Silver members as well. DA 2 demo, is the ONLY demo where i saw the msg that you need Xbox Live Gold to download it.
Anyhow, i think this is rather stupid. Microsoft will NOT get people to buy their (scam) Xbox Live Gold memberships just becasue they release very few demos for Gold only (and nothing would change if they released all demos for Gold only, cause most people who have silver either a) Do not need it, and/orThinks it is money grabbing (companies need money, but what microsoft is doing, is too much), scam etc).
All new demos (hyped games) require GOLD. After a week or two, then Silver can get it too.
