wow... big jump. From 555,000 to 999,000 in about 4 hours... hmmm. I wonder if their counter messed up somewhere? I could has sworn I saw it at 777,000 about 8 hours ago... then 3 hours later it was at 555,000. I thought it might have just been my eyes since I was half asleep when I first checked it. Now I'm wondering.... hmmmmmm

Spammers got to it yesterday, so Bioware removed around 300,000.... they'll probably do it again.

Spammers got to the game?  How would that be if the system requires it to be downloaded and logged in?  Or is it ONLY downloaded?  Are they keeping the idea that other locations/sites are offering the game to be downloaded as well.  I know I have played it several times... but I keep losing internet connection during my play through, so I don't know if it counted my game or now myself... so wonder if it counts that as a single log in or multiple?

Look its only a freaking demo of a game that as evolved if is like part one ill be disappointed, I can't judge a movie by its trailer alone to know weither or not I want to watch it. Let's wait to   play the finished work love or hate it, or wait for reviews and go from there. Its kinda like saying mass effect 2 is better than part1 the first time you start playing it, give it time soak to in and I'm sure dragon age 2 is gonna win its own share of awards. Demo's are never usually how the game is real game is, and if we had any say in the development it would've came out last summer, if that was the case, for the titled march 8 release.

Has anyone else been having crashing issues with this game on PC? I noticed when I enable DirectX 11, High Graphics, and turn on SLI (NVidia 460s)... then the game plays until I reach the Ogre the second time... and crash. I have been able to play it all the way through on Directx 9, but not 11. I swore that these video cards have that capability, so why not work? Didn't know if I'm the only one with this specific issue in here.

DirectX 11 does NOT WORK very well in this Demo.
Chris Priestly said that there are bugs in the DX11-Renderer, which are fixed in the Main Game, but not in the Demo.

Love the Demo but Boo on those who made the Xbox demo for Gold members only.

If microsoft allowed free demo downloads to silver members, other than the cod brigade, what would be the point in gold membership at all?  Also, nothing to do with bioware. As i have said before, when I joined you got 30days gold free for setting up a new gamertag. I would have thought it is still the same although im not certain.

Actually, most demos are free for Xbox Live Silver members as well.  DA 2 demo, is the ONLY demo where i saw the msg that you need Xbox Live Gold to download it.

Anyhow, i think this is rather stupid.  Microsoft will NOT get people to buy their (scam) Xbox Live Gold memberships just becasue they release very few demos for Gold only (and nothing would change if they released all demos for Gold only, cause most people who have silver either a) Do not need it, and/or B) Thinks it is money grabbing (companies need money, but what microsoft is doing, is too much), scam etc).

All new demos (hyped games) require GOLD. After a week or two, then Silver can get it too.

That's great news.  I have Silver and (if you're watching BW) am one of those gamers that was less than impressed with DA:O (in fact, got bored and haven't finished it).  I truly want to try it out in demo form and would be unlikely to buy the full game unless a demo impressed me. I hate to say it, but the XBOX graphics on DA:O was a real turnoff. I'll wait the few weeks to try it out once it becomes available for free.

stonbw1- From the demo on xbox I've played, the graphics are so much better on DAII. The game play is faster and feels more responsive so, imo, you should download the demo and give it another chance. For full disclosure here, DAO is my favourite game. DAII might just take over if the demo is any indication but you never know.

Two words: big disappointment.

Never thought I would write this about a Bioware game...

I quite enjoyed the demo. And earning something from trying it was a nice touch as well.

Unless the camera can pull back further and the game doesn't seem as limited on the PC version, the full thing isn't going to do much to convince me. It just seems to me that the series has gone from being "the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate" and a proper, deep PC-oriented RPG into a limited hack'n'slash action game dumbed down due to being made more for the console than the PC just because the original game's console versions didn't quite play as well, as well as half-rebooting the whole IP. Feels like after hooking me in with the first one BioWare have stabbed me in the back and given me the middle finger with this one.

First Mass Effect 2, and now this. Unless DA2 is a lot better in the final, full version then I think I'll have had it with the Dragon Age series. As it stands DA2 has pretty much killed Dragon Age for me to the point where I just feel like throwing out the two novels and forgetting the IP ever existed, and BioWare are at the point where they no longer get the free pass they had earned before. Years of years of quality and great titles, and then the dumbed-down Mass Effect 2 smudged that and now DA2 appears to be strike two. It just seems that after years of loyalty BioWare are now just not the company for me any more, and are abandoning me for the mainstream because they feel they need to, when they don't; they merely choose to. A lot of the stuff Mike Laidlaw has said has made this pretty clear.<_<

Just finished the demo. I get the feeling DA2 is more FPS than RPG (with respect to DAO that is). If true, this is not a good thing IMHO.

BTW, it took me three tries to download the file. Kept getting corrupted files.

Okay well ive tried on ps3 as pc kept mesisng up.

Important question on pc will we have to constantly keep pressing attack to attack? This was infuriating on ps3 constantly pressing the x button while watching you partys health etc. Will there be an option to have an auto-attack you choose to use their abilities etc but once you have your enemy he keeps attacking without the constant need to hammer X?

Yet another decent game has been dumbed down for the console market.  Us pc gamers have almost no pc centric games left the consoles are destroying gaming.

Lord Bong, it isn't dumbed down. If anything it's a step forward. Here's why:

1.) Great voiced dialogue for main character with a system that enables a more animated approach to things. Some say it's too much like Mass Effect, but I was so busy enjoying DA2 that I didn't even think about it.

2.) A menu system that is easy to use and keeps the essential things, while doing away with useless spells and things people hardly used in Origins.

3.) A more hands on approach to combat, which is great. Giving orders and watching my hero line up and attack by himself in Origins wasn't as fun as actually dodging the ogre's rock or backflipping out of trouble with my rogue in DA2.

Anyway, that's my opinion, for what it's worth.

Finished the demo (for PC) recently.

Quick comments:
1. VO of the main character is a nice touch compared to the mute Warden of DAO. The quality of the VO work also sounds good.
2. Have read the posts about whether combat is dumbed down or improved and am still ambivalent myself; certainly it feels and looks more hack and slash than DAO but the improvements to the levelling tree and cleaner interface are appreciate.
3. Not sure why the demo ended in Kirkwall rather than when the party is rescued by BW's own Dragon-ex-machina except that you end the demo with the fiery pirate and hint of sexual frisson.

Not sure what that says about BW and the direction of their pre-launch push!

I love the direction the graphics are going in the game. I felt like Morrigan and Alistair are somewhat in my party the whole time because of their accents and some hair and face structures. Maybe it's because I wanted to see them .../shrug. The fights aren't easy. I have to plan and (still haven't gotten to the end of the demo yet but working on it) and It seems like a lot of micro managing, which can be a good thing! I don't want it too easy but still should be doable. My newly rebuilt system doesn't have a problem running the demo.

The demo feels like they have moved closer to a diablo clone. The demo would not play and crashed my whole system (after the character creation screen) on my main machine with a ATI 5970 video card. I finally played it on a different machine with an older nvidia card but could not stay logged in to the EA network (it disconnected during play) so I didn't get credit for finishing the demo. I did play though on the 360 without any issues except you have to spam the attack button to actually do damage (again diablo clone).

Don't get me wrong I love Diablo but that is not what I was wanting or expected from DA...

I'm still getting a copy for the PC. But where I am so excited (actually that is an understatement) for Skyrim after seeing the trailer I'm let down by the DA demo...

Actually I was kind of unfair. There were changes I did like. I like the improved graphics and animation. I also like the Mass Effect style chat system.

Take a look in the Config Program that you can start from the launcher, there, check if DX11 is checked.
If it is, set it to DX9.
The option for DX11 is there, but does nothing other than produce graphical errors, slowdowns and, as you obviously noticed, a lot of hangups.

Played the PC demo through 4 times to experience genders and classes. It grows on you. I am disappointed about lack of different races and origin stories. Combat is more enjoyable. Environments look watered down. We'll see how it looks in a year after the modders fix it. Would have much rather had a continuation of my DAO character (direct import). If game is not as long as DAO, may wait for price to drop a bit. I don't like the new limit on how far up your can scroll out the view. I had trouble with a mage viewing a mob of friends / enemies at a distance and selecting the enemy to attack without the full overhead view. Plus, you can no longer scroll view by touching mouse to edge of screen. WASD and pausing still work great. Stamina / Mana / Health on screen by default really helps, genius. Shortcut key to loot all, great. I don't like the new skill tree view, looks more sci fi than fantasy. Nice new stats screen, shows immediately effect of points assigned. Not clear how to easily select entire party, no select all or hold/free buttons by group pics, but drag click over party still selects all. Rogue backstab point of view change is disorienting, I have to pause and rotate view every time. The amount of blood in combat animations is bordering on unrealistic, would prefer more realism. Party members seem to need more direction than in DAO, they will stand around doing nothing unless you tell them to attack, in many cases. Have to manually walk around path up hill to attack archers, or warrior will just stand at bottom of hill and attack the mountainside. Had quite a few times when music stopped, just fighting to the sound of wind blowing for several minutes. Seems like much less loot than DAO, used to get something from almost every darkspawn corpse, not anymore. Health refills quickly after battle, great.

The character models and faces are VASTLY improved in DA2. :o Hell we even got vertex shaded hair this time as opposed to the gunky polygons & texturing hair models in DAO.  That's gotta be a first in both DA or ME. (yes I am aware that morrigan had Vertex hair but thats as far as it went.)

One thing is for sure after playing the demo i started playing DAO again (for the 1000 times) but it doesn't feel right anymore, i mean the story and all are there but the combat its reallyyyy slow, and the funny thing is i used to love it! Now, after playing the DA2 demo, i find my self trying to backstab a guy and i take ages to get to him and them go around him, I got owned by an enemy mage that kept controlling me, was really frustrating. The moment in a combat situation now just feels awkward!

I'm cannot wait for this game anymore, I'm dieing over here bioware.

I feel the same way. I was in the middle of DAO when I played the DA II demo. Now I can honestly say I am having trouble going back. Can't quite concentrate on DAO gameplay style as I use to. Can't involve myself in the story as much anymore either. It sucks cause I really wanted to finish it before DAII came out.

well, there is some truth in the statement that Mages are ungodly unbalanced towards other classes in that they can literally set your azz ablaze and burn you to a crisp in a matter of minutes.

I think it will be go live today. I just checked and still nothing, but my guess is that it's going to be later on the day (i'm in the +1 gmt time-zone).
