Like all caster battles, your best defense is a strong offense. That means a fast rush to immobilize the spellcasting. Without knowing what class(es) and level you are playing I can only suggest general tactics. Buy a few potions of both invisibility and speed. At the entrance door to Gulnan's lair, pause, buff you and your hench and with at least the 2 I mentioned, then place your hench on Stand Ground. Race straight to the back of the room to the right of Gulnan. Do NOT engage in any combat at this point.majnoon53 wrote...

Ignore the altar bashing. It just puts your PC at an immediate disadvantage by alerting Gulnan to your presence.
When your PC is near the back wall, pause and command your hench to Follow. As soon as it reaches your PC, change it to Attack Nearest and attack Gulnan BY MELEE. If you elect to cast spells or other range attack, Gulnan will begin casting spells and this will likely unnecessaily extend the kill shot on Gulnan giving all those annoying zombies time to reach your party.
This is a basic method to neutralize a caster's strength. Especially useful is KD, if you have it (or stunning fist, for a monk).
Aribeth will remove any detrimental effect... or use a Greater Restoration scroll, if your class permits. If it is only a negative ability spell, a Lesser Restoration potion should cure it.also she keeps putting a cursed spell on me which i cant find a potion for, any help please

I think you should destroy the altar (200 XPs) before killing Gulnan otherwise the altar will destroy itself when the Yuan Ti is dead with no Xps delivered at all.
When you enter the lair you should get on the right wing behind the altar in order not to alert Gulnan (tell your companions to follow). Kill everything approaching then order your companions to stop behind (always on the right wing of the lair). You can silently approach and bash the altar without alerting her.
Are you a spellcaster or a fighter? Buffing before attacking in mass usually works especially combined with the ability to "knockdown" your enemy. Usually enemy spellcasters are low in discipline and can be easily grounded. By attacking all together everyone gets opportunity attacks when Gulnan casts her spells

Quite funny... the first time I walked into that room I went straight for the Yuan-Ti and got hammered in merely a second, but not before I saw the altar in the upper right corner for a split-second, so I reloaded my last save, went to the altar, bashed it to bits and then faced the Yuan-Ti with Tomi. We both focussed on her (and ignored the 2 summoned things) and put her down witihin seconds
I bet the altar was bugged in your game, just reload your last savegame, that might work
) because destroying the altar made the Yuan-Ti Challenging instead of Impossible (to beat) lvl for me

I would ignore this sentence (but no doubt you have wisdom in posting thisHipMaestro: "Ignore the altar bashing. It just puts your PC at an immediate disadvantage by alerting Gulnan to your presence. "

Pure coincidence. Bashing the altar gives XP and kills all undead within the proximity. It does not change any property of Gulnan whatsoever.Naschrakh1983 wrote...

However, the topic was about how to best defeat Gulnan, not how to get the most XP. Gulnan is not a True Seer and can be forced into melee if you are able to place your PC at short range undetected. Getting your invisible henchie there alongside pretty much guarantees Gulnan will not last more than 2 or 3 rounds. A level 12 Cleric only gets stronger if allowed to start buffing and launching spells like Divine Power, HoG or Blade Barrier. The curse is another PITA. My tactic against spellcasters is, and will always be, to get within striking range without detection and control the combat sequence competely with effective attacks. For a fighter, Knockdown is an essential so that would be the most preferred intial attack stroke.
Choose to bash the altar first, and you will allow at least 2 unabated rounds for typical cleric AI to kick in. Of course, all best plans can be altered/negated by the dice, right?
It's not wisdom, just common sense.

Id say wisdom AND common sense are bashing the Yuan-Ti's source of strength, thus destroying the very item she draws power from

You can try another way, let your henchie go straight to his slaughter, Gulnan is really tough if you let her buff her spells but you can keep on nailing her with an xbow but, believe me, this takes a lot of patience since her initiative is really high too, a bolt and then a run. If you are a spellcaster you should focus on buffing yourself and your party since most of the offensive spells will simply be ignored by her protections.
