Shepard. I actually just wrote a post about this, so I'll quote it here:

It would really annoy me if Shepard's death is required at the end of ME3. An option is fine, but I spent too much time on these Shepards to just kill them off. I would never finish the game, and stop before the death scene on every playthrough.

When other characters get killed off, it can either be annoying if done badly, a sad and powerful moment if done right, or a combination of both. We don't have much control over the other characters, but we control Shepard directly. Shepard is closer to "our character" than the others will ever be, sort of like half ours and half BioWare's. They provide the guidelines, but for the most part, we've had a big range of choice. It should end like DAO, with a lot of choices.

My favorite character (Saren) died in ME1, and I definitely consider that moment sad and powerful. It was also the best dialogue I've ever seen in a videogame.

As for the characters who are still alive, Garrus is the squadmate I care most about. TIM is one of my favorite characters too, and I worry about him. Same with Kai Leng, even though he hasn't appeared in a Mass Effect game. My favorites tend to get killed off. I hope the pattern doesn't continue into ME3.

If the squaddie's death serves to tell a great story, I'm happy. But then, people tend to prefer happy endings so I might be in the minority to be OK with squaddie death...

I'd be really annoyed if Shepard died, but Joker dying would kill me. Any other character (thus far) in the games I'd be okay with being killed off.

... Except maybe Wrex.  Wrex might upset me as well.

Not to mention it's completely cliché and expected.  And guaranteed to make me either cry like a baby or ragequit.

Survived Virmire, having a bad time dealing with Shepard's death and his/her involvement in Cerberus, and then he dies. Ouch.

And also Shiala, cause she's awesome, noble, and she simply deserves it, withall that she's gone through.

JK, JK, I jest............... but yeah, definitely Kaidan would upset me the most.

All of the females, I wouldn't cry over, even the ones who *cough* aren't technically females *cough*

I would also be upset if Mordin, Thane or Jacob died cos they interested me most (and Wrex)

FYI, the asari are still female, just not "women" because the term has no meaning in asari society (there's no gender role of "man" to contrast against; biologically, however, they're still female). Forgive my nitpickiness.

Obviously I'd want all my squadmates to live, but that might not happen for dramatic effect. Honestly Kaidan would be the biggest loss for me. But now that I think about it, Joker's death would be outstandingly more heartwrenching than any squadmate dying.
