I was thinking last night that after I've played the game through all 6 origins it might be fun to experiment with playing the game only as characters who are the same sex as the PC (as far as the game allows, that is).  Has anyone tried this?

If you want to have all 3 classes with you at once it would force the PC to take on a particular class, however.  The male would have to be a mage since both the companion mages are female, while the female would have to be a warrior as there is no female warrior companion.  Also, since there are only 4 female companions thereisn't much choice     My Girl Power group would  consist of:

Female Warrior PC
Wynne
Leilana
Morrigan or Shale  (undecided now I have been reminded that Shale is female)

As 2 of those companions are "good" I would try to make the most moral decisions in game.  I'd probably make the less moral decisions for the male character as only Alistair seems concerned about morality on the male side.  My suggestion for the Boys Club party (which I would stick with throughout) would consist of:

Male Mage PC
Zevran
Oghren
Sten

Keep in mind that Shale is, in fact, female. Or used to be anyhow.

Oh yeah! I forgot Shale is female even though I did her companion quest in my 2nd game. Her voice is just so masculine that even though I'd heard references to "her" in walkthroughs I'd been getting assistance from I was dubious about the gender until I saw it for myself. It does allow for another option in the Girl Power group though so thanks for reminding me. She and the Warden had a fun conversation about her gender being a surprise to the Warden which culminated in her comment along the lines of "Let''s go kill something squishy,. That's what girls like to do, isn't it?" Something like that anyway!

I'm really tempted. I'm playing a female PC mage, and wreaking havoc with Wynne and Morrigan with Shale tanking is fun. I did a couple of the Chantry quest areas with that group, but haven't made enough lyrium potions to do a proper full treaty quest.

If one of your mages goes whole hog with arcane warrior, use Shale as a buffbot and forget her tanking. If you plan it out, you will not need lyrium potions, even on Nightmare.

Hmm fair point. I am coming up to level 14 with that character...

Ahh, I remember doing this in KOTOR..."Who needs girls?" We'd have an all-dude party..me, Carth, Canderous and HK. Good times.

Haven't done this yet in DAO yet though. I'd def have to be a male mage, with Alistair, Oghren and Sten backing me up. That'd be such a sweet party!! I currently have never done that just because I almost always have Morrigan in my party...
