If one is inclined to spare Loghain, given his talents are mostly set in stone, what armor, weapon, shield, etc. and Second spec would be best? I assume he is best at a tanking role.
If he isn't given Templar, would a Beserker/Templar Oghren prove useful with him?
P.S. I have the Ultimate Edition, so Cailan's Arms and Armor set, etc. are at my reach.

Well if your on the pc which i see your not then you could respec him to whatever you wanted :( but for console users then yes tank is pretty much the way he is set up.

As for second spec i like reaver it has some pretty good abilities

Armor wise theres the Juggernaut Armor Set , Cailan's Armor Set.

Champion/Reaver if you want him to Tank, Champion/Templar if you want him to damage.

Going tank probably.
Isn't Berserker better at damage than Templar anyway?

Berserk adds +8 damage per hit basicaly, much more useful on a duel dagger setup or even a dagger+Shield setup.
The Templar bonus is it Has a area of effect Knockdown/Stun you can add to your list of useful abilities. Alternative with Warcry you can keep a group of enemies on the ground and out of the fight for a good part of your battles. You can also as a Templar you can make your character 100% immune to magic. Very useful on higher difficulty levels.

Cleanse area is also situationaly useful.

But those are useful for Tanks, or at least more useful for Tanks than Damagers. CC is the backbone to Tanking.:wizard:

Loghain's River Dane armor is honestly not bad in the slightest, and has no Strength requirements. The latter part won't matter for console, but for PC it allows Loghain to be an even more effective defense tank than anyone else, as you can take only 32 strength for skills, and dump everything else into Dexterity.

As far as damage, no spec is particularly bad at damage, and Sword&Board offers quite a bit of control for what it does lose out on in damage. Berserker is likely the winner for DPS spec for S&B especially if the damage bonus applies to the shield hits, which I don't recall if it does or not.

Berserker is best for duel wielders, not good for Sword+Shield and Terrible for Two handers.

Weapon+Shield can do some really great damage if you build it as 26 Dex, all other points Str. While being defensivly capable and keeping its status immunities from Shield Wall. Offensive Tank specs work just as well as defensive ones in Dragon Age.

Berserker has +8 damage a hit which shouldnt be that much if your built right or are some kind of pure defensive(Read as all Dex) Dagger+Shield Tank. It also gives a decent Health regen. The problem comes from two factors really. First is the fact that Berserk has to be micromanaged for every fight, it will auto detoggle whne there are no enemies left then go on cool down forcing you to stop and take a break between fights if you want to use it all the time or to ignore the ability altogether and just rush through and only have it on some of the time. The Other Problem is your Stamina and the stamina drain you get with it. By itself not much of a problem but when combined with Champion spec rally having both on will hurt your stamina alot unless your stacking  +Stamina gear.

So for Tanking Champion/Reaver, Champion/Templar, or even Templar/Reaver are better and more beneficial.

Though if you want to spice up your life go with my Suicide tank build.
Has around 32-38 Str for armor, all other points into Dex. Uses Duel Daggers, and Berserker/Reaver (Berserker/Templar can work too if you going for a Chronicles of Riddick, Riddick type character) and make sure you have +Elemental damage from Runes in your daggers, and your party has Morrigan and Wynn running Frost/Fiery weapons respectivly. Also get at least rank 3 Poison and poison your blades. With all your proper abilities active you will be doing the most damage in the game after enemies are resist debuffed. Very effective on bosses since you can stack resist debuffs (theres two for each mage) on a Boss and sometimes get the 100% critical chance hex off on a boss too to have your Tanking easily doing hundreds of damage in seconds.
