So, I am currently playing Baldur's Gate tutu, and i plan to take my character all the way to ToB. He's a human Skald, with some pretty amazing stats (I rolled for half an hour, and suddenly I went "Woah!"). Normally I've played as a fighter or ranger, but this time I wanted to try something a little more versatile. He's now lvl 5 with the vanilla party following.

He is proficient in longswords and shortbow, with single weapon style. This is because in BG i tend to use the bow a lot, and it's easier to change weapons with single weapon style. But as I import him over to SoA, he will be more eengaged in melee. I know  blades are better fighters and all, but i like the skald, and I will manage to make him a decent fighter.

Anyhow, here's my question: should i put a point in two weapon style or shord and shield style? Skalds can only put one point in each proficiency, so I'm not sure which to take. With two weapon style he's going to make more attacks, but with a lower THAC0. Sword and shield style gives a bonus against missile weapons, but the problem is, the bard can only use bucklers. There is a +1 buckler in SoA, which would give my character -1 AC more than what single weapon style gives him. I also heard that single weapon style increases the chance of a critical hit. Is this true? If so, should i just stick with it?

Dual-weapon style is the only way to go for bards. Doubles their damage output.

Well, then I shall try that. I have another question for now. How well can a bard with 18 INT function as a substitute mage? I'm asking because in SoA, I plan to use Imoen as my spellcaster. But until I get her, I didn't plan on bringing any spellcasting NPCs. Is it doable to use my Bard as the only spellcaster until I get to Spellhold?

In theory, yes. You will have fewer spells, so it may become more difficult though. Try to use Remove Magic when running out of Breaches and think about exploit-killing Kangaxx for some Improved Hastes. That is not required, but will make things significantly easier.
