Hello DAO fanatics!

As some of you might have noticed from my profile I am a game researcher and a game journalist. I am currently preparing my thesis for Media Studies (specifically Game Studies) and for that I’m studying sex and romance in Dragon Age: Origins. I am in dire need of player experiences and stories from those who

a)    play, or
   play and create fan material (fic, art, mod)

I have a few questions about the motivations to play the game, to have a romance in the game and to create game-related material off-game. I will be forever greatful for all answers and will publish my thesis to the participants when it is done. Every answer, even a short one is valuable for my purposes.

Addai, thank you so so much! Yes, I am a lucky bastard, playing games for a degree This is very helpful indeed, you got what I was after. Would you also be so kind and answer my other questions? I have a list, you see

I thought it might have been easier to post them here, but then again I'm also asking some personal stuff (I'm not sure what you folks want to shout here outloud.) so I decided I'm gonna do this privately. The experiences are very important and yours was actually a great example of such.

I did my MBA thesis on PC/video games, having the good fortune to have a professor letting me do that for credits. I don't really understand karma, but I think it'd be appropriate to help you with some honest feedback.  Please send me any survey or requests from me via PM.

I'm posting here to declare my support, but I do suggest to OP nodice and to all participants to respond privately. Although I don't know the details of the thesis, I believe we will introduce bias if we talk too much about our views in a public thread. It'd be optimal to talk to OP nodice via private messages first, then perhaps the final collected results and analysis could be shared publically after the study is complete.

Hi nodice, I'm not sure if they will support, but you should contact Bioware (assuming you haven't already). Not for permission, but to see if the writers would be interested in helping you out. We ourselves did that with large software firms and found they usually put us in contact with a representative who'd at least email us once.

So are you studying social impact of games? A really interesting topic. My degree is in literature, so I'm interested in how the literary and pop culture interact. Like I think that games as deep as BioWare's deserve to be put in a middle category between visual entertainment and literature.

This is my fear exactly. This is also why I'd rather not speak of the research questions either. Thank you Zombie Chow! I will be messaging to all of you volunteers soon, you're the best! Take your time with the questions, I have no hurry (though my professor might disagree).

And I probably will contact Bioware, if they have time for me. I'm quite sceptic.

Addai, well I'm studying mainly the sexual and romantic content of the actual game, but now it seems that my thesis will be more and more about the community creations, since they (you) are so fascinating. So kinda yes.

Mel_Redux, haha, sorry dudette. If it's any consolation I'm freaking out here Even though the subject is so yummy I'm starting to realize this is hard work. Especially everything about it
