I remember reading somewhere that there was a way to modify your characters appearence while in game, by modifying a save file or something of that sort, however these forums Search Function can't find anything, and my basic look over of the first few pages yielded no results, so here I am.
Anyone know exactly how you can change your characters appearence in game? And if there are any risks involved?
How to change appearence in game?

You can, you'll need the toolset to do it.
Assuming you already know your way around it:
Start by creating your morph then save it wherever you can get easy access to it (Desktop is fine). Save it using any name you want e.g. "filename.mrh"
After that goto Tools > Export > Post to local. Then minimize the toolset. Rename the .mrh file on your desktop to "hm_filename.mrh". The two letter "hm" will change based on which race and gender you're changing. So hm for human male, ef for elf female .e.t.c
Find the .mor file in your Documents//BioWare//Dragon Age//Packages//core//override/toolsetexport and copy that as well as your .mrh file to your MainDAfolder//Modules//single player//override
Bring the toolset back up and open the save game you want to edit. Saves will be in your Documents//BioWare//Dragon Age//Character//charactername folder. The file you want to open will end in .das
Once it's opened click the + sign next to SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR, SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR_CHAR, then SAVEGAME_APPEARANCE. Change the SAVEGAME_APPEARANCE_MORPH_NAME Value field to hm_filename (whichever filename you used) without adding any extension.
Save the savegame and rename or delete the Single Player folder in your Documents//BioWare//Dragon Age//modules folder.
Start up the game, load up your save and your new face should be there.
