THere's also the problem of speed of language. I don't know how much speeds differ between Czech and English, but the speed of Spanish speakers is the last true barrier for me having a complete ability to listen to and speak SPanish.

I agree with you almost completely and sympathize with you, but I honestly think the 1984 comparison is a bit extreme. It's not like EA is trying to make the entire world uniform English, and if they were, a lot more translations would have been cut.

I think he's just saying that we should try to facilitate speakers of numerous languages as opposed to expecting everyone to accept the English norm.  I didn't see any indication of him saying EA is trying to accomplish some fascist agenda.

Oh yeah? In my country you'll have to learn atleast 3 languages. I speak 4, and english is my 3rd language. Despite that, I have no problem watching english movies

I get your point. But in my opinion its always best to view, read or play something in the language it was created in. It's not about advertising a universal language, its about getting the most out of something. A translation is always second best. It even boils down to the different accents being used by the voiceovers, although I fail to understand why some Krogan sports a southern drawl.

The speed of czech is almost same as the speed of english, but czech is a lot more complicated. Because of that, czech people don't have much trouble with learning english because it seems very simple and easy to us.

i feel sorry for u man, i can't imagine how that feels, i heard some game was vocalize in 23 languages, wish all games were like that, the small things makes the biggest difference.

Look at it this way:

You can see it as being bothersome and irritating, but you can also see it as a fun learning experience instead of later having to cram the english language.



In the Netherlands we (almost) never get a localized game, but we have % wise the most gamers per pop. in the entire European continent.



Don't complain, just learn the language. It will help you in so much more ways other than just gaming, and you can learn it while gaming, what more would you want? Besides, your english seems to be on such a level that it's very easy to learn more just by gaming in english and watching movies in english.

Anyhow, hi there Martin, my name is Martin too and I'm from Poland. First of all this is most likely a question to EA, if not it's Czech branch then to the whole company, as usualy developers have absolutely NO power over translations and localizaitons, sometimes they don't even know how it looks in the end... that's probobly why  the localisations usualy end up being compleate rubbish. It's a common thing nowdays. For example L.A Noir from Rockstar won't be localised in most of the world and Rockstar openly addmited that it's because they don't want their product gimped with a horrible attempt at translation. I can't speak about your version because I have never seen it and probobly wouldn't understand most of it (I can understand a bit fron the language as it's pretty much similar) but with our localisation it was the case - orginal VO and dialogule got compleatly destroyed by horrible translation and voices (I don't know why because we do have some really good voice actors and VO studios here, seems they were just too expensive for EA Poland).

This makes sense especialy with Mass Effect franchise where world class actors are hired for voice acting and it's a big part of the game's budget - there's no point in paying so much for voice over if someone is going to screw it up with bad casting and horrible translation. Honestly - it will only do you better to play the game in it's orginal state, that's the way the devs wanted it to be. I don't want to sound like an ass because I'm not trying to insult you in any way - but getting better at english can only do you good in the future.

That's what the localisation team is responsible for, properly localising the game not only includes translating and recording the dialogue but work on pacing, and modyfing the game so dialogues are not cut, not to mention lipsync... at least that's what it should include.

tl;dr - Most likely it's not because EA hates you and your country, it's because they want to be sure their products are released in the state they wanted them to be - not worst.

You all are right, I can play games in original (and I often play) but....you know, If I (I mean middle Europe) don't worth for translation, EA don't worth for buying their games. They said that there's small game market, but If they don't do translations there will be 60-80% decrease. I know that EA don't care but I care and I can do nothing with it. Our biggest game seller (xzone.cz) coperating with czech dragon age community have asked/beg EA for texts ( It was before releasing DA 2. ) from the game, because then community can make fan-translation (which are sometimes better then original). I think that they didn't even answer but If they did, that they said no.

P.S.:Yes I know that I should write to EA and I have written to them a few mails and posted topic on their forums....no response, so I thought, that here, in big community, can someone see my topic and answer.

oh dear lord....

no, German is (big suprise) a germanian language. Czech on the other hand is a slavic language (like for example Russian.

edit:
though i am german myself, I'm a big fan of the czeck country. It's a shame they don't get a ME3 version of their own, especially if there had been before...

You know...If EAs last word is that won't be czech translation I would be please If they at least lended to us texts from the game. We from czech mass effect community CAN do translation on our own and we will do it for FREE.

Not saying its the best way to learn English Sheldon, I suggested he learn English, never said through the game though. If he starts leaned English, he can then use the game to help him expose him to the language more. I did that when i was learning Italian, though it was with movies and it helped heaps

Being swedish I´m afraid I cannot relate, I however cant imagine reading swedish subtitles or fathom playing a game with swedish vocals. I get pissed and confused if the menus on my computer, phone, tv or ps3 isnt in english. It always feel second rate and cheap for some reason, like I got the "light" version because I´m an uncivilized savage.

I understand you wish to hold on to the individualism you´ve got, but I´m afraid you´ll just have to accept that as we progress into a global society more and more things will be in english. Atleast you seem to understand it which is not the case for all.

For that matter, is there even a country in europe that doesnt teach english as a secondary language? It would seem kind of cruel and contribute to seclution from the world.

That's your opinion...

It's not an opinion.. it's a fact.. there are different gamers from many different countries, who have to play games that are not translated in their native language.. adapt..
