No, heck no to power-ranger and random-shooter style armor. Sorry those examples are ridiculous for a good looking game like Mass Effect. Even Shepard's armor was better. Please no more "$RANDOM_COMPANY IX" armor.

How did you guys liked Liara's armor in shadow broker (seemed thick, flexible and had style) if some kind of head protection were added?

It looks like armor, and therefore I'm satisfied. Now if only everyone else had some...

Battle labcoat. :o

(Don't get me wrong, it's the best female "outfit" in ME2, save for Tali's)

Although i really like the way armor works in ME1 i understand a lot of other people don't. Is it really just me that feels like equipping your team with armor and weapons with different stats is a big part of an RPG? I know ME is supposed to be a mix of RPG and a shooter but i feel ME2 went a bit too far in the shooter direction, i guess that's a matter of taste though.

At the very least having a separate outfit for combat would be nice if people really thinks inventory management is such a hassle.

I call those not wanting to deal with inventory just lazy.  Strictly my opinion though.  I don't expect everyone to see eye to eye on everything.  If they didn't have their diversity this would be a boring world.

I'd take the "Sift Through Inventory" minigame over the "Probe Uranus" minigame any day.

I agree 100%. I spent hours hunting for rare armors in ME1 and I liked every minute of it.

Yes bring back in game rare armor hunts and maybe also your LI can give you rare armor too?

personally I didn't like hunting for rare armors mini game (I hate when RNG takes over to the point of me just wanting to give up and console it) and I liked the probing uranus game. sifting through legions of armors was somewhat annoying and tedious but not having any armor options for your squad is worse.

personally, I like the sort of armor specialization that shepard gets in ME2, only allow it fro squadies and add more choices (having 6-7 different stat boosters to chose from for every slot, just without the whole 1 through 10 mechanic) make it look personalized by all means. but it must cover the body and it must have a helm that seals the suit completely against hazardous enviroments

I'm not sure what people mean by "rare armour hunts". Exploration was somewhat limited in ME1, it's not like you can find a hidden enclave in a rockfront of an uncharted world, and there will be a cool item there.

Loot distributed seemed to be totally random relative to level. The Mass Effect 2 system is much better.

Most likely referring to the Colossus and Predator L/M/H armors. If you were trying to outfit your whole crew in them it would take a long time if you didn't exploit shopkeeper restocking.

Battle labcoat, great definition. It looks good though and is certanly Liaras style. A matching helmet for nasty places like the stormy upper atmosphere of a alien planet would of course make it even better.

Correct me if I am wrong, but apart from the quest in BDtS all armor showed up randomly. That's not what I would call a "hunt"

ME1 armor were stat-sticks. Could not differentiate one model from the other. In my homeworld we call that "boring".

The combat labcoat is the better approach that seems to make almost everyone happy.

I like the mods from ME1, particulary the ammo mods. If I was going against a bunch of Geth in an area, I'd equip everyone with armor piercing rounds without wasting squad points that could be better spent on abilities. That being said, I do prefer the armor customization of ME2 though I wish I could customize the whole squad. To me, it was too much of a pain to try to find an upgrade for, let's say, Garrus just because he needed TURIAN armor and all the stuff I had was better but for humans. It's almost as frustrating as looking for one item in FFCC from one boss in the longest level with the lowest drop rate. For being the minority in the galaxy, there sure were a heck of a lot of human specific gear.

The lack of armors in ME2 is just one example of the dumbing down of this series to appeal to a wider yet more shallow audience. EA/Bioware is turning what started out as a serious Sci-Fi RPG into a run of the mill action-shooter with RPG elements sprinkled here and there. From reading some of the comments by the people defending this decision it seems the dumbing down has worked.

Essentially, one of the main target audience for Mass Effect 2 (and essentially what EA wants with their multiplayer gimmicks) were people like this guy. Now, warranted this is a comedy scenario, I'd just like to point out that I have in fact met people like that. They were annoying.

Fully support a complete squad management of armor, equipment, weapons, mods and so on, we need an improvement over ME1 not the complete removal of features that made sense and added an extra to customization.

Has any word come out of how ME3 is gonna deal with this aspect?

No word's come out on how ME3 gonna deal with nothing yet. Maybe next month, after the GDC they'll start leaking something.

Reallistically, I'd expect they'll have unmanageable unique armors and unique casual clothes for every squadmate. That will include all the ridiculous stuff like Ashley's pink armor, battle labcoats, etc. Not much improvement to my taste, but it'll still be something. Full helmets vs. "breahter" crap is going to determine if it's a pass, or an epic fail again.

So this topic is kinda important.

FULL HELMETS in ME3!!!

Thanks Zulu, it would be great in the near future if Bioware released some videos giving details over this, its a major game aspect for me.

Full helmets all the way in combat and great cat suits in the Normandy or "relaxed" areas.

I figure I'll throw my two cents in.

1. In battle, armor doesn't seem to be all that effective. I mean, poor Jenkins get hit by a Geth probe and drops like a rock. I highly doubt unshielded armor would stand up to any amount of high velocity gunfire like the weapons of the ME universe are capable of putting out.

2. In hostile environments, a protective suit would of course be preferable. Of course, there aren't a whole lot of hostile environments in vanilla ME2. Maybe 3-4. So I don't see Bioware changing up its "unique outfit" vision for a few parts of the game.

3. Some characters just wouldn't look right in armor. For example:

Mordin: A scientist. While he may have had special forces training, he seems more at home at a lab table than in the heat of battle.

Thane: A master assassin. How exactly is he supposed to be sneaking through ventilation shafts in bulky armor?

Miranda: Much like Mordin, she doesn't strike me as much of a fighter. She's a coordinator. She seems like she should be sitting behind a console and guiding Shepard and co through whatever ship or base they are invading. That being said, in combat, I imagine her to be more of a secret agent than anything else. More James Bond than space marine.

Tali: Isn't wearing any armor. Its weird that she isn't mentioned much in these threads. She wasn't wearing armor in ME1 either. Just an environmental suit.

Kasumi: She is a master thief and infiltrator. It would be silly to see her in full battle armor.

Everyone else: I see no reason why they wouldn't be wearing armor. I'm purposely leaving Jack out because she is just silly looking all around.

Now, having said all this, ME3 should have unique outfits for all squad members, much like ME2, but also have a separate unique "armor/suit" outfit that players can switch them to if they so choose. Basically, something like the regular costume/loyalty costume we have now, but the armor/suit would be available from the get go as an alternate costume.

Cutscene death ignores HP, armor, shields and pretty much everything else.
No armor can keep you perfectly safe. But being abel to surive 2-3 hits more is a hUGE difference in battle.

Then he shouldn't going out to the battlefield in the first place.

Thane: A master assassin. How exactly is he supposed to be sneaking through ventilation shafts in bulky armor?

Not much sneaking going around in the game.
Not to mention light armor...

She's a coordinator and leader. People like that wear armor too when on the front lines.

Etc...
