Why squadmates need proper armor with HELMETS

In ME2 the only way to measure armor effectiveness is to look at the health bar (unless you're on Kasumi's loyalty mission, in which case *you didn't see anything*), as not every enemy with armor has a health bar (heck, not every enemy with shields has a shield bar). They abstracted the damage system way too much for my tastes, but at least the codex says that in-world armor functions as well as it did in ME1.

No word's come out on how ME3 gonna deal with nothing yet. Maybe next month, after the GDC they'll start leaking something.MoonChildTheUnholy wrote...
Has any word come out of how ME3 is gonna deal with this aspect?
Reallistically, I'd expect they'll have unmanageable unique armors and unique casual clothes for every squadmate. That will include all the ridiculous stuff like Ashley's pink armor, battle labcoats, etc. Not much improvement to my taste, but it'll still be something. Full helmets vs. "breahter" crap is going to determine if it's a pass, or an epic fail again.
So this topic is kinda important.
FULL HELMETS in ME3!!!
Very true. I'm hoping after the release of DA2 and the GDC that information on ME3 will start to trickle down to us. This is indeed an important topic. Especially when you consider that ME3 will most likely be one war zone after another. Some in space, some on the ground. I imagine ME3 will have a load of heavy fighting as well.

And if the game was realistic, characters like Miranda and Mordin, Tali and heck, even ME1 Liara wouldn't be in the field fighting. You don't see Chakwas fighting, do you?
Edit: I'd also like to point out that cutscene deaths and story deaths are the only "true" deaths (Not sure if true is the right word there, honestly) since they ignore arbitrary gameplay mechanics.

And people often underestimate space.Phaedon wrote...
I am not disagreeing with this. I wouldn't mind Bioware coming up with an explanation that isn't a retcon, though. And how did they die? Sci-fi often overestimates vacuum.
It isn't complete vacuum, it is has a degree of infintismally thin light gasses, leftovers from the creation of stars, if you will, but no matter how scarce the matter is, it's still matter, and due to the kinetic theory, that matter would suck the heat out of anything, destroying organic tissue. or, you know, fry it due to intense amounts of unshielded radiation. as for the colony? the shields that went down werent the kinetic barriers your squadmates and you wear, they were radiation shields, to- you know, shield from radiation ships, some space stations, and colonies with scant atmospheric protection use these, but not EV personel

Uh, she is wearing armor. She's wearing light armor. The suit is even designed to be able to withstand combat scenarios in the exact same fashion as light armor does, only it's specialized towards Quarian physiology with its ability to seal off sections of the suit and apply antibiotics.Zanallen wrote...
Tali: Isn't wearing any armor. Its weird that she isn't mentioned much in these threads. She wasn't wearing armor in ME1 either. Just an environmental suit.
Kasumi wears light armor as well.Zanallen wrote...
Kasumi: She is a master thief and infiltrator. It would be silly to see her in full battle armor.

Oh please, both of them are wearing what basically amounts to skin tight suits that offer practically no combat utility. According to the wiki, only medium to heavy armors are classified as hardsuits, meaning that their "light armors" have no ceramic plating. Their outfits look little more protective than Miranda's and seem about as thick as a wetsuit.

Team mates need to wear armor because simply EVERYONE IN THE GAME BUT THEM IS WEARING ARMOR IN COMBAT. What did they get some kind of special memo that qualifies armor as useless?
QFT.
The Blue Suns and Eclipse mercs even wear FULL HELMETS in urban environment & INDOORS!!!

Seeker Swarms. Stupid, stupid seeker swarms. From the cut scenes it is obvious that the seeker swarms need exposed flesh or lightly clothed areas to be effective, and would be rendered completely useless if you, oh, I don't know, ACTUALLY WEAR STANDARD ISSUE ARMOR! Mordin could've saved God knows how many work hours and Samara could've helped you kick Harbinger's ass on the Collectors' base if you all wore ARMOR! Like you did in ME1!
Sad but true.
Not to mention I finally played LotSB recently and found it ridiculous that Liara and however else you bring up (with the exception of Garrus and Tali) are walking on top of that ship as if they are on a beach resort.
And the SB troops are fully armored with helmets.
= facepalm

I guess the first Mass Effect was full of lies then, seeing as Tali's armors are all classed as Light Armor. Not to mention that Shepard wears Light Armor as well in that game.

I mean we watch movies all the time where a character is being shot at by 20 guys with not one single piece of kevlar on...personally I like Miranda/Jacob's attires as they come off as what they are meant field operatives...it would be better without the big Cerberus logo on them, without those they'd look like people who work on a starship just walking around town which is the idea...which I personally like.
I was really happy with Garrus's alternate appearance i'd been after some non destroyed armor...Grunt's new appearance has grown on me and is easily one of my favorite looks as I didn't much care for his other armor either...I could live without the visors over the eyes but the chin guard I really dig alot.
Also to note they all have shields...which is more then people today so i'd feel a lot more confident rollin' through town wearing a spandex suit knowing I have shields that A. give me time to get into cover before someone could kill me and B. Recharge
Anyways just my two cents on the matter...I really wish the helmets would disappear during cutscenes. Personally I like having a N7 helmet on during combat, but hate how its still on during cinematics. So bioware if you could do away with the helmets during cinematics thatd be great...leave the visors just make it so that the helmets disappear.

All these guys are basically elite professionals, funded by an ultra-rich, galaxy-spanning syndicate, of which they represent the head of its miltary arm. Their Commander gets multiple set and pieces of sophisticated, custom gear with unlimited replacements and maintenance... They themselves have their own considerable backgrounds and resource networks... need we go on??Rhayth wrote...
I like how everyone gets hung up on this idea of characters like jacob, Samara, Miranda, Thane etc etc wearing regular clothing during firefights...when this happens everyday all over the world. Not everyone who wields a gun is rocking a full military set up of clothing.
... About the helmets, sure, I personally can probably accept having less-than-ideal combat helmets, but even a retarded-looking glass dome would be better than what most of these guys have right now.

Uh... if you'd actually been reading the complaints properly, you'd realise that more people are concerned about the fact that these guys are exploring space in outfits that completely expose their base skin to the various elements than are concerned about battle-related issues. It's all very well to point to modern combat all over the world, but these people aren't just fighting "all over the world"; they're fighting all across the galaxy. What they're doing in ME2 makes about as much sense as Neil Armstrong popping out of his lunar landing in some PJs and touching down to say, "that's one small step for man..." through a breather mask.
