Seems Dragon Age II will be released at the same time as the PC version! http://gametreemac.c...agon-age-2-mac

I know - I was sooooo shocked when I saw on Insidemacgames.com that DA2 was going to have a same-day release as the Windows version.
I see at least 2 reasons for this - 1) EA decided that DAOMac sales were sufficiently strong to warrant also giving the CIder treatment for DA2. 2) Bioware themselves wanted it, and had enough money left over in their DA2 budget to pay for Ciderizing. I'm personally going to lean towards the first option.

Do you get the Black Emporium by pre-ordering at GameTree? On EA's site the case art shows WINMAC DVDROM.
Which would be better?
Edit: Nevermind, it is listed at the bottom of the page...

Hrm perhaps I was a bit quick to order from gametreemac.com then. Oh well, digital download suits me anyway.

I hope, its a WinMac-DVD this time, i don't want to download 2 days again..
And I hope, it stops crashing all the time when it is a DVD-Version.

Cidering must be cheap then, I'm genuinely surprised they make another Mac version. I strongly believed DA:O for Mac would've been a huge loss, not because of the smaller playerbase, but because of the non-existent advertising. I know quite a few people who ran DA:O in Bootcamp and had no idea there was a Mac version too, I thought most of the Mac world was oblivious it existed (I've personally never seen the Mac version mentioned anywhere but on these boards).
That said, I'd rather see them all appear as Steam Play games, same with NWN2 etc. The Windows versions are available on Steam, Mac has Steam, the Mac versions exist but few people buy them (last but not least due to the horrible overpricing), so why not just treat us fair and let us have both via Steam or something?

I learned of DA:O Mac through Inside Mac Games, iirc. But I don't know how many people follow it. If DA2 does have a Mac/PC DVD, then IMO it's a good chance it'll have SteamPlay as well. EA haven't really announced anything about this though, only Game Tree Mac has made it public (perhaps they're allowed to have the preorders exclusive for a while?)

“There is no Mac Steam version…yet.” guess I was wrong... but dual platfrom DVD confirmed. Also “Dragon Age II runs better on the Mac than Dragon Age: Origins.”

Ugh, while this is great news I now need to figure out how to change my amazon.com preorder from the PS3 version to the Mac version. Any ideas?

Question for anyone who might be able to answer this one: I played DA:O on my Mac, but under a Boot Camp partition running XP. I preordered the PC version of DA2, so if the Mac version comes on the same disc, I'd prefer to install it over on the Mac side. Question, though: would I still be able to import from my Windows gamesaves if I did that?

I think the save files are found in one of the dragon age folders and all you would need to do i copy and transfer those files to the mac partition. I'm not too sure about that though.

I'm hoping that's the case. I already did make backup copies of my DA:O files over on the Mac partition, so they'd be sitting somewhere relatively isolated if Windows ever decided to blow up or I had issues with the DA install, so I can always give that a whirl.....

Everybody talks about the Steam version. I played "Half-life" on Mac Steam a while back (because thatt was the only version available), but that was my only encounter with it.
I know how Steam works, but what exactly would be the advantages of a Steam version vs. a "standalone" version of DA2? Sorry for the nooby question...

What would really be nice is if they wrote the game engine native on MacOS X - using core animation or something rather than using a "virtual windows" environment.
As I recall, DAO PC ran faster in Parellels than the Mac version did <sigh>.

I think this might not be cider actually. In interviews it sounded like they did it in-house, and that they claim it runs better than Origins points to that as well, but I'm in no way certain.
Edit: IMG states it's cider. *shrug*
The advantages of Steam is that it's you skip the install step, it updates automatically and you get social functions. You can also remove and redownload games on several computers without keeping any DVD/disk image. The disadvantages is that it usually is slow to login to steam and you'll be tied to their DRM. YMMV.

Thanks, Jhime. Regarding cider, I have to say that I have had (almost) no speed/performance issues since patch 1.04. (on a late 2008 MBP)
