Will we be able to change companions' clothing like in DAO?

I recall from somewhere that we won't be able to change the clothing of our characters - something which deeply disappoints me and I am hoping that it won't be true. I actually want to give Isabela some trousers and Merrill some nicer-looking robes. I also want to deck out Aveline in heavy armor instead of the peasant fare that she currently appears in.

Will we be able to change our companions' clothing?

Nope.

It's like Mass effect 2. Sorry.

Companion armor is set (Aveline does get heavy armor-check out the combat video or the developer diary on Story for looks at it). You can still change your own outfits though.

Well, I guess it's up to the modders then!

No, most companions will wear the same thing for the entire game, while a few will change clothes automatically between time jumps

Ohh lord... not this again... but the answer to the question is NO. It appears from the last podcast that the companions outfits may or not upgrade over time during the 10 year period the game takes place in. You can however change Hawke's outfit as much as you want/whenever you want. There are some screenies  of Aveline in 2 different sets of armor...which one of them it appears Hawke will also be able to equip...

What will they wear when they're washing their one set of clothes, I wonder?

Maybe they all do their laundry in the nude.

You will be able to equip you companions with amulets, rings and belts. They don't change your companion's appearance, but they will improve their stats.

Will there be recolors or different iterations of apparel appearance for our companions?

Meaning, yeah Isabela has her pirate outfit [yar] is that all she has? or at some point will she gain an outfit that looks different, a la ME2 and getting them loyal?

I would assume their outfits change after the time jumps in the game's story.

You'd assume wrong.

Only a few companions will change clothes. The rest will wear the exact same thing for 10 years. Here:

One thing I wasn't too clear on, listening to the podcast: Mike said the companions will change equipment at points throughout the game and get upgrades so they won't be stuck in starter gear for the whole game. Does this mean their equipment will also change visually? Or are they going to basically wear the same outfit for a decade? Clarification would be appreciated.

Some may, but that is more the exception rather than the rule. Their equipment, however, will evolve over time from a statistical point of view, as will your access to upgrades. Apologies for the confusion.

I really think them not changing clothes over 10 years is pretty crazy. Can you imagine what they smell like. Really though, in ME, they wore uniforms. It's very different than the same pirate garb. We know that those in the military have several of the same uniforms but a pirate with the same pirate clothes, over 10 years, that makes no sense at all.

Tell that to anyone on a cartoon.

Wow. I hope for Isabela's sake that you don't have to go anywhere cold and snowy.

And they totally do not eat, drink or defecate either! Do they even breathe?

I'm so on the "give Isabela some pants" modding bandwagon. Seriously, that clothing is not suitable attire for fighting. Or standing around in, for that matter.

Actually, their in game appearance sometimes will change as the plot demands it. Aveline's appearance from when you first meet her is different than when you speak to her later on in the game (where she is wearing a completely different set of armor). But these are more the exceptions than the norm.

What isn't clear is the extent to which we can change their stats.

The static outfits don't have fixed stats themselves (they change over time), and you can also upgrade them manually.

But we don't know how much of an upgrade is possible.  Earlier developer statements suggested that our ability to change clothing-based defensive stats was comparable to DAO, which would make the fixed outfits in DA2 purely aesthetic.

i think you're interpreting that wrong (though admittedly, it is worded funny). to me, that reads as
-" Or are they going to basically wear the same outfit for a decade?"
-"Some may, but that is more the exception rather than the rule."

I think, that if anyone is playing the PC version, then we wait for the modders to fix it. (If they can.)

The rune system is still in isn't it? An evolution of Origins system, where you add runes to companions armor to upgrade the stats, but not the appearance. It was mentioned at the same time as the amulets, rings and belts before.

If that was, in fact, the part of Anarya's post the Mike was responding to, then wearing the same outfit is the exception to the rule. as in, the rule is most of the companions will change clothing, though there are exceptions.

When I am doing a pure rp playthrough I make sure to do all of these for my character.
