Generally i think im not too bothered about this. TBH I had fears that any other armours you would have gotten to give to them to upgrade their stats would have been aesthetically inferior to their original garb anyway. Eg. Morrigan in DAO. Her base outfit is badass (could have done with a hooded variant), and nothing else for mages even comes close to looking as good. With the result that she stays looking like that with no stat upgrades on armour for the entire game.

I can only hope the personal armour variants for Hawke look as cool and badass as his base starting armour that we've seen in the fighting video demos.

Well, Mike's quote doesn't explicitly state which one is the exception and which one is the rule. Based purely off the wording of Anarya's quote and Mike's response, it can work either way (outfit changes, or stat only changes being the rule).

@Soul Reaver yeah, I can see it being read either way really, especially since it was one answer to a question being asked two different ways. hopefully we can get a clearer (is that a word? more clear?) response on this.

I have to say I like the choice they went with. Like ME2 it makes them their own person in a way.

The only downside is I can't get Fenris or Varric naked D=

Still don't like this choice at all.

Can't wait for the day the Bioware auto level ups companions, and doesn't allow us to switch to them because they are their own people. Like this travesty, it'll probably be met with thunderous applause.

Oh, wait, they kinda did.  It's called Mass Effect 2.

As long as none of them are wearing tatoos and belt-bras in the icy dark vacuum of space, i will be fine.

You do realise that DAO actually had auto-levelling whereas ME2 had it as an option you can turn off?

I was able to level the companions how I wanted in ME2.

I think he was refering to the fact you can't assume direct control of your party members in both mass effect games, not the auto leveling

This will just make clothing mods all the more fun...

Though the usual fare will be pointless, in Isabela's case.

Given that each companion now has a unique model, it might also make clothing mods vastly more difficult to create.

MMMMM...

aside for a solely aestetic point of view the lack of customizable clothing changes nothing and one of the most acclaimed RPGs out there handled it exactly the same way

Bioware should not be encouraged or applauded to make their games reskinned versions of Mass Effect, and I won't do it, nor can I get how anyone could.

A lot of people don't even quantify Mass Effect 2 as a RPG in the first place, but that's a discussion you can take to PM with me.

Everyone, I remember David Gaider mentioning that yes you can't just change the companions' clothes all the time but there will be points in the game where you can upgrade it and possible change it once or twice over the decade period. Don't fret too much, Bioware hasn't said that much regarding clothing in general so don't jump to conclusions about NEVER changing your companions' clothing.

It just won't be like in DA:O where you could make everyone wear whatever you want.

A game which was, in my opinion, quite bad.

Actually the way that you wrote it implied that ME2 didn't let you assume direct control and autoleveled up companions. I

You all realize that this game is in a fantasy setting and things like changing clothes, going to the bathroom, all that stuff is something that should not matter so much in a game that does not take place in the real world. Besides, if we do want to be realistic, in the medieval period and the renaissance people bathed very little and most people did not have the kind of money to own multiple sets of clothing. Most of the time they wore very similar things everyday.
