.....who is dumb enough to play poker with Isabela?????????????

also

I still would love to know exactly WHY people are this upset about it aside for the fact that they will not be able to play dressup

Because it's a part of the game that we enjoy.  It's also another move away from the whole Baldur's Gate style that some of us really still latch on to.

no, that is not an answer. WHY are you going to miss being able to switch armors at will? simply because you "could" do so?

My wish has been unpopular, but it is the one I could live with considering what we have. I don't mind that Bioware wants certain costumes to keep characters unique and brandable. I would be perfectly fine if I could equip my static looking companion rogue in any light armor for the stats and he/she would look the same with their Bioware costume. I want to equip my companion warrior an any heavy armor I find for the stats and set bonus.

I don't care that much about the realism vs the alternative of not being able to equip them at all.

What this leads to is opening up another can of worms. If you can't equip your companions with sets of armor and all kinds of awesome weapons, it likely means there will be much less items overall. I'm not talking about rusty short swords and elfroot, I mean much less item sets, and magical trinkets to add variety on how you can not only equip companions, but your own character.

you can still change their weapons, Avelione has been seen with no less than 4 sets of swords, more if you include DLC items

For some it is something to do, a game within the game. They might equip their companion rogue in all the +archery and +damage stuff they can find, another time, it might appeal to them to give their same rogue companion tons of energy regen or plus dodge. You may not find that fun, or think it is even important, but others do enjoy that.

no, it isn't just because they could. There really is no reason to be dimissive, people enjoy little things like this that add new dimensions to replays. If you don't enjoy that, your gameplay would still never be affected if others could do so.

Why shouldn't I miss it? I thought it was fun. I know some folks dismiss it as just "dress up" but it was fun. I enjoyed the level of customasation of the party that it allowed you.

let me approach this another way

say that they removed all the AOE attacks from two hander warriors I would say I'd be disappointed, if someone asked me why I would not say "because I liked it" I would say "because now my warrior is half as effective hence I miss it"..obviously I already know you did like the feature, if you did not then you would not be complaining, what I want to know is WHY you will miss it aside for a purely aestetic point of view.

you do realize right that you CAN still agument your companions right? you still can upgrade their vestments with nre, better versions of themselves and rune slots.......as well as stat boosting and skill boosting amulets, gifts, belts, rings (and earrings it seems),  necklaces, runes and what not. The only thing you cannot gear up is their clothes yet you still can say give to Varric every single archery and dexterity boosting item to make him your perfect damage turret (for instance)

so...once we have established stat and skill customization is still there was DOES remain that was lost by the lack of full clothing customization? Ah yes...the visual aspect

Because the aesthetic part of gameplay to some people. The playing dress up was fun simply for playing dress up.

What's wrong with aesthetics? Aesthetics are a big part of gaming.

@crimsontearz, some of us take great care in clothing. For example, when I play DAO I collect all of the clothing that I can. Whenever I'm in cities or houses, I change people to clothing and keep weapons on the second weapon set with the "/" such as a dagger. In the wilderness, I put everyone in their appropriate armor. It takes a lot of extra space in my inventory and time to keep switching things around, but it's something that I enjoy.

I'll use Mass Effect as an example. I loved the outfits in ME2. However, it is a bit game-breaking for me when Jack is so under-dressed. That's why I don't use her in space environments (if at all). It's fine when she's in a city. She's a biotic and doesn't need to be restricted by some heavy armor like Garrus, which are my exact sentiments on mages and their robes.

That said, we're not crossing through space in DA2 so it might be able to get away with it more. I'm just hoping that if I go visit Aveline in her home, she's in her leather apron attire instead of her armor. If all characters have their armor for battles, and clothes for when they're in a more social setting (or unprepared for a battle), then I'll be a very happy camper.

I don't even mind not being able to change their clothing for myself if they would just have something for fighting and something for more social moments. For instance, I'll use Aveline again. If she's a romance option for anyone, I don't want to see her pull an Isabela-romance and leap onto Hawke in her plate. I just want location or situations to make sense.

I have faith right now even if we can't choose the outfits there will be some situation change. I believe I read Lukas write the example of Aveline fleeing Lothering. Aveline is so under-dressed while fleeing Lothering perhaps because she was caught off guard and didn't have time to put on armor, but then in Kirkwall at some point she changes to armor. I feel like we can at least expect a degree of understandable situation-caused armor or clothing changed. Maybe not as much as me changing the outfits for every social encounter or walk through a city like in Origins, but I don't feel right now that I'll be disappointed.

I do actually like the outfits that we have seen. I'm clinging onto a hope for some variation throughout the game at some certain points that could be a bit foolish, but we'll see. I certainly won't hate the game for a lack of armor or clothing customization. I'm far more interested in the story. Armor and clothing changes are merely an extra little perk that I enjoy.

EDIT: I do love unique models because it will help the characters stand out, and that is a good thing. It would just be nice if they had a unique set of armor and a unique set of clothing for walking around their house in, etc.

Part of the rational that i have seen is that it allows them to create more powerful and unique visual identities.

Well if you look at DA:O all the bodies are the same head down for each races so the rational does have merit.

yes Aestetics are great part of the gaming experience BUT the tradeoff of allowing every single companion to wear any possible armor and clothing piece is that all companions need to have the same body mesh which is what the devs wanted to avoid in order to give unique looking companions as opposed to "everyone looks identical but with a different head screwed on".

also, Blastback, if aestetics is crux of this issue for you then (or playing dressup for the sake of being able to) then there is no need to drag this any further

In now way shape or form will I argue that the static outfit approach is "wrong". It comes down to what the indivdual prefers.
Edit: sorry, it came off like you hadn't seen that as signifigant reason Crimson.

I never disputed that some ME2 outfits made no sense......also I always said that some DA2 ourfits made no sense either

Static outfits are good under an immersion point of view solely if they make sense (which sometimes Bioware seems to forget) I am merely arguing under a gameplay point of you and apparently the biggest complainers seem to be hang up solely on the "I am going to miss it just because I can't do it anymore"
