Will we be able to change companions' clothing like in DAO?

Because it's a roleplaying game and customization is part of what you expect from an RPG. Not just stats and leveling, but with Origins you also got a hand in shaping the characters and their development roleplay-wise. The visual was part of that.crimzontearz wrote...
no, that is not an answer. WHY are you going to miss being able to switch armors at will? simply because you "could" do so?
PC players will presumably at least be able to mod and morph. That's something. I guess.

nope, I totally understand, I just do not see reason to argue about it. As long as you recognize that gameplay-wise your options are not diminished (in a tactical sense ) I am all good. The fact that you will miss the Aestetic part is fine and dandy I am sorry for you. Yes I can totally Empathize with you since, for instance, I lost NG+ as a feature in DA2 -even tho according to the devs they were trying to implement it- and I know I will miss it even tho others just do not see it as a loss

^ This is what I was answering. What you call "dressup" is actually a task that I do to make scenes unfold in a more realistic fashion (as I perceive it). I usually keep my party in clothes while inside the camp, which leads to events like the darkspawn attack making me feel caught off guard. This is exactly why I loved the Silverite Mines in Awakening, as well.
I do like the individual appearances of characters very much. I just hope for individuality and a bit of variety. I'll say it now, I'm definitely someone who will buy Alternate Appearances packs purely so that I can change outfits out from time to time so that, yes, everyone looks individual, but they also don't always look the same either.

no, that is what you expect from a CRPG. Full party customization is there because since the beginning the first CRPGs were based upon the pre-concept that in the translation from TT RPG and CRPG one had to make up for the fact that in TT RPGS there is a group of players behind you. In a CRPG (with very few exceptions) you are alone therefore were allowed to fully customize your party. In a straight TT RPG unless you have veritable influence and authority over NPCs your DM/ST should never allow you to dictate what they wear or what they use as a weapon
Since I come from a a looooooong time playing TT RPGs the presence of this particular feature is not something I feel necessary

I would imagine that most would like this approach. I am guessing that with BW going to unique body models in DA:2 forced them to reduce companion armor sets. In DA:O because they used a limited set of models they could create leather armor for example that worked with Leliana, Morrigan, and Wynne. The drawback in DA:O is that they all looked alike once put in the same armor.

It was explained a while back on the forums. Bioware had to create new rigs for the unique characters. With the way their game engine works, they must remain relatively static, or we are back to every pc and companion looking the same with a head stitched on top of identical models with the same man walk:) The new companion models don't have the ability to be customized piece by piece, they are sort of a all or nothing type of thing. I don't know how game engines work, but thats how I understood the explanation.
Anyways, I don't care at all about the appearance, I can live with the companions looking teh same for 10 years. All I wanted was the ability to use that elven armor set of awesomeness, and let me companion use it for the stats, even if it didn't change his or her looks.
I am not going to argue degrees of stat customization with people, and what is acceptable. I have my threshold, and others are different. It is not worth continuing a ****** for tat argument on subjective things.

It made her seem so...stagnant, compared to everyone else. I mean, if no one, including the player character, got a visual change for their armor, I would be fine, but the fact that anyone else could made her seem like 'oh, here's a character lacking a feature'. I ended up never using her in the games untill I got some sweet dlc robes that I could put on her to switch things up.
I'll probably like da2, but not the fact that they removed the ability to chance companions armors. I hope if they make a da3 they'll put that back in.
I understand WHY we can't change them, because they changed the models here and that means it's hard to program in new looks for them, but I hope they can get around that for the next game.

In DAO, I often liked dressing up all of my characters the same if possible so that they look like they are soldiers as part of a unit.
Hence, that is why I am mildly disappointed by the lack of such an option in DA2.
I know that BioWare is trying to make each character look as unique as possible, but I wouldn't mind if they went back to doing things like they used to in DAO and retaining the option of allowing the player to dress up the party members in whatever gear he/she wants.
If BioWare is really intent on allowing this new system to stay, then they should at least include (or sell) alternative costumes for our companions, a la ME2.

We know she changes once. Or at least, I've only seen her in 2 different outfits . . her leather apron, and plate armor.
So, that'd be one change over 10 years.

Does she have 2 suits of armor? As I said, I wasn't sure . . .I only remember the apron and armor. The devil is in the details.
And yes, you're right, obviously nobody is going around dressing their friends or co-workers on a regular basis - likely, not on any basis except the typical "which of these do you like better?" kind of things.
It's not a huge issue to me, personally. Really, my main problem at this point is with Isabela. I just really don't view her . . .costume (I can't call it armor, because, well, it isn't) as suitable for fighting in on a regular basis. So not being able to change that is just going to bother me a little bit throughout the game.

Oh yes because they really have the option to refuse if you make Zeveran wear plate armor or make Sten fight without Asala. Because I know for a fact Sten wouldn't give a damn if you walked up with the Sword of the Rivan King or the Sword of Shannara and told him "You know Sten this sword is much better then that one" because he considers Asala to be his soul...so he would never realisticly part with it if he had a choice in the matter.Kileyan wrote...

It is implied, you are likely very close friends or at the very least comrades in combat. It is part of the roleplaying you seem to be taking seriously. When you equip your companions, it isn't litterally you stripping them naked, debasing them, assaulting them. You are giving them better armor and equipment. Are we to the point now, that we must have a cutscene and dialog tree to talk them into wearing some armor?
Anyways, I am done, you are taking this a bit far, and acting as if we are assaulting people by offering them better equipment. I really don't know how to respond to it, let alone from the standpoint of arguing about an npcs very important rights to wear inferior equipment:)
