I do. I customised class and origins (because obviously I want to play the game my way) but I left the appearance alone because it seemed fine. I also left his name as John Shepard.
I started another one recently with all the appearance sliders scaled all the way to the bottom. He's black, with bright yellow hair. His name is Commander Shepard. (Yes, his name is Commander) And he just looks... wrong.
Do you use the default Shepard appearance?

I do, some people have done some really nice Shepards with the character creator but most Shep's don't look very good especially with how well designed the crew is in 2 it feels strange to see Shepard being the least detailed member of the crew.

I -always- use default Shepard

I use only a slightly modified version. I did a few things to make him look a bit more like 'me'---but only in the most unrealsitic super hero version of me. I mean, he doesn't actually look like me. But it's enough where it helps put me in a "hey I feel like i'm their and look totally Bad***" mode of thinking.

Nope. I managed to create a custom male Shepard that I was happy with.

On a side note...have you scene what somebody did with 'retard shep' (sorry if I offended anyone). They made Shep look like a totally dysfuncional human being. I don't think I could play that way though...too much time laughing to enjoy the story.

No, but when I do customize Sheppy I spend a half an hour getting him perfect, so he doesn't look "wrong".

I originally left Shepherd the way he looks and I imagine most players do too. It really is kinda dissapointing to make a character to see his voice does not match his looks at all. But my current character sufices i guess. Leaving Shepherd as the default makes me feel that he is the true Shepherd that defeated Saren and the geths and he looks pretty decent.

I really should use the default mshep on ME1 but I'm retardedly determined to make my own. All my ME1 msheps have looked like crap and my fsheps have only looked decent. On ME2 I always change their looks. My ME2 sheps look awesome

My Sheploo is default. I can't really imagine Meer's voice with any other face. My femshep is customized though (I use gibbed to get the npc hairstyles on the 360).

Only once, to see his legendary rape face first hand.

I use default. Why mess with perfection lol.
FemShep though might need some molding.

Default shep is not "perfect" but like a rapist. I modify Shep to look like a hero, not a rapist!
BTW: I don't know what a racist looks like, but shep fits, somehow his default appearance is really creepy....

When I first played ME, I immediately made a custom Shep since I did not like the default Sheploo, so my very first playthrough had Meer's voice accompanied by a different face.
Ever since I've never been able to get used to Sheploo even when I've tried to use the default face.

Yes, because I quickly learned that Custom Shepards always have some weird aspect of their face that doesn't show up during the creation screen but shows up and makes him or her look horribly disfigured under certain lighting conditions.

I figured the default Shepard was the Shepard face that was "designed to work" with the game. So if I started changing face size, chin size, cheeks, etc. it would start screwing up. All I get is stuttering whenever certain dialog plays, so so far I haven't noticed anything.

I gave default Shep a shot and only lasted a few hours; I just don't like the look of the dude. Plus, his facial animation seems hyperactive compared to custom faces. I get far fewer goofy facial expressions with my created Sheps.

Yes, default male Shep is the one I use, two reasons for it. The advertising has screwed over what I think male Shep looks like and two I suck with making a male character I like.

I've never used default shep. I always make my own custom faces that turn out great. I usually have to spend about an hour replaying the ME1 intro before I get them perfect but it's worth it

I did use him once just to see what he looked like but never made it past the Lazarus Station because I loved my custom Shep so much.

While i do like the look of default male shep, i prefer to use my vast collection of Custum Shepards

Played once with default ManShep. Few times with default FemShep. Usually make my own though, more fun that way.

Ofcourse. Mass Efffect is about Shepards story. But the feeling when playing with your own character is different
