Yeah, the asari make no sense from an evolution standpoint...if they did, they'd only be attracted to other asari (and possibly human females or quarians given the similarities).  I've never heard the 'engineered theory' though.

The Reapers did it :innocent:

Gah. So much potential with the asari, so many plot holes. And such aggravating subtextual stuff here.

I agree...it's sad really.  I hang my head in shame whenever someone prasies the design of the asari as being 'progressive' for women and specifically lesbian/bi women.

Perhaps not progressive... but at least they're fun and in at least one case, adorable.

Yeah, the awful subtext with the asari doesn't stop me from enjoying Liara's character or her romance.  :D

Right? Imagine if they hadn't developed FTL or Mass Effect drives. They would have been stuck there on their own planet with nothing but each other to mate with. Eventually, only Ardat-Yakshi would be left, fighting each other for dominance and resources. Thousands of years later, Commander Shepard lands on the planet to check out some anomalies and discovers a planet of hot, sexy Lesbian Space Vampires out to get his heart... and eat it!!

...reaaaaaal progressive. Image IPB

(would be a fun mission though, my kingdom for a toolset)

Well I don't know about the asari/female human thing, but asari/asari pairings are taboo in asari culture.

That's absurd, given how rare Ardat-Yakshi is even in purebloods and the fact that the asari already bred exclusively with themselves for the greater part of their species' lifetime and they seemed to have no problems with this...

Come to think of it, I was also just reminded of what happened with Hespith/Branka and Leliana/Marjolaine.

This is turning into a somewhat disturbing trend.

Well, there is that one LotSB video of Khalisah kissing an asari...then again, it's Khalisah, so who knows.

Which is one very good reason why I hope that is not the case with Asari, and I hope Samara is simply over exaggerating, because she is too close to the problem (the term describing Morinth is from an ancient asari dialect and what not also, right?).

Which is quite stupid when you think about it. I also think it's bad writing on Bioware's part. Asari/asari relationships was how they increased their population until they met other races.

Yeah, I'm not going to call that for either a minus or a plus for now.

Ouch. Damn, I didn't even think of it but uh... yeah, that is looking pretty bad. I don't know if it would be worse for it to be overt or subconcisous on the writers' part...

I agree. In fact I think the entire concept of blue skinned space babes is silly, but there it is. ^_^

To me it also seems to make the impresion that the asari are space tramps (which isn't the case it's  bad writing on Bioware's part) that mate with any other race out there.

Unless I somewhere missed where they said that Asari can only use sentient species to supply the random seed for their DNA scrambling, this isn't necessarily true.  They could just as easily get a random seed from whatever native animal life (apparently it requires a nervous system or they could use plants too) exists on their homeworld.

I highly doubt that. Wouldn't that be beastiality?

Yeah, the whole no asari on asari relationships is stupid. But I wouldn't compare it with the stigma against gays, because asari on asari produces offspring and basically had to go on for thousands years before the Asari met an alien race that they can reproduce with.

I had the same wonder. It's all fake science though, they could easily swing it one way or the other, but I'd imagine that Asari require a certain amount of complexity and sentience in a mating partner.

As in, not a pyjak or a varren. But maybe... I'm sure there's already some fan fiction on the matter XD

The asari might consider it that, but since asari reproduction doesn't involve sex (again, as far as I understand it), I don't think most people would consider it that.

That said, it might not be possible, but nothing I've read contradicts the idea.  It's bothered me ever since I was first told about how meeting aliens was good for the Asari because it allowed them to have more diversity when reproducing.  They could theoretically have a ton of diversity without meeting another sentient species, but apparently either the idea never occurred to them, they have a moral problem using non-sentient species for their random seed, or they can't use non-sentient species and we've never been told about it.

Honestly, there are a ton of things about asari biology/physiology that bother me, but I simply chalk it up to the fact that they're basically just fan service/space elves all rolled into one, instead of a realistic look at what an alien species might be like.

Melding is the Asari equivalent of sex, so yes, that's probably beastiality.

Yeah, but they had no problem mating with themselves for all those years, hell....I bet they ever really really enjoyed it. Then one day some of their Matriarchs up and decided it was bad and they needed to 'explore' other options....yeah...I bet that went over well.

Imagine if our scientists found a way in which a two human men or two human women could make a baby together, and the leaders of the world decided it was best for everyone to be in same-sex pairings and opposite-sex pairings began to be treated as a taboo and with disdain.

I don't see that going over too well...the whole thing is ridiculous.

Its decided the Asari are a ridiculous species. And if men could reproduce would they still be a man? and where would the baby come out of the pooper? Wait we should stop talking about this some Bioware writer is getting ideas!
