How old is Nef does it ever say? And I doubt Bioware made this Nef situation to insult lesbians.

I wouldn't really call the fling with Shaira positive really. Since it only happens when Shepard expresses disapointment that his/her's reward didn't include sex.

I think the dissapointment was about not getting money, but Shep ends up getting sex instead O_O  I suppose Shai'ra being the perseptive asari that she is, realizes that Shep needs to loosen up and relax a bit, credits can be aquired in otherwise, but sex without the threat of fraternization charges?  that's lovely.

there are females chatting and sexy dancing with asari all over the place.  Aria has a stripper entertaining her.  I beleive both Emily Wong AND Kalissa have asari lovers.

I wouldn't say 'all over the place'.  Also, you can't prove that they are dancing together due to sexual or romantic attraction/involvement...they could be simply dancing for fun.

The asari strippers may not even be there for Aria, but perhaps her guards.

I think the purpose of this thread is just to make people and BW writers aware of a subtext.   The thing is, if the DO add a relationship like this, why the heck must it always be lesbian vampire gone wild.

No. Shepard's desire for money can (have to) be expressed in the first dialog option (lower option ofcourse). If not, Shepard is quite content with not recieving any monetary reward. Granted if you show disapointment after the speech, it quite clear that Shepard had hoped for another reward.

sigh.  morinth is not a "lesbian" vampire.  she's a vampire period, her latest victim just happens to be female.  there are no inherent  implications, only what you chose to see and make of it.

anyone can take anything, anything at all and make it sound offensive in their mind.  old Russian joke comes to mind  (subcontext - little fish is sort of an informal way to adress someone - its a loose translation anyways)

scene - packed mass transit bus lurches suddenly, and a man standing next to a sitting woman, bumps into her. he says "excuse me, little fish"  and a woman starts thinking  "little fish, he means I'm a fish now?  fish - means pirranna, pirrana means angry, angry means ****?"  and suddenly yells out:  "people, he just called me a ****!"

joke or not, but sometimes it feels like the people nitpicking about social implications of various Mass effect setups have the same association thought processes.

wasn't clear to me.  the exact dialogue option is after all she gives you is words (and that's by the way before she gives yo ua trinket): that's it?  how do you go from "that's it"  to "I was hoping I'd get sex" ?

at best its ambiguous.

I think the conclusion to the quest goes like this.

Consort: Blabla thank you for helping me.
Shepard: No problem [upper/middle] - /- Give me money [lower option]

Consort: Okay. But before you leave I would like to give you something else also.
Shepard: What is it? [every option]

Consort: Fancy speech.
Shepard: Thank you [upper/middle] -/- I had hoped for something else (sex).

This is just a basic summary of the scene as I remember it.

well, having litteraly just replayed it - the options are as following

was my pleasure
no problem
payment?

then she goes - I'd like to give you something else and you go

sure
what is it
gimme

she goes all oracle on you

and you go

astute of you
thank you
that's it?

I can replay it again, to quote exact answers, but nowhere does it mention sex (maybe you can see it as implied, I'd give you that, but you have to personally expect it - in fact I had no idea you COULD get sex, until I decided to be a jerk O_O I thought I'd get credits) and with a lot of other quests you can chose: no big deal option and get credits for it, so it creates a precedent of being payed in credits for help.

The consort is a high-class prostitute. Once she has given both money and a speech, it's quite obvious what reward Shepard was hoping he would recieve but didn't get.

not relaly.  she's a geisha (and geisha's often didn't even sleep with their patrons).  when you ask Nelyna about what exactly is it that consort does, she tells you that consort gives you what you need and that its different with every client.  sometimes its a shoulder to cry on.  sometimes its advice.  sometimes its someone interesting to talk to.  and sometimes is sex.

she's never given me money, at least no that I could see :/  she just says - I offer you a gift of words.

I suppose its personal perceptions and expectations...ties into the original topic I suppose.  some poeple expect to be offended, so they get offended.

True enough about her being something of a geisha. But do you honestly believe Shepard's expression of dissapointment was because he didn't get one hour of talking with Sha'ira?:P

for my shepards - it was the lack of credits for time invested into playing a messenger that caused the dissapointment.  that crazy tomato raped me!  >_>  (bonus points if you know where the reference is from)

Gah, got past the first page and I can't stand it. Morinth likes sex and power. She kills with sex and gets kicks out of it. Nef (what is that short for by the way, I'm not returning to this topic so if anyone knows, send me a message) is just an innocent victim caught up in Morinth's game. There is no more story than that.

Ah well. I guess the original point I was trying to make was that the fling between Shepard and the consort isn't really shown as a positive thing like you said (but nor is it shown negativly).
