(SPOILERS ALERT... just in case ;))

OK... here  we go.

I noticed something weird when comes to ME 1 final part (post Virmire - Ilos - Citadel Battle)

To made things simple - You can't loose :o ME 1.

After Virmire Shepard  fly back to Citadel when Saren is on his way DIRECT on Ilos...
On Citadel Shep waste he/his time on arguments with Council (when s/he should known from the very beginning that Council will reject any idea of chasing Mu Relay) and get almost pinned down by Douchebag Udina... causing because of that theoretically more and more precious time for stopping Saren fly away with warp speed but ...

SURPRISE SURPRISE...

ILOS.

On Ilos Shepard's team catches Saren when he entered corridor leading to conduit  - so Shep&co start "tour" on Ilos surface in searching swith button to open Archives and after open those doors Shep made brief stop to chat with Vigil... but despite fact that you can crossexamin him like crazy asking fife times this same qustion... only to learn at the end that Saren still NOT reach Conduit .
Conduit Dash - Fail to reach him in proper time - ALL you get is Critical Mission Failure screen :o.

CITADEL.

Shepard is forced to climb to Council Chamber fighting with Geth and Krogans along way BUT despite fact that Saren did have time advance over Shepard both reach Chamber in ALMOST same time(about fife minutes gap).

Loosing fight with RoboSaren ends as well with ONLY Critical Mission Failure screen when this should be ulitimate end fort the game because after eliminating Shepard RS shouldn't have any problems to eliminate any squaddie and in the end open relay...:alien:.(after end of cutscene showing Reapers flying through CR all we could do is reload pre fight save and try again)

So my conclusion is... ME 1 DON'T have catastrophic ending no matter how hard i could try to screwed up... as further "proof" for that claim can be fact that THIS SAME cutscene of Sovieregin destruction is used for ALL three variants (save DA/focus on Sovieregin/let them die) when at least focus/let them die scenarios should end with Alliance massacre by left behind Geth ships... but that's not the case.

Default  vanilla renegade start of ME 2 don't leave any mirages and say straight that Battle for Citadel was costly BUT victorious anyway.

So i will say once more - WE CAN'T FAIL IN ME 1 because such failre is NOT AN OPTION...

But maybe i am wrong and all those suppositions have not a single sense too...

I see (and agree to) what you're saying, but I don't get what's your goal with this. It seems that you're suggesting of incorporating timed decisions here. Though, it would be quite hard to make a good balance of not so much luck and weird timers on screen telling you when you should be stopping to enjoy the conversations and resuming to fulfill the timer's wishes. At the latter point, it would just stop being interesting.

With ME1 and to an extent, ME2, the developers had to make the story unfold in a certain way in order to continue to the next game. You can die in ME2 but you won't be able to import into ME3. With ME3 being the last in the trilogy, the developers have a lot more options on how they go about ending it.

That's because it's not reality, Asheer. The story is bound to a pre-determined path where Shepard can't and never fail in ME1.
