I've never seen a Wynne appreciation thread, though I'm sure at some point someone must have made one. I have; however, seen lots and lots of snipes at Wynne for her "preachy" nature and her lectures.

Until recently I largely ignored her, but I became curious so I started talking to her. What a nice, sweet old woman! I only wish my 4 foot 11 inch, angry Sicilian grandmother was more like her.

OK, so she's not a smoking hot little tight-body like Morrigan or Laliana. But give that nice old lady some love!

A nice sweet old woman whos always giving my character unwanted advice about her sex life!

Sure, shes older, more mature and wiser than my characters but people like that are annoying in real life too :D

If she was an F/F option, I'd romance her just to see what would happen...

I liked Wynne when Ifound her in the Tower then I was a bit annoyed when Wynne told Eleyna off for having an affair with Zevran but I warmed to her again when she accepted the relationship as genuine.

I appreciated her a lot more my 2nd game, especially in the camp conversation - she told Erik he was a child because he was asking her about griffins. I also adore her conversations with Zevran - I found the whole thing on Youtube by chance and attempted to get it. I got some of that dialogue but I missed the end because Wynne left after Erik chose to defile the Ashes. I half expected her to as I heard she abandons blood mages but I had chosen the Blood Mage specialisation earlier and she hadn't gone so I was secretly hoping she would choose to stay. Her absence felt really wrong when I saw her empty tent in the camp.

There have been at least two Wynne appreciations threads that I know of. Both of them died pretty quickly. She has her supporters, but they didn't really seem interested in actually talking about her.

They died quickly because the Wynne haters couldn't bear to leave us in peace which made it no fun at all. We actually made a conscious choice to let the thread die because all it did was provide another forum for the hate, and because it was so freaking irritating. Not sure why people felt the need to do that, but they did, so.... Fact is, the Wynne haters do so with such passion they won't let anyone talk about her in a positive way without flaming it.

Wynne threads quickly turn as preachy as the old bat herself, with people psychologizing about how Wynne haters must want to put a pillow over their grandma's face or can't take advice or whatever. Mostly people just need to lighten up. It's not a "flame" to talk about a blob of pixels. She's written well enough that some people love to love her and a lot of people love to hate her. All part of the game.

Perhaps, but people don't usually feel the need to go to an appreciation thread to rebut any positive thing that might be said. It's not like there wasn't an active Wynne hate thread at the time to provide an outlet for those feelings.

Haven't hung out in the Loghain thread much, eh? LOL A thread on a controversial character is going to draw a diversity of opinions, especially when people start talking smack about other players. Nevertheless on the last Wynne thread I did try to divert the haters over to our beloved Abominable thread. Some people- really only one- weren't going to be herded. That's the way the forum cookie crumbles.

Wow. My thread was meant in part as a joke. I had no idea the history of this topic.

What's funny is that it's likely the new Dragon Age novel will have Wynne in it. David Gaider as much as said it's about Wynne's son.

Controversial character?

Person A: Turned his back on the king and deserted right as the battle mounted. The king and everyone in Ostagar were slaughtered. Hunted and tried to kill grey wardens and their supporters. Tried to kill the Arl of Redcliff. Tortured people. Sold slaves on the black market. His longtime friend and most trusted adviser killed every man, woman in child at the Cousland estate.

Person B: Is oldfashioned because well... she's old. She's preachy and opinionated.

Do you really think they should be lumped in the same category?

I don't hate Wynne. She's not so bad. I find it funny when she dissaproves of things. All the charactes add something by their approvals and dissaprovals at certain actions, conversations or sexual exploits.

I can't waste too much energy on hate for a game character. Just take it out on them in game.

In terms of fan opinion, certainly.  Or else why did you start the thread?  You obviously noticed there are a lot of people who fireball Wynne.

Literally, sometimes.

I suspect many of them are young and don't want elders playing authority figures in their video games.

I haven't seen anybody fireball her yet in this thread

Shes a women of strong principles who tries to live by them. Admirable. Shes also constantly giving me advice I didn't ask for which comes across very preachy. Irritating.

I felt much less emotional involvement when doing her personal quest than I did for most of the other companions even though looked at objectively she was once again trying to do something admirable, face up and remedy past mistakes

What this thread needs is an over the top Youtube video on the subject by an emo kid with streaking mascara sobbing into the camera about how good Wynne is. I don't have any real feelings either way about Wynne, I'm pretty neutral on the subject, but a title like this thread title pretty much requires some over the top advocacy.

Ok, I'm obviously missing something, but I don't get where that points to Wynne's son.

And that is the sort of remark that causes "Wynne support" threads to go down in flames.

Take the first letters of Gaider's response. Make two words out of them.

What? You now need everything stated so obviously? No.
