Heres something from an old TV show. Rommie is the name of the AI played by the hotiliscious Lexa Doig.
High Guard Glorious Heritage Heavy Cruiser registration number XMC-10-284.
Andromeda has three forms, the ship's AI, the holographic form and an avatar. All Three independent of the others, each with their own opinions, but still tied to the others actions. Both the AI and the hologram are call Andromeda, but the avatar is called Rommie.
Commission date: 12th day of Kalends, CY 9772, under command of Captain Fatima Novarro. Commission ceremony attended by Empress Sucharitkul XII and Admiral Constanza Q. Stark. Commanded by Capt. Dylan Hunt from CY 9781 to present. Standard crew complement: 4,132 crew members.
"The Andromeda, like any other ship, runs on hydrogen and anti-protons, or AP. The hydrogen combines with the AP in controlled reactions to create antimatter/matter reactions, or matter/antimatter reactions; either way it makes no matter, but what it does make is power - for the ship - a few hundred megawatts.
Most of the power is used to power the GFG, which reduces the effective mass to just under a kilogram. A smaller chunk of power is used to accelerate more hydrogen in a dozen magnetoplasmadynamic drives, which impart a thrust - a thrust of a half million newtons or so." The Andromeda Ascendant is controlled by an artificial intelligence, Shining Path to Truth and Knowledge AI model GRA 112, serial number XMC-10-182. Most of the ship is under her control, but there are interfaces for her crew.
The holographic form, appears mostly in corridors to converse with the Captain and crew.
Rommie is fully autonomous, she goes on missions away from the ship and has power for several days.
Bolded AI related parts.
I'd love to see what EDI does with those abilities especially as she seems to have taken a liking to Jeff.

Basically the "female" version of the HK-47.

That's Rommie but maybe a little advanced for ME.

As for a squadmate, no. We're already supposed to have any survivors from ME2 (minus DLC) plus some new additions. The Normandy isn't that big.... (norly, I still dont know where all these people sleep)

Admiral Cheez works miracles once again. If she gets body, next everybody will want to 'mance her (even though I know some already do want to).
I don't know about that... I just find her changing attitude towards Jeff really funny. Is that fear in his eyes or panic?
As for being a squad mate, your not really adding anyone new just chaging their role a bit.

But seriously, while the possibility of having an AI (and related subplot) crew sounds intriguing, It'll be implausible and distracting from the overall pacing of the final chapter. We want to focus on Reaper killing, not the merits of self-aware AI beings.
Besides, EDI is tied to the ship, which makes her unique. If she's just a smart robot, she'll just be a (hopefully) sexier version of Legion.

Also, I think it's interesting that everyone refers to EDI as her, when "it" would probably be more appropriate. It's most likely the voice. I wonder how EDI feels about the organic crew projecting gender identity onto her. Err, it.

...But if she does, she better be a romanceable squademate with the body & looks of Tricia Helfer, which would be about as much good as you can salvage from this idea.

Well, sh... *coughs* it doesn't seem to care about Joker referring to it as a female. Besides it is a common thing for people to refer to ships as female.marshalleck wrote...
The vagina ball is fine, she doesn't need a body. Besides, as has been said, her body is now the Normandy since Joker plugged her in.

As to the OP question, as others have said, EDI has a body, EDI body = Normandy SR2, she has control

Even though it's an interesting prospect it would make more people angry than happy. Especially if they did it wrong. And even if they do it well, there's no way to please everyone.
