Post-apocalyptic setting was the standard for fantasy pre-Tolkien.  See Howard, Ashton Smith, Vance, or Moorcock.

The "Tolkien with a twist" was what I did not like about Origins.  Did we really have to have dwarves and elves?  Just because the tropes were subverted does not make them okay. Even the epic fantasy novels outgrew Tolkien races in the 90s.

1: It is post apocalyptic in a way. The blighted lands are tainted and barren. That's not the entire game though, it's one level.
2: Really? You don't think Origins powers looked at all like lasers?  My awakening mage casts repulsion field, elemental chaos, and draining aura then runs around like some sort of disco doombringer...

I would've liked original races in the game, but all we got was the qunari, the blight and a whole bunch of monsters. I'll also argue in favor of the Dwarves if you like, no matter what you say they were a well written race, especially the noble origin. They were called dwarves but their culture could've been confused with any original race, the elves were alittle less inventive though.

Hate to break it to you, but Elves and "dwarfs" existed in german folklore centuries before Tolkein's great-great grandfather was even born. (and they even had the exact same features)

The health bars are red, the magic bars are light blue, and the stamina bars are yellow. their just bigger than in orgins, and not around the characters picture so your actually able to see them easily.

I don't really see a problem

I still don't really like the art style. I'll get over it, though- I didn't like Origins, either (so much brown). I definitely like the faces and different models more in this.



I hope to see some shots of other locations at some point! Forests, a beach, something other than Blighted freakin' Ferelden.

The ogre does look MUCH better, though I still like the Origins one more. I wonder if Bioware responded to the feedback about it's initial screenshot releases. Thank you for sharing the pictures OP.
