Which are you going to play Dragon Age 2 as? I love pause and play personally.

It's going to be hard getting out the habit of constantly pausing the game and queuing up skills. So I'll play more tactically probably even though it seems completely optional this time round.

I'll just do what I did last time. At first I didn't feel the need to pause because I was getting through battles with relative ease. Once the battles became more difficult (and my mage got more spells) I began to pause much more frequently.

Since Bioware released a video showing that either is perfectly possible...is this thread a poll or a debate?
I tend to prefer strategic pause and micro-managing though sometimes just run and gun it in Origins on small fights.

Just a discussion, I want to see what people say and why they prefer it?

Depends what difficulty I play on.
Option 1 for Casual / Normal.
Option 2 for Hard / Nightmare.

In Origins I found that I P&P'd more when I played a mage. When I played melee classes I just hit things and let the AI do whatever. I imagine it will be much the same in DA2.

Both, but a wedding between the two is not a good idea.
Oh, you meant.. I was thinking you meant like Kingdom hearts or something, lol.

I use both. Let my Warrior(s) fight while I switch to the mage and use the pause menu to select their target then switch back to my main Warrior...I just let that rogue do wantever they want since I don't care about them

A happy medium.

Assuming I get the game, I'm still debating, I'll be playing on Nightmare from the beginning and try to be as tactical as possible. I hope "optional" doesn't mean "pointless waste of time because this is now a hack and slash game."

I'll be playing hard or nightmare, but even then I'll be pausing only if a battle gets too hard. If it is harder then DA:O's nightmare, then I think I'll be pausing quite often.

Both but since I'll be playing a mage, chances are I'll be pausing...a lot unless they make casting spells a whole lot easier.

Pause and play, since I'm forced to play Nightmare mode because it's the only mode that has friendly fire.

Pause and play, always. I really hope we aren't forced into tactics.

Pause and play, mostly. I enjoy micromanaging my party, and I don't really care for AI tactics, so while I might occasionally blow through simple fights or fights when I don't have a party, I'll generally be making extensive use of the pause feature to analyze the fight and coordinate my team.

Action, No need for Tactics, just take a blade for that Throat.

Pause and play.
I only hope the combat doesn't move so quickly as to make pausing ineffective. In DAO I'd pause at least every 2 seconds. I worry that DA2's combat will move too quickly for me to repause before something untoward happens.

Basicly its like this:
Action: You'll most likely die unless you can control your whole team in real time and takes less time to get rid of enemies (Real time not in-game time).
Pause: You will be able to set-up traps, strategys, and make combo attacks/defense, heal/restore mana/stamina while having your team focus on other enemies.

Okay, I'm an RPG blasephemer: I'd rather go with action. As much as I loved Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2, Planescape: Torment, etc., the tactical crap got overwhelmingly tedious and morphed into long, overbearing sessions of micromanagement instead of fun, engaging segments of gameplay. The Draconis fight in Throne of Bhaal comes to mind. I've never paused so much in my life.

I usually combine the two, playing it real time yet also pausing. Gonna be cool!

If the fights difficult: pause. If it's a piece of cake: action.

Depending on the situation, if it needs pausing I'll pause, if it doesn't I won't.
