For the more difficult fights I like to use more stratigical fighting, pausing and so forth. But for the more easier ones just action.

I'll probably only use pause 'n' play during boss fights and difficult battles; situations where I will absolutely need to use a planned out strategy. Constant pausing and micromanaging against millions of average packs of the same old trash mobs is just tedious.

Action/Casual difficulty.
Like i did on origins.

Both for me.
When my custom tactics aren't enough, sometimes I have to use the radial menu to specifically tell my companions to do something. Otherwise, I just control my character and let the companions do their thing. I do prefer to have both options.

Depends on how difficult the encounter is. I usually like to micromanage everyone though.

In Origins it usually depended on situation, perhaps same will be here. You start with pause, paralyze enemies, cast AoE spells and abilities and when enemies are finally helpless just finish them off in real-time, action-RPG style.

During a challenging fight, or when my wife is standing in front of the TV, I will pause. If it is just some random group of bandits/darkspawn, action.

A mix, depends the situation. Against low level enemies I will probably just let my party cut through them. A harder fight will require more thinking. Unless it's just like Drakensang, lol then I'll pause every second.

It seems everybody is willing to jump between Action and Pausing.

Depends on difficulty fo the fight. I'm not going to bother with strategy if I'm just fighting a group of easy thugs. But I'll pause and play if there's a really tough boss fight or something.

Uh, both? I see no reason to limit myself to one or the other...

I'm not sure that's the case. There seem to be many people who will let the AI obliterate some mobs and Pause during other combats. That's a bit different from 'Action' games where you activate special abilities whilst the action is happening.Sal_add wrote...

I will use all 3, Action, pause and play and make use of the tactics. The AI for my team members was actually pretty good. I usually just controlled my main character( especially if it was a mage) and let the others goes with the ai tactics that I selected for them. Occasionally I would switch and take control of wynne for her spirit healer and vessel of the spirit abilities. nothing explains the exhilarating feeling of my main getting ready to face a hord of darkspawn only to have shale knock them back with a huge boulder, because thats what I had her tactics set to do.

Action RPG (not counting that Xbox UI will not have enough quick action slots and thus i have to use radial menu for some stuff). Pause and play just ain't my style really. Either a game is turn based or it is real time (or should be).

I really don't enjoy the combat if I don't pause during it. If can run through it without any thought I wonder why I bothered, because clearly the game didn't need me.
