Dear Friends,
_________________________________________________________
___P A R T I A L  C O N T R O L L E R  S U P P O R T  L I N K  B E L O W __

Like many of you, I was quite irritated at the apathy from Bioware concerning controller support for the Mass Effect franchise.

So I got my hands dirty. I have burned many, many candles combing blindly through the Coalesced.bin file of Mass Effect 3 to try my hand at flipping the right switches and getting the kind of controller support that some benevolent individual provided us all with in Mass Effect 2.

Just writing this makes me furious.

Because I have been mildly successful. And through the successes that I have achieved, one thing has become painfully clear: FOR THE DEVELOPERS TO PROVIDE YOU THE CONTROLLER SUPPORT YOU CRAVE WOULD COST THEM AN ABSOLUTE PITTANCE OF THEIR TIME! All the changes I have made to the Coalesced file could have been made in five minutes if I would have known what I was looking for, which the developers do. I am just some guy who was sick of the status quo. I am practically computer illiterate. But I was determined.

And I invite all who stumble across this thread to try out my Alpha build of the Coalesced.bin file.

A few caveats: this file is HEAVILY modified. DO NOT USE THIS FOR MULTIPLAYER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. The chance of a ban is probably high. I take no responsibility for what what might happen if you choose to use this file.

But a lot of the controller support is working. I would say this Coalesced is 70% done. I invite anyone with some skills or know-how to pick up the torch and continue modding this until all issues are solved.

May a new conversation begin. And with that, I provide you a link to the file:

It works, but there is some problems that make it impossible to use. If you open the galaxy map, you can't close it anymore, for example. :/

I wish I could help.

Edit: I think you should post on the ME3 Explorer forums, as well. They could help you.

I still find it baffling when bioware makes all these games for consoles, that in the PC version they can't offer the same controller mechanics. I understand that You cannot simply copy and paste, but isn't essentially most of the work done already and you just need to work out the kinks? I mean hell, look at the bugs in ME2. It couldn't of possibly been any worse than that, yet I never stopped playing lol

Bump, would like an answer from Bioware that isn't pure ignorance and arrogance. Pathetic that such simple problems go this long without a proper response.

I too want controller support. I don't understand why it was removed from the PC version..I have my PC hooked up to the TV and its so much nicer to have a controller in hand than a keyboard tray in lap

Piling on. Long time XBOX 360 ME player. Some friends asked me to buy ME3 on PC to play MP with them. Did it. Lo and behold zero controller support. Should've known; my fault.

Bioware, at almost every turn over the last couple of years, is showing that they are fully integrating into the long tradition of their parent company to give their customers less and less, but quick embracing the opportunities to nickel and dime them to death. What century is this?

Sadly, controller support won't happen, they aren't even supporting the game anymore. Always worth a try though. But, my head is getting sorer and sorer from banging it on the wall of sellout corporatism. I'll eventually realize the futility and quit like many others.

Looks like I'm going to Pinnacle. Is this a MP ban-able offense? That would just be the height of irony.

I'm still looking for native gamepad patches/mods every 6 months or so. I also keep installing Mass Effect 1 to see if I can maybe get used to the KB+M controls, but I just can't. I really want to play the series with a proper frame-rate, especially the first game :(.

I guess my only hope is that in five or ten years from now, there will be a proper HD trilogy developed with extra features, such as gamepad support. The Steam controller also gives some hope, but I have my doubts.

I do the same thing as the above poster. I don't understand, could this not be patched back in by Bioware ? What is the point in forcing people to play one way or another ? Some of us have jobs heavily involving using a PC all the time and when it comes time to play a game, we'd like to be able to relax on the couch with a controller. Why purposely deny that for any reason ? I would buy the games over again on PC to enjoy them that way, but I guess Bioware/ EA doesn't want the money.

Why say there was no time to add it ? When it was a port and the UI was there by default ? It took 0 time to leave it in, and MORE time to actually go in and gimp it to stop working. If they had time for weather balloon publicity stunts, surely there was time to do something that teams of indie devs consisting of 3 man studios do on a regular basis ? Right ?

Well, the thing about "no xbox 360 gamepad support" really annoys me.

If this game was for PC only, I'd (partially) understand.
But the game was made for consoles as well, so WHY NOT implement support for it?
I mean they already have gamepad controls ready to go on the xbox 360 version, so why not make them for PC version as well?

Bioware, please do us a favor and let the next mass effect game have gamepad support, thank you.

Controller support was recently officially patched into Bioshock 2. Which is a game that originally had zero controller support. And it's funny because the devs of Bioshock 2 initially gave some of the same exact excuses that Bioware has used for why it wasn't there.

Bioware's excuses are BS. Especially considering how easily partial controller support was re-enabled. There is no good reason for not patching controller support into all three games. I've tried xpadder, but it just has too many issues. It seems my only hope at this point is the Steam controller since Bioware has clearly and repeatedly shown that they don't care about controller users.

Hey fjel_strom, did you get around to maybe posting on the ME3Explorer forums? After so long, I find it hard to believe Bioware refuses to acknowledge the changing of the times. There was nothing wrong with providing you're loyal customers with options.

@BOBtheMASTER50
Those excuses are simply PR BS as always.

I'm going to take a look at this file and see what i can come up with, besides the multiplayer solution from the other forum from a while back, I have only played and completed the single player once! Because I refuse to sit and play a TPS/RPG for hours and hours on end needlessly hunched over a KB/M!

That thread is was referring to also, Last post is me with a link to a youtube video I created to showcase that the controller method works perfectly for multiplayer;
http://social.biowar...index/9697210/3

In the meantime i will be taking a look at this Coalesced file to see what might be improved. Good luck OP.

Special for those guys saying that controller support is unnecessary:

I get used to play shooters from my sofa with gamepad. And I do that much better than some of my friends with k/m controls.

Playing ME3 with just only k/m was annoying. But now it's not just annoying but simply impossible for me - I've broke right hand with nerve damage - I simply can't play on k/m scheme for a very long period of time. And it seems like I can't play me3 because of that.

It's pretty simple for me, really - I have all three ME games on 360, and I've sunk hundreds of hours into them. Now a while back I finally decided to splurge for a gaming PC, and I would be perfectly happy to buy the entire trilogy again just for the better graphics (and the ability to record game footage and take screenshots), but not if I have to play the games with a typing tool.

So I guess they don't want my money. Which is fine, there are other games.

If I could get out of the menus that lock me up, I might be pretty happy with the coalesced the way it is, even if i had to use my mouse for certain menus. Anyone know how to fix that?

Bump. Does Bioware plan to add controlle support back in that they took the time to strip out during the porting process?

I think Bioware doesnt want to give controller support. Theyre too focused on Dragon Age Inquisition and Mass Effect 4. Also, the time it took to remove support for controller support took more time than to just have finished it. I think they gave us the middle finger. Anyway, my coalesced bin is modded to the point that I can move around, shoot, aim, and roll, jump over obstacles. I just have to be close to my keyboard to load up the screen so I can change weapons and select powers. sucks, but I am dreadfully horrible at k/m. And I refuse to play any game that doesn't support controller any longer
