I think you mean rogue.

Ranged feels somewhat weak until you get to Awakening, when it feels overpowered. You will also duplicate Leliana. If you do go ranged, you may want to consider being a ranger.
A dual wielding rogue can solo the game.
Either way, you should either pump strength and dexterity or dexterity and cunning. If you choose dexterity and cunning make Lethality a priority.
Stealth can be important for a rogue. You get huge bonuses for doing damage from behind or while stealthed.
Light armour is your friend. Armour of the provocateur is available from the start if you finished the DLC. You can wear it all the way through. Bard's Dancing Shoes and Red Jenny are excellent boots and gloves respectively. If you decide to go archery, you want any gear that gives you rapid aim. If you don't have Provocateur then the best armour is the Felon's Coat.
If you did Witch Hunt then you get an excellent bow. Otherwise the best available bow is Far Song. For dagger's, I like Rose's Thorn and Fang.
The City elf origin is my personal favourite. Which story do you like better? The city elf story is the only origin that differs in feel between male and female, if that helps.

Edited: I meant dexterity and cunning, not strength and cunning.

Agree with everything mousestalker said, other than when they said pump str and cun. DONT EVER do that. Unless they were talking about using a bow, and even then I would get no more than 25 str and pump Dex. DW 20 str is all you need, then depending on if you want survivable with good damage or not as survivable with insane damage pump Dex or get 36 dex and pump Cun respectively. I prefer to balance them, gives you good survivability and great damage. Aim for about 60 Dex and 60 Cun with gear. Probably the best gear set would be:

Helm of Honnleath

Red Jenny Seekers

Felon's Coat

Cadash Stompers

High Regard of House Dace

Key to the City

Harvest Festival Ring

Andruil's Blessing

The Roses Thorn (2 GM ele runes, 1 GM paralyse rune)

Fang (Dragonbone) (1 GM Dweomer rune, 1 M Dweomer Rune, 1 GM physical resist rune)

Although for this gear set you need to be a City elf and need the Stone Prisoner and Golems of Amgarrak dlc. That is the best damage gear build with daggers, if you do want to go with a bow it wont be, search the forums for archer gear sets, you will find plenty.

Well I used to go all Dex. The Advantage being great defense but not armor penetration. So if you think you'll be fighting three guys at the same time defense is nice. If more than three guys than maybe you want a Strength and Dexterity build to get more Armor. Or if you're going for Critical hits than you want Cunning and Dex. with Aim on and lethality.

High Dex is not going to save you from overwhelm... just so you know.

Sad, but true.

Stealth + traps and bombs are the solo rogue's way of dealing with overwhelm. Even then, it's probably best to run a lot while stealth recharges.

Does str increase physical resistance? If it that now makes sense why you pump str mouse, but only on a nightmare solo run. But ofc each to their own :) no one is right and no one is wrong, if you have managed to finish the game your doing somethign right lol

I meant Strength 22 for Ancient elven armor and the rest in Dexterity for a Dex. build.

Ancient elven armor? You would need to do two main quest sections to get the whole set and its not even that great.

You'd be better off with red jenny's/angled strikers, battledress of the prov/shadow of the empire, cadash stompers/silverhammer's tackmasters. You can get all of that for no or significantly less game time investment and less (although minor) secondary attribute investment than the ancient elven armor set. (btw, the set bnous is like 5 or 10 defense, so not significant at all)

I wouldn't attempt to play the majority (or really any section) of the game with ancient elven armor. Its a subpar choice. I used the set on my 1st playthrough and found it to be easily outclassed by a lot of named light armor/boots/gloves. Granted its probably the best medium armor in Origins but, its still not a great choice compared to other, more easily acquired options.

Read that Guide for all you need to know.

Also as for Origen, Dwarf Commoner, Dahlish Elf, City Elf. In that Order are probably best for Female Rogues due to starting abilities and gear. As a Female, I suggest Romancing someone you havent before, possibly Zevran. The Female Dwarf+Zevran combo is entertaining.
