I'm brand new to NWN2's toolset, and I've created the little church area as described in Don't Panic: The Hitchhiker's Guide To  The Toolset. Now I'd like to expand upon it, and I chose to start with making the priest talk to the player. The priest asks the player a riddle, and, if the player answers correctly, he gets a key to open the chest behind the priest.

Well, that's what I want to happen, but I don't know how to make the NPC give the player the key. I want the player to get it only if he has reached this specific node in the conversation (ie, 'Congratulations! Here's the key.') How do I do that? Does that require scripting, 'cause I haven't even considered delving into that just yet.

there's a default script to give an item to the player, ga_give_item. You pass it the tag of the item (they key in your case), number to give, and whether to give to the pc or everyone in the party.

Ah! Thanks a bunch. Now if I can only find a "key" in the item list to give to the priest...

Keys have to be made.

To do what you are looking at will need you to lock the chest and associate a key with it with a certain tag. Then creat the key that the priest will give.

Look at the chests properties and you will see an area dedicated to the lockable properties of the chest.

To start with you might try useing a script to open the chest from the convo, there is also a standard offering to do this.

Making keys has been covered in other posts a search may get you there. Otherwise it is covered in some tutorials specifically the NWN2 toolset manual off the vault section 6.6.

Normaly I would link you but I'm short on time. If you cant find a way forward then repost.
