You probably all know the standard loading screen of the game: It starts showing a Mass Relay, then you see the Normandy SR-2, moving into the background, four bars have to be filled, there is an arrow moving in a curvy line...

15 seconds! It takes 15 seconds for this loading screen to play. That's because it's a video and it will play from beginning to end regardless if the actual loading is long finished.

So I replaced this loading screen with the shortest loading screen the game has to offer (it just shows the Mass Effect 2 brand) and my loading times have been reduced to 3 (three!) seconds.  Quickload now actually does what the name implies....../../../images/forum/emoticons/w00t.png

I've uploaded this as a tweak / mod for you here: http://www.mediafire...ebildschirm.rar

Just copy the files into

...\\Mass Effect 2\\BioGame\\Movies

and when asked to replace the existing files choose "yes". The original files are in the archive in case something goes wrong. Enjoy.

PS: I guess there is quite a high probability that somebody already did a similar mod. I read this forum on a regular basis and have never seen such a mod / tweak, that's why I started this topic. If so please let me know.

Well I played with the tweak for several hours now and it definitely takes a little frustration out of the game and the quickload-feature.

BUT seeing that no one cares I guess that some things are simply meant to be exclusive to only a few people. :D

Hmm... well does it work on 360?

Otherwise it is exclusive!

Is 15 seconds normal on PC? I got annoyed as hell with that on the xbox but on my PC I haven't seen a loading screen for more than 1-2 seconds at most, transitions though the ship and landing are almost instant, only the big levels take up to 2 seconds.

Well let me explain again: The loading screens are actual videos. You can even play them from your desktop using the "Bink Smacker Player".

These videos always run from beginning to end. It's not linked to the actual loading. Even when the loading of files is done the video will play to it's end.

The video I swapped has a running time of 15 seconds (I used a stopwatch ^^). It will always run 15 seconds, no matter the platform (PC and console). Other loading screens have shorter running times. The one I swapped it for runs about 3 seconds. And the loading screens for the ship elevator are the exception from the rule because they're linked to the actual loading, they end once the floor is loaded.

Okay I hope this was understandable now. Sorry for not making this clearer in the start post. ;)

You're welcome. :)

BTW: This can basically be done with all loading screens, reducing the loading times even more. But I figured I'd leave the other loading screens alone as most of them show a particular scene, like the shuttle taking off of a planet, or the Normandy docking. Though these loading screens are repeated quite often I think they add at least a tiny bit of atmosphere.

You're free to experiment though. All the movies are located in this folder:

...\\Mass Effect 2\\BioGame\\Movies

and you need this player to watch them: http://www.radgameto...com/bnkdown.htm (it's free, don't mind the payment options)

So you can watch the "loading screens", identify long ones and replace them with short ones. ^^

I did not know those vids played no matter what, even if loading finished. Hopefully BioWare can fix this in ME3 for console users who can't use a mod.

So glad I found this thread by mistake. I have now changed every single load screen. Having everything load in 3 seconds vs 15 seconds saves so much time.
