I think my résumé of 7 years of hardcore gaming and 2 years of semi-professional criticism of games and film has earned me a jaded badge when approaching sequels such as DA:2. That being said if I have to hear how great Witcher 2 will apparently be I'll destroy the internet with my years of honed biting cynical remarks.

Let's see now: there's no races, no origins, it'll be much shorter (ME2's length), you can't change armor and different weapon types for party members (like in ME2), warriors can't duel wield or use archery, you can duel wield only daggers, mages can only use staffs, there's less specializations, $60 for PC, no specializations for party members, mods/toolset MIGHT be released in the future, no isometric tactical view for PC etc...

I can't possibly think of a reason why people might be pissed ...

[Edit: And I don't like the voiced main character. Yes, that's right, I prefer him to be silent so I can give him the most fitting voice in my head and make him more personalized. I also don't like the main character to be of a fixed race (human) and the fact that the Origins stories are gone.
[/quote]

My thing is they talk as your character is not the story but thats a bunch of BS, your Warden made the story happen and not carry the Warden over but they want to have a fixed character this time around and a voice, seems like ME to me.

The enitre story of some guy in one city over ten years in one city, thats boring. They took the Warden out because they could not come up with a new system that would come up with all the characters we had made and make it work, would have took too long.  I  know people think the game is rushed but no, it's just how they do them now, all streamlined out and fast with little to no substance. DAO was a game all in it's own and they will never make one like it again. It's not becasue they can't or would not want to, it's all about deadlines to make and get it out in a year. they have had to cut so many corners that it's a damn shame.

I have already bought the game and yea I can't stand being Hawke instead of the Warden, that will never change, we had the perfect charcter installed for more titles.

I bought this game for a story that I hope will be good and that is the only hope I have for it, they took the rest away but I hope that the story is good.  For the story I don't like Hawke, but I do want more of Felmith, I don't care for a game that is around some guy and his family for 10 years and all in one city, fixed armor, camera, list goes on.

I was asked in alot of PMs as to how do you think they will grade it, I see a 7.0  at best and 6.5 to be it's worst score, alot of people will be let down and that is just the way it is. You have to remeber it's all about deadlines these days and whatever they can cut out......as one guy said to me.....Thats just the way it is.

I'm on board with most of the changes so far, I don't really like limiting weapon types to certain classes, but that's a pretty small thing in the overall picture. Definitely excited about the game, but I am of course reserving judgement until I have spent enough time to get through it several times with multiple characters.

-glad the Warden is gone, bring on new adventures
-glad the voiceless protagonist and multiple origins are gone, bring on the tighter more focused narrative
-glad the line list dialogue is gone, I prefer the wheel and the tone icons should help decipher paraphrasing
-glad combat has been adjusted to faster paced and more responsive

I am so...so beyond excited for Dragon Age 2! I am most impressed and psyched for the changes! It will add a goodly amount of variety to the already awesome series! I am especially looking forward to the fully voiced protagonist and the more realistic approach to relantionships. I am poised and ready to play Dragon Age 2 until many a blood vessels burst in my eyes!

I'm not sure I'm jaded, but I do have some concerns, watching this demo for instance seems to be one battle on top of another making this an action rpg with the emphasis on action rather than rpg, I hope that was just for demo purposes and not the theme of the full game, I'm also a little dissapointed I cannot choose race as I've always preferred the elven race, I'm already human give me something different.

With those little complaints out of the way, I think Dragon age 2 is going to be good but not epic.

Take me with you, I don't get the greatness of The Witcher or why in the seven hells Skyrim could possibly be 'better' then any BioWare game.

I enjoy Bethesda games, they do things differently for the gamer who enjoys an open world, however their stories can never rival BW's, in my opinion. Though Morrowind came very, very, very close.

There is much, much more to games then the story. Hell BioWare's biggest problem is the only thing they actually do great is the story, everything else usually hovers around mediocrity with the occasional jump to good.

Just because my fiance dissapoints me on occasion does not mean I don't still love her. I have that sort of bond with Dragon Age. There are things that dissapoint me about my fiance that I have tried to get her to work on, and I will do the same with Bioware. Life goes on, and eventually I will have to live with some dissapointment. I will, but I can still wish for 100% happiness.

Exactly, I have the same preference in film as games, if your using your budget for anything but story then you can more or less count me out... exceptions obviously exist but don't let DICE know that.

Why would you hold the same standards and expectations for an interactive medium that you'd for a visual one? Both try to accomplish entirely different things through completely different means, why would you have them share the same preference?

I'm looking for to Witcher 2, my only worry is that it will go the same way as Stalker, clearsky was very enjoyable, call of pypriate on the other hand seemed to lack something, oh that's right, the game world was empty!, my one hope is that Witcher 2 builds on The Witcher and not just use it's reputation to sell.

Skyrim is a Fallout 4 tech demo to me. I prefer the Fallout and Dragon Age settings to those of the Elder Scrolls or the Witcher. That's why I'm still looking forward to DA2, even though the graphics seem underwhelming and I'm not happy with all design decisions. ME3 will probably have the best of both worlds and is going to be my personal GOTY.

Bethesda has got their work cut out for them developing Fallout 4 after what Obsidian did to Fallout New Vegas, I played and modded Fallout 3 to death, but I barely managed a second play through in new vegas.

I'm excited about Dragon age 2, but I also have 2 concerns;

DLC -

When I bought DA:Origins, I thought I bought the full game, but then all this DLC started appearing and I realized the original game wasn't the full game. I prefer by far Blizzard's style of developing games, they release a game and a number of expansions, but each is fleshed out with plenty of features that make expansions valuable. I don't like getting additional content in scraps and shreds. It feels too much like it's not part of the game.

DA2 has it even worse; the game isn't even released yet and i can't keep track of all the exclusive content; there's the signature edition special items, the pre-order, the special location bonus, the newly bought bonus, the cross-advertising armor bonus and there will probably be more. What exactly am I getting with the game, and am I even buying a full game any-more? I'm jadded because of all this segmentation of the game content, so I'm going to wait for the full game release that will come in a single package in a year or two.

My second concern is replayability-

This concern is composed of many smaller concerns. I'm extrapoling from the experience I had in Mass Effect 2. Like in ME2, DA2 only has one hero with sub-class, he is now voice-acted and the gameplay is now more action oriented. There's a few other things. It's minor concerns that by their own don't hold much threat, but put together, they might grow into an issue. The problem I had with ME2 is that I couldn't find the fun to replay the campaign. I played the game once, and then I just didn't have fun going through it again. I didn't have that problem with DA:O though. I played through about 6 characters in origins, and every time I felt like it was varied enough to keep me interested. I'm worried that DA2 won't have that same allure though.

That's it, that's why I'm a jadded fan.

Jokes aside I liked Oblivion a lot, but Morrowind... amazing.

As an avid STALKER player myself, I know exactly what you mean but I'm not worried at all. CD Projekt RED has taken their sweet time with The Witcher 2 and its new engine. I have seen nothing but great things so far. Most excited about the hand to hand combat.

DA2 related, all the concerns about class restriced weapons and such will quickly be remedied by mods I hope.

The problem I had with ME2 is that I couldn't find the fun to replay the

Same here, but I had  two playthroughs: 1 Paragon Shep and 1 Renegade Shep. It didn't feel like I was playing "my own chracter" and I got bored with it.

I'm on a fifth playthrough with DAO but I admit that it would not be so without mods keeping the game alive. Which is why I hope DA2 gets an updated toolset.

I love how all of these topics(and there have been dozens exactly like this) begin with the assumption that everyone loves everything Bioware has done. I haven't. I thought ME2 was shallow and not as enjoyable as ME1 so forgive me if I'm a little apprehensive.

I'm slightly confused by these STALKER comments. Clear Sky is usually regarded as the black sheep of the series because it over populated the game world and turned more into a run & gun, heavy focus on big shoot outs rather then the desolate, scarcely populated zone where creatures and gun fire could turn up unexpectedly and allowed for the use of more subtle, stealthy tactics.

I played Oblivion and I will probably play Skyrim but I personally did not find Oblivion as amazing as some people did. I don't think the mere fact that Skyrim exists means it is going to be great and if it does then I think that is being overly obsessed with a game's title alone or reputation I guess, but I personally like to give every new game a chance and judge it without so much fanism.

I am a very laid back person and roll with the punches so when changes are made to a game: unless they completely destroy my impression of games in general: like suddenly a My Little Pony appeared randomly in DA2, and even that wouldn't be so bad now that I think about it.

Action RPGs are more "popular" these days from what I have seen in game stores and what sells. No offense to the tactical and strategy loving people but I personally find that style somewhat boring and more for a less mainstream group. Of course games shouldn't just cater to mainstream but if you want to sell well than you can't just throw out whatever your strictest fans want.

So chill everyone and just try giving DA2 a chance: you might actually like it against all your wishes not to. One thing is for sure: until we play the game we can all imagine the worst situations and how horrible everything will be, but that is not going to do us any good or going to answer anything. Stop taking games so seriously, enjoy life, enjoy games and just have fun in general. Seriously.

I don't think anyone here specifically referred to the altered gameplay in Clear Sky. The comments were more toward the overall direction of the STALKER series.
