I rather suck at third person shooters so I can get myself into some tight spots and I need a "last resort" ability. In my first play through I was an Infiltrator which has tactical cloak for those "oh shi-" moments. But for my second play through I've decided to be an Adept. So which ability would you recommend as my last resort ability? Barrier and Fortification seem to be the most likely candidates, but Reave sounds like it could be useful as well.

I've "unlocked" everyone but Legion's abilities and Stasis (which I think you get from Liara?)

Heavy barrier is good, there are a few good adept videos that utilize it.

Heavy Barrier.

My favorite "last resort" is the Sentinel's Tech Armor.

I'd just get Stasis. It's way too cheap for me, since I really don't have any trouble with insanity on a normal adept, but it's a really good ability. It completely takes an enemy out of the fight for awhile.

Stasis for me(even at level 1 it's extremely useful against most enemies).

1.) Singularity - No need for a bonus power you just have it and it holds almost anything.

2.) Stasis - Very useful even with just 1 point in it.

3.) Barrier - I guess, never used it myself. Can be cast instantly.

Lol. <"Insert Mr Freeze quote here"> ^_^

Also, barrier (1pt or heavy) if you panic and lose control at those moments; stasis (1pt is enough)  if you are able to stay level headed - stasis mistake is more costly than barrier mistake.

Stasis. Sure made Horizon a lot easier for me.

Have to agree on Stasis, it feels cheap and dirty but it's very effective for getting away from that YMIR mech or collector assassin or shotgun merc or Fenris Mech that just flanked you.

Unity - with the upgrades it heals you, and restores your shields for 1 medigel and a reasonably short cooldown. It even picks up one teammate for no extra cost! I completed insanity as an adept and didn't need to waste my bonus power on barrier or use the obscenely overpowered stasis.

I don't get it how is Stasis overpowered? You realize you don't have to abuse the damage bug and other than that it just holds one enemy that can not even be damaged until it drops to the ground. It even has diminishing returns other than Drone or Singularity.

I would definitely suggest that you don't abuse the damage bug. You could still argue that Stasis is overpowered though. I don't really care. People are asking for the best last resort ability, and I think Stasis is it.

Stasis is better used tactically as opposed to "oh shi-" button. For that, Heavy Barrier is the best. You can activate it while staggered and it has no animation.

Medigel (Unity) with both upgrades works well too most of the time.

But instead of relying on such a crutch, learn to play the Adept properly. It's not that hard. Singularity will lock down enemies, removing defenses + pull field works even better. The main problem adept has is with bosses such as YMIRs and Praetorians. For these there's only one real rule - stay mobile, don't get pinned down.

Oh I'm sure I would do fine without it as I have in my other playthroughs.

Let's not turn this into an argument about who's skilled and who isn't. I think it's a fact that adepts are on the weak side before they finish Horizon due to the lack of biotic upgrades. Some people will do fine anyway, and some won't,

If you're having trouble, I think Stasis is a very solid choice. I think it's a solid choice even if not. It's fun to use I think. Barrier is also an option I guess, but I don't like the insane cooldown.

Both work, i've used stasis and barrier, run through horizon with each at some point, barrier saved me just as much as stasis, you just end up adjusting your play to suit what powers you have at that point,

for example, i could run from cover to cover more confidently when I knew i had barrier ready to go if i got in trouble

I could also get in the face of a scion if i knew i could keep dropping it with stasis.
