Another reason Shiala will never be a squadmate is that she has a generic face. Squadmates all have individually rendered faces, while minor NPC's have faces that are generated through what I guess is a process similar to how we make Shepards. Compare Shiala to Samara or Gianna Parasini to Miranda for a good illustration of what I mean.

It's sort of how we have default Shepard's face, or Sheploo as he is called, but we can't modify it with the devices at our disposal because it wasn't created with them.

Why does that matter?  Isabella used to have a generic face, but they changed it in dragon age 2.

A fair point.  I still see it as a barrier to her status as a squadmate though.  I do not imagine it carries as much weight as her default status being decidedly dead, though.

I'm more interested in seeing what they do with Kaidan and Ashley, to tell you the truth.  Liara got a makeover in Lair of the Shadow Broker.  But aside from Kaidan switching armor, those two were left much as they were in ME1, low-res and everything.  Perhaps this belongs in a different thread, though.

Well LotSB Had Liara as a squadmate and had a pretty big role. Kai and Ash...Well, they have three scenes in the whole game. I don't think it would have been worth giving them make-overs just for that. I'm sure if LotSB didn't exist, Liara would have gotten the same treatment.

I guess it'll all depend of everyone's role in ME3. Who knows, they might give Shiala a bit of a change too, you never know.

Her possible death is the most senseless and meaningless death in ME1 anyway, just retcon it.

I agree. There was pretty much no reason to kill her whatsoever, beyond "MOAR RENEGADE POINTS!" And this coming from a Renegade/Renegon Shep player.

Agreed, stupid death, but seriously, squadmate status? See avatar.

I'd settle for romancable. That said, Liara's busy being the SB and Samara keeps dropping hints about wanting to get on with her life (teaching mercy and compassion on Omega or Tu'chanka by killing everyone who isn't merciful or compassionate), so we need someone to represent the Asari commando sisterhood.

Plus, not only can she feed your fish but she's the obvious choice for tending that garden Shepard always wanted in her cabin. Say, an herb garden

Okay, hate to sound a bit trolltastic here, but what the hell is it about Shiala that you guys have such a boner for?  Is it just because she's an asari who touched your cheek and got all flirty and stuff?  Seriously, she came across as a plot device with no personality, IMO.  What's the appeal?

Sorry again.  I'll learn to use nice words someday.  Promise. ^_^;

What, you don't think that the idea of Shiala turning into a monster and eating you is hot?

So that's it?  She's half-plant and has boobies?

I'd drop into the Shiala thread, but that's pretty much just I LOVE SHIALA with little explanation.

Nah, you don't need to visit any more threads, I think you hit the nail on the head.

It never seem particularly likely that she would be a squadmate in the first place so I don’t know why this is surprising.

That's silly... this means paragon players are still forced to have commited a pretty bad action in their storyline. Even as a Renegade player; killing off people is among the most radical stuff (hitting/threatening being most of what I've seen as renegade) that you can do.

I doubt it's that the “canon choice” is to kill her or anything like that, she just doesn’t exist. She was a minor character and killing or sparing her is not major decision so it was left out, that’s all. it would very confusing if she had appeared in the 2nd game for the ps3 users when she wasn’t in the comic. In fact was the Thorian even in the comic?

Shiala was said to look better than Liara in the first game.  I agree, but others may not.

I wouldn't say people have "a boner" for her as you so eloquently put it.  And some aren't asking for her to be a squadmate or LI because of what happened in ME2.  In ME people, or at least I, saw someone who had such a pivotal role in ME.  Without her Shepard would never have received the cipher and Liara wouldn't have been able to point to Ilos after the melding process.  Very few npcs have that kind of importance on the story and she's one of them.  She's also quite developed considering how short her screen time is.

We want to see an expansion on her character because of the above and we think we'll get that depth of character from having her as a squadmate.  Having her as a love interest/friendship will also help and round out her character.

It was impossible for Shiala to be a squadmate from the moment you were able to kill her.

Why does that matter?  You could kill Anders in DA:A, but he's still in DA2

Anders was also a more important character to my knowledge (never played Awakenings) than a random green asari with only a paragraph or two of dialog.

But it all depends on where the writers want to take the story.

I agree. To be more serious [than my last post], there are several interesting things about her. She was both indoctrinated and then fed to a plant, inside which she spent who knows how long in a state of total sensory deprivation (except for pain). As someone put it, she had her free will crushed to smithereens twice. She ought to be a trainwreck, but she isn't. After all that, if you decide you can't trust her, she's willing to calmly kneel down and let you put a round in the back of her head. She seems to regard it as the only way she can atone for what was done to the colonists, even though it wasn't her fault.

Lord Zeuss has written a fic that goes deeper into all that.

Also, since she's the only person to have been indoctrinated and regained her normal self, Cerberus could kidnap her for use in experiments, especially if you blew up the Collector base. ME: Retribution indicates that TIM is interested in figuring out how indoctrination works and how to cause/resist/reverse it.

So I'd say there's plenty to work with there, at least as much as a DLC character like Zaeed or Kasumi.
