Hi everyone, ok i know im a few years behind everyone but ive just discovered Dragon Age, ive had a little modding experience with Oblivion, but this new toolset is beyond me already.

What im trying to do it edit an item that already in the game (ie: Increase Morrigans Stats on her robe)

so what ive done in the toolset is go to File, Manage Module, Single Player, then i go to Palette Window, select the sword icon (items) scroll down to _Global, Clothing, Mage Robes, Unique, and go to Morrgans Robe,

at this point its uneditable so i check it (with a green tick so i can edit) then i edit the stats (item properties), save, then uncheck it

then i play the game but the stats have not changed, any idea? (when i reload the toolset her robe has the edited stats, so it seems to be saving properly) the robe file name im editing is "gen_im_cth_mag_mor(Morrigan's Robe)"

You would need to either load a save from before you "recruit" Morrigan, or destroy her existing version and use the developer console to give you a new copy of it. If an item is already in your inventory or equipped, it won't pick up any changes made to it.

Not to mention that just editing it in the toolset doesn't affect the game, only the database. You need to export it for it to have any in-game effect.

Ladydesire, thanks for the help, ive been reading a few topics and i find it strange that the toolkit is set up that if you already own or have something changes cannot be made.

DarthParametric, again thanks, so used to the TES construction set, so i go to Tools, Export, Export with dependant resources(?) it creats a very small file called gen_im_cth_mag_mor.UTI it already places it in the modules/single player/overide/toolsexport folder where i assume thats where its supposed to go, no moving needed?

That's how saves work in DAO; the item stats are written into the save, so to change them requires some extra steps. It was the same in some previous Bioware games as well.

The UTI is the actual game-useable item definition file.

A couple of things:

Generally you don't want to be working in the single player module, but instead working in a new module that extends the single player (if you need to edit SP resources). See the toolset wiki for information on how to set one up.

You also generally don't want to choose "with dependent resources" but rather "without dependant resources". I'm actually not sure of any circumstance where you do choose "with".

If you are not making an Addin (i.e. a new module) then you'll generally want to put your exported files in My Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override\.

Hey thanks to all your help, the both of you :) i have sucsessfuly edited the items i desired, upped Morrigans Robe stats, (of course i had to restart the game but i was only up to Ostegar) Seeing as i restarted i edited the Family Sword and Sheild of Highever so the material they are made out of is Silverite, edited the armory stand in the treasurey room to include a full set of Scale Armor not just the chest piece, also gave Leliana a 2nd Enchated Dagger for immediate dual weilding (also looks good when you first see her to be packing dual blades :P)

Im going to continue playing with the toolset, ill shout out if i start getting a headache, would appreciate your help if needed :)

Just because "everyone else" does it doesn't mean it's the right way to do it; putting anything in that override folder should discouraged, since it can interfere with stand-alone modules.

Your right, i didnt make a new module and therefore have been editing the original core files, i suppose if im the only one using it, it doesnt really matter although ive lost the original values of the items ive changed, but it does raise 2 questions.

1) The changes ive made in the toolset and exoprting and placing the UTI files in my override folder, if i deleted those UTI files would the items and changes revert back to how they origanaly were? (of course ill playtest this myself, but if anyones reading this it may clear things up a bit)

2) Is it possible to share these UTI files ive made with other people? If they placed them in their override folder they would see the new item values and changes in game? (assuming of course that they dont already possess the items)

The nice thing about using a database for the toolset is that you haven't lost the original version; the database tracks changes made to anything stored in it and you can revert the changes at any time.

To answer your questions:

1) Yes and no; as I stated above, the item stats will be recorded in the save game so that even if you delete the modified version from the override, the item will display those stats in game.

2) Yes. If you do, I suggest having the end user use the same override folder that the toolset would export them to, instead of using the packages/core/override.
