Whether or not Anders died in your play through won't make any difference. I'm pretty sure no save file was generated at the end of Awakening, meaning your epilogue or choices regarding Anders are irrelevant.

When i imported my awakening file into golems of amgarak i had the same gear as I did at the end of awakening, so idk about that.

Actually the choices are saved before the last battle. You can for example see in your codex that Anders is dead (if he dies) before you kill the broodmother, so I assume they just use the auto-save or your last save of the game.

Huh. I never noticed that.  I always leave Velanna behind at the Keep anyway and assume she'll "disappear."

*Sigh*

I am indifferent. Anders never interested me much in Awakening, but I wasn't super-fond of any of the Awakening characters. I suspect Varric will be my favorite NPC companion, but we'll see.

I wish people would stop slapping the word 'retcon' on everything. Seriously, in every thread I go - probably the most overused word on these forums.

It is a retcon. It's silly to say it's not. It's sillier to assume that one is using it as an insult, and the mere use of it is somehow a terrible thing.

I mostly agree with you, but I think we should acknowledge the possibility at least (if not probability) that they had this on their mind the whole time.  I guess from the perspective of the player it could still be retcon, not sure whose experience you prioritize here, but it's worth keeping an open mind about.

It won't be a retcon. In DA2 Anders is possessed by a spirit. If you killed him, he's in the same boat as Wynne, if not, then it's just a normal possession. Crisis averted!

It doesn't even matter if it IS a retcon.  Oghren can die in Origins and then hey, look at that! He's in Awakening with no extra explanation.  They'll do whatever they want, regardless of epilogues.

How does Oghren die in Origins? I was under the impression he was the only companion you couldn't kill, since he has no betrayal point and can't be avoided.

Someone on these forums said he died in their playthrough.  Never happened to me though.  Maybe they were lying. :bandit:

He can be killed, but I think you have to cheat his approval down (through Feast Day gifts or the console). Then he confronts the Warden.

Apparently, when he pops up in Awakening, he just says that he was found a few weeks later in a bush.

If you get his approval to -100 he will try to leave. You can kill him then.

I am vindicated!  Also that video is hilarious, with Leliana just calmly standing there while the other two go to town on each other.

At long last! THIS was the companion news for DA2 I've been waiting for! When I played Awakening I was SO UPSET when I discovered that Anders couldn't be romanceable. I remember thinking, "In that case he better #%$@ be in the sequel so I CAN romance him!"

I am SOOOOOOOO ECSTATIC! He and I and our "little one", Ser Pounce-A-Lot, will be one big happy family!

(And if he happens to end up being a M/M LI option too - not that I'm actually expecting it, but if he does - I think I'll faint with joy!!!!!!!!)

rofl! I went to the grocery store with my mother directly afterwards and she had to endure the entire car ride there and back with me ranting about possible changes and worst-case-scenarios.

My husband endured roughly the same diatribe, I can assure you. ^_^

My husband was a little behind the times. "Oh, I thought you liked Alistair?"

Wake up and smell the coffee, hubby! This girl has MOVED ON :).

I know, right? I tried explaining that Alistair was for my Warden and Anders was for my Hawke, to which I received only an eyeroll. ^_^

. . . I'm not really sure what I should have received instead of an eyeroll, exactly.

My boyfriend is pretty excited about Anders himself, since he was his favorite Awakening companion. He is less thrilled with Glowy-Eyed Anders as our PC wallpaper. Image IPB

Gaider said they had no problem retconning character deaths if they wanted to bring a character back, so now it seems clear he was referring to Anders. I really doubt they would have different dialogue for "Anders that you let live in Awakening" and "Anders that died in Awakening".

They're just going to say "Nope, Anders lived through Awakening and was a Grey Warden, no matter what happened in your game".

You are incorrect, but you'll have to wait and see what the details are.

I'm still pretty sure he is a Force Unleashed style clone.

so apparantly this is the "official" Anders appreciation thread.

Think it could be labled as such now that Chris / Seb is locking all others? :P

I'm expecting the berserk Justice/Anders scene to be one of the most epic in the game.

I have a feeling that may not happen.
