Suddenly Choppy Graphics

I have no idea why, but when I booted up Neverwinter Nights 2 today, I discovered the certain animations are extremely choppy. Namely, it was the animation of characters (PC and NPCs) walking and the animation of the world moving around you as you walk. All other animations are fine and smooth, such as the spinning circle under your currently selected character and moving the cursor around.

I've turned down the texture quality to 'low' and unchecked all the checks on the right side of the graphics tab, and the problem persists.

As I said, this happened suddenly. Before today, the animation was smooth, just as I'm sure it was made to be. The only thing that has changed is that I have been playing around with the toolset, and I made a very small test module. Everything else has been constant.

What do you think it could be?

I'm thinking an automatic update that also served to reset or revert some of your system's settings?

Or an automated graphics update that doesn't "like" your old busted down NWN2. In it's eyes, anyway.

Thanks for the reply! I'll play around with it a bit more, but I didn't update my game or my OS in the intervening time. Do you think it's the game's problem or my PC's problem?

Something changed on your PC.

I did say, "automatic" update, didn't I? I can almost guaranty you that it's either that or your card decided to head south for warmer climates.

The game doesn't suddenly change for No Reason and as the game isn't getting updates, then it has to be your platform in some form or another. There's no other place to look.

Automatic update of the game? It's not still being patched is it? :s

And the game did the same for me, without me changing anything. At first it would go away if I restarted my computer. after a while i turned just the shadows down and it has ran smoothly ever since.

The only thing I can think of if you 100% havn't changed anythign is this is caued by overheating but I don't know if that is even possible. or maybe have you minimized the game and then re-opened it alot?

This is the General Subjects Discussions area; there is a separate Tech Forum, and the OP has chosen thus far to ignore the usual problem reporting procedures (problem details, hardware description, software environment, etc.)

Doesn't really matter, Gorath. The salient point is that something on the system changed and it was NOT the game. Regardless of specs and hardware, something is rotten in Denmark and it's up to the OP to figure that out, as the OP is the king of that Denmark.

And yes, only about 89% of all who post a technical problem forget specs, hardware, what changes were made to the system, file a proper report or even post it in the Tech Support Forums, so why pick on this one guy?

By not posting the specs he won't receive as relevant, specific and useful help. That is punishment enough.

Client Extension, by Skywing - try it, you might like it.

One of the things it addresses is a fundamental timer (of some sort) that grows increasingly clunky the longer the computer is left on. but if you've got it running smoothly again .. disregard .. tho i hear its great for MP, in other aspects

edit, meant for the OP, blazin

it could be a part of the pc that is getting old and will sooon break. Or a software that is running beside NWN2 and takes its share or power from the CPU. It could be many thing. One thing is sure, NWN2 isn't changing.
