I'm certainly more impressed with these recent gameplay vids and screenshots. Spell effects look pretty cool.
It's weird, the more I see the more it resembles DA:O.
And for good reasons. Or are you one of those people that's in denial about just how bad the PR had been up until now? Stuff like "Think like a general, fight like a SPARTANNNN!!!" and "press a button and AWESUMMM happends" and the lackluster combat walkthrough didn't exactly make me feel wet between the legs.
The recent video's/screenshots have me feeling a lot more reasured though.
Bleh, whatever. It really doesn't matter anymore though.

I'm pretty sure it's Fenris. The projectile perfectly coincides with him swinging his weapon at nothing.Filament wrote...

Looks like Fenris is shooting some sort of energy projectile. Maybe it has to do with his special talent tree.
Watch Bethany there, pretty sure it's coming from her.

But it perfectly coincides with her staff movement too, and Fenris in that space of time is either using Rally, autoattack, or Bolster, none of which really sound like something which would launch an energy projectile.

To be honest, game PR has always tended towards cringeworthy. To be honest, most publicity material in general does, so that's hardly a shock.
On topic however, I think this is looking like it is going to be great, I am definitely liking what I am seeing! I especially like the improvements when it comes to character appearances, and combat looks a lot more interesting.
I am also insanely happy that the *pew pew pew lazor* melee attack with the mage staff is gone. Release day certainly can't be here fast enough in my opinion.

I guess you have a point there. *remembers the marilyn manson music in Origin trailers*
Anyway I'm happy. The new footage/info made me go from "I'm going to cancel my preorder and maybe buy it in the furute because nothing I"ve seen so far made me feel terribly excited... and I really just don't know enough about the game yet" to "Oh, this actually looks pretty awesome now".

It's not gone, it's just that it's not used once enemies come close, since doing that when you have someone in your face is dumb.Zombievarning wrote...

Is DX11 on in that video? If not, I'll be very happy.
Most of the video is shot on DirectX 9, but some more recently capture footage from the outdoor area show off some of the DirectX 11 features (see 0:50 to 0:54 and 1:15 to 1:25, look for cloud shadows on the terrain, and extra lighting from the mage's staff attacks and on the fireballs dropping from the sky).
We will be discussing some of the technical improvements Dragon Age II is bringing soon, including DirectX 11 specific improvements.

The ranged attack is much more active and visceral than the pew-pew of Origins as well.
